Originally from California, I spent much of my academic career there, earning my B.A. in Psychology at San Francisco State University and starting graduate studies in Psychology (Behavioral Neuroscience focus) at Sacramento State University. Since moving to Fort Collins, Colorado in 2011, I have obtained an M.S. at Colorado State University with the focus of my studies and research being Cognitive Psychology. I have taught small labs and lecture courses at CSU for the past four years as a grad student, where the main skill objectives for the classes were: writing APA style, psychology concepts, designing and conducting research, and analyzing research using statistics. I have also had opportunities to teach high school students during a few different summer programs, teaching such topics as Sleep and Dreaming, and The Brain. I enjoy mentoring students as well and have had many discussions with undergraduate research assistants about preparing and applying for grad school, GREs, writing personal statements, etc. Outside of academia, I love to get outdoors, either hiking and climbing in the summer, or snowboarding in the winter.Thank you! I look forward to meeting and getting to know you and helping you through your studies to get you to your academic goals!

As an enthusiastic lifelong learner with a B.S. in Biology from Colorado State University, I have over 2 years of teaching experience in both classroom and tutoring settings. My passion and highest qualification lies in Biology, but I also enjoy tutoring in Discrete Mathematics and English, the latter focusing on reading comprehension and essay writing. I thrive on facilitating those "aha!" moments for students, guiding them toward a deeper understanding of the material. My teaching philosophy, "Stay Curious," reflects my belief in fostering a love for inquiry and exploration in my students. I approach tutoring with empathy, drawing from my own experiences with learning disabilities, to tailor my methods to meet individual needs. I am dedicated to making learning accessible and enjoyable, and I'm flexible with my availability to accommodate diverse schedules. Outside of academics, I am an avid hockey fan and enjoy ice skating and hiking, with a particular fondness for keeping up with research on salamanders and octopuses. For those looking for a Biology tutor in more concentrated courses, I am especially knowledgeable about genetics and animal sciences (general or specific i.e. herpetology, ichthyology, etc. courses).
I have taught physics at the San Francisco Hebrew Academy and my students have matriculated to Berkeley, Carnegie Melon, UCLA, and Stanford among others. I have worked as an aquatic biologist in the Yellowstone National Park, and as an Environmental Health volunteer in Panama.I am multicultural, bilingual, accommodating and kind. Years of teaching experience, miles of travel, and countless volunteer hours are certain to inspire students. I have a gift for kindling intellect, for harnessing the spark of genius and turning it into real achievement.Sometimes it's little things: I have discovered that eating a piece of fruit right before a big test can raise scores upwards of ten percent. That a scholar who learns to view the SAT as if it were a parlor game can overcome anxiety. That mastery of dimensional analysis is worth a full point on an AP exam and spot in an elite university.I live with my wife in Park Slope. My recent wedding was featured in the New York Times.
I served in the Peace Corps in Thailand from 2010-2012 where I was an English teacher who worked with children from 4th-10th grade. Previously, I have tutored students in math and English. I am very versatile in the subjects I teach, and I possess a compassionate understanding of what it takes to be a good teacher. There have been times in my life when I was also the struggling student. Therefore, I understand both sides of the equation, and I strive to reach that wonderful moment where they feel as if they 'get it' and feel good about themselves with confidence in their abilities in a particular subject. To me, that is the greatest reward of teaching.
I'm Sonia and I am a people oriented person, sensitive to their needs and desires. I love helping people accomplish their dreams and goals; being able to help with my grain of sand is fulfilling to me in return. I have a contagious, positive attitude on life in general. I am a multi-tasker who works well under pressure. My hobbies are baking, making homemade pasta, swimming, and enjoying a beautiful sunset and the little things in life that have no price.

Hello! I received a BA in English from San Francisco State University and I have recently relocated to the Austin area to pursue a Master's degree in Ethnomusicology. For the last year, I have been tutoring in the Washington, DC area while doing an internship with Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, the non-profit record label of the Smithsonian Institution. I find tutoring very fulfilling because with one-on-one interaction, students can take major strides towards achieving their academic goals. My main tutoring subjects are English and Writing. Often times, the biggest hurdle people have to overcome with Writing is confidence. I like to create a positive, encouraging environment, which i believe is necessary for learning. I then break composition down into its fundamental components in order to demystify the process. Once a student thoroughly understands the elements of writing, they can deliberately and elegantly construct any academic or personal essay . Outside of writing, my other main interest is music. I have played in a number of rock, jazz and pop groups and am excited to enjoy Austin's vibrant music community. Thank you for reading!

I've struggled throughout my academics and always tried to reach out to my resources and wanted to give back by providing help to others.

Additionally, I have volunteered at the Student Success Center in multiple educational institutions.I was a struggling student at certain points along the way in my academic career, and I valued the people who helped me get through both issues with comprehension and motivation, and fostered the skills within me to get to where I am today! It is my goal to provide those types of opportunities to all students alike, because we all have skills that can be cultivated with the proper tools!

