My students excel in all areas of musicianship, and my specialties lie in teaching music theory, composition, and songwriting. I have been an educator for over 15 years, I am currently on faculty at New York University Steinhardt, I hold a doctorate in music composition from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins, and direct the composition and songwriting program at the Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts.

As a dedicated PhD candidate in geophysical science with a strong foundation in biochemistry, I have cultivated a passion for teaching that has been influenced by my upbringing in a family of educators. With over 2 years of tutoring experience, I specialize in subjects such as biochemistry, chemistry, and geology where I strive to foster a supportive learning environment. My teaching philosophy centers on connecting with students through relatable examples and encouraging critical thinking, ensuring they not only grasp the material but also develop a genuine interest in the sciences. I am a graduate of Gannon University. I received my Master of Education degree with a major in Curriculum and Instruction. I have been a certified teacher for 30 years and there is nothing more rewarding then watching that "A-ha!" moment from my students. These moments happen by building trust, having patience, and even putting in a little sense of humor when needed.I have tutored all elementary subjects, reading, and writing. My favorite subjects to tutor are writing, reading, and math. I have always excelled in these myself and am very comfortable helping others to do well in these areas also.My passion for teaching goes all the way back to my childhood. My parents knew right away that I would be a teacher by the way I interacted with others. When someone needed help, I didn't do