I have been an elementary teacher for 7 years in several grade levels. I enjoy teaching all areas but especially love math and reading. These are passions of mine, and you can often find me reading my own books whenever I have time. I believe that a positive environment is the key to learning. When students are happy, safe, and enjoying their tasks, they acquire new information much more quickly and easily. It is my mission to always create this environment with my students and those I tutor. I have experience tutoring both elementary and middle school students in all subjects and have done this privately for many years. When I am not teaching you can find me reading, hiking, running, or playing with my son.

I strive to get my students to think on a higher cognitive level. My tutoring style is geared towards getting my students to explain what they know and apply what they know through specific questioning. My career objective is to help build a better world through education: bridging cultural and social gaps by constructing channels of clearer communication and empathy. I want to teach motivated university students in a stimulating environment and I want to learn from them about their culture and society. I would like to extend my experience researching, designing and teaching professional and technical writing as well as business communication classes for prospective and current college students and professionals. Although I enjoy the challenges of practical commercial writing, I also have had the pleasure of reading, researching and writing for the academic community. I want to deepen my experience designing and teaching courses that integrate intensive reading and extensive writing in literature as well as other pragmatic disciplines such as technical and business communications. I hope to continue teaching students from different cultures to use the English language to share their values and secure their career objectives. For many years, I taught English composition, research and argument at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro TN just outside of Nashville, TN. I was studying for a Ph.D. in English Literature, but have completed my coursework and I am now seeking a challenging work opportunity. During this period I also assisted the director in selecting and training new instructors, acquiring language centered training technology and software, and the development of new teaching programs and teaching materials. In addition, I have had an abiding interest in international relations and foreign affairs. I have traveled and lived abroad in India, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Europe. While teaching at Boston Latin School in Boston, MA, I attended seminars and lectures at Harvard University on international trade, defense and security, and cultural exchange. At that time I also secured long-term tutoring assignments with visiting scholars from Thailand, Japan (MITI and Foreign Service), and WHO physicians and researchers. Later, I studied cross-cultural philosophy at the University of Hawaii and attended lectures at the East-West Center.

Currently, I am attending SF State University and am attaining my M.Sc. degree in Biochemistry. In addition, I enjoy teaching both biology and chemistry during my spare time-- this is my passion. I teach these subjects to all ages and strive to improve scientific literacy in my own way, that is, being an effective tutor. Moreover, my method of tutoring is particularly effective, because I get to know what type of learner the student is (e.g. visual learner, hands-on learner, etc.) and present the material in this way. This method prepares the student with a basic foundation of knowledge to continue to study independently, that is, without the help of me. Thus, as your potential tutor I will come to know the weaknesseses in your knowledge and improve them in a way best suited to you.

I am a longtime educator who has taught in both public and private school settings in California and Vermont. As a middle grades public school teacher and administrator for 16 years in California, I specialized in English/Language Arts and Social Studies/History but also taught at various times, mathematics, drama, and physical education. Working in a grades 6-12 private school in Vermont for 12 years, I continued to teach middle grades English but also taught grades 9-12. I received my undergraduate education at the University of Maine where I earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. I pursued my teaching certification at San Francisco State University and later earned a Masters in Educational Administration Degree from that same university. As part of a long career in education, I have always taken the time to work with students in need of additional help and support, believing that we all learn in different ways. My main area of expertise has always been reading comprehension, written expression, grammar, spelling, vocabulary development, study skills, research, and homework help. I have worked extensively in that role with English Language Learners, students with IEP's and 504's, and many others seeking to improve their comprehension and communication skills. I have found this type of individual work the most rewarding of my career.
Ever since I could pick up a pen, I have had an insatiable need to write. My passion for writing and communicating culminated with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. I would now like to use my experience and expertise to inspire and improve others.I believe that success starts with inspiration and connection. During my journey as a writer, I've had a handful of teachers and mentors who have challenged and inspired me and left a lasting impact. I would like to be that person for another student. First and foremost, it's important to get to know the student and establish trust so they feel more at ease. In turn, I will feel more confident in what approach to take to help he or she succeed. My passion for the English language, extensive writing experience, compassion, patience and ambition not only make me good at what I do, but give me the confidence and the drive to provide others with these skills and give them the tools to succeed.
I have a master's degree in physics with research emphasis in astrophysics from San Francisco State University. I received my Bachelor of Science in physics and astronomy with a minor in math. Currently I am an adjunct instructor at Mesa Community College teaching astrophysics courses. I have four years of teaching experience in astronomy and physics lab courses at San Francisco State University. I acquired excellent teaching skills while I was a graduate student at San Francisco State University for which I even received an honor of outstanding physics teaching assistant from San Francisco State University. I was also a math instructor for a Summer Bridge program at San Francisco state University where my responsibility was to teach first year college algebra. I have tutored kids in the age group of 8 to 15 in the subject areas of science and math. I tutor math (calculus, differential equations, algebra, geometry and trigonometry) and science courses (physics, astrophysics, planetary science). I enjoy teaching in general and am passionate about math, physics and astronomy. I firmly believe that education is one of the most important tools in shaping a child's life and I would love to be a part of that process. In my past experience I have noticed many students struggle with subjects like math and physics and my goal is to try to make it a fun experience for them. In my spare time I enjoy reading books, biking, hiking , running and snow boarding. During my graduate program I liked volunteering at our college observatory and I still like to take my telescope out occasionally for star gazing.
I am a graduate of San Francisco State University, where I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Radio and Television with a focus in audio production and recording. After working in the radio industry for several years, I went back to school and earned my teaching credential in mathematics. In my six years teaching in San Francisco, I have worked with every age group and just about every setting, from traditional public and private school classrooms, to night school, to summer school and extensive individual tutoring. What I enjoy most about working with students in achieving their goals is not only mastering the mathematical concepts, but watching their levels of confidence grow and attitudes about their abilities change. These kinds of shifts in attitude and confidence are not limited to the way a student looks at math, but extend to every aspect of their life. A student's belief in their own capabilities can change everything. When I am not teaching, I can usually be found with a book, in the presence of music, traveling, or doing all three simultaneously.
I'm passionate about languages and have traveled the world studying them. I've lived and worked in the United States, Mexico, Italy and Portugal. I learned both Portuguese and Italian while living in those countries. Besides the practical experience of living in these countries I also have a strong theoretical background with languages having studied a BA in Philosophy and a MA in Romance Languages. This experience gives me the capacity to understand the language acquisition process and create a personalized program for you that, if followed, will help you become fluent.
My love for working with students began when I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I originally wanted to become a nutritionist, but during my freshman year, I started volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. They had a tutoring program that I joined and worked with elementary students 1:1 and in small groups. It was here that I discovered my passion for working with and teaching students. I graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a degree in Elementary Education. Soon after, I moved to California where I taught kindergarten for two years and 2nd grade for four years. During this time, I also worked with a non-profit called Generations United where I was the after school teacher coordinator and tutored students from kindergarten to fifth grade. I also have a Master's degree in Educational Administration from San Francisco State University. In my 7th year of education, I was an Assistant Principal. In this role, I spent a lot of time subbing in classrooms ranging from pre-school to 8th grade. I'm experienced working with elementary and middle school students. I have taught all subjects at the elementary school level. My passion is for students to realize their potential and believe that they "can do it". Students are capable when they are motivated to learn. I believe in using a lot of visuals to help students learn and modeling so students can understand a concept better.
Adversity and struggle build character. I have become who I am today because of the challenges I have overcome through my childhood and adult life. These challenges helped shape my morals, goals, aspirations and beliefs.A personal turning point was my experience immigrating to America. It changed me as a person. As a sixteen year old teenager with no knowledge of the English language, the unfamiliar environment was both a frightening and motivating experience for me. Without any similarly situated peers or any formal ESL program, I had to learn English on my own both to succeed in school and to overcome the social ostracism that accompanies difference. Today I am more appreciative of the challenges that our multicultural society presents to those on its fringes. I want to ensure that its virtues are shared by all and I look forward to using my heightened cultural awareness in my chosen career as a physician. Having been born in Iran and visiting a variety of countries, I have experienced the fascinating diversity that is our world. Thus, I have learned how important it is to place one's self in the position of others in order to understand their experiences. This awareness has allowed me to relate to a wide variety of people and to serve my prospective patients more empathetically. From an early age, I had a passion for the medical profession, a passion for science and preventative care. This passion led me to explore the field of dentistry. I began by interning as a dental assistant at the office of Dr. Abar. Working alongside Dr. Abar further solidified my passion for dental school and familiarized me with the day-to-day work of a dentist. The internship was a great assurance that dentistry would be a great fit for me. I learned that to succeed and be a great dentist and provide the best care for patients, a dentist must truly and genuinely love his/her profession. The internship further helped expose me to the daily job activities of a dentist thus enabling me to further ensure that this was a suitable career for me. I feel privileged and grateful for having had this experience since it allowed me to find out my true calling in life and confirmed for me that dentistry is the best profession in line with my aspirations and interests.I transferred to SFSU and joined the SFSU pre-dental society. As a member of the pre-dental society, I volunteered as a dental assistant at the Student-Run Free Dental Clinic Project. With the help of volunteer health professionals, the clinics offered services to the underserved and homeless community of San Francisco. Volunteering at the clinics helped me understand clinic operations and raised my awareness of community needs, and the work needed to address those needs. My experiences have made me certain that dentistry is the best choice for me. From moving to a foreign country by myself to my fortunate professional and volunteering work that instilled and reinforced my caring and compassion for others what I learned was that I have what it takes to succeed in being a great dentist. My experiences and exposure to different cultures from around the world have prepared me to be more than just a dentist that treats dental decay, but one that cares for the well-being of everyone regardless of socio-economic or ethnic backgrounds. I strive to give back to those around me and to be a servant of my community. Every door I have opened in my life so far has led me to the conclusion that I want to become a dentist. I feel that a career in dentistry would allow me to combine my interests in healthcare with my passion to be a compassionate caregiver. Now, as I stand poised to open the next door, I am eagerly anticipating what is on the other side. I am certain that I can bring promise and perseverance, a commitment to serving those in need of my care and an unrelenting passion for learning, and that these characteristics will lead me to my goal of being a successful professional, and more importantly, a passionate member of the professional community as well as the society as a whole.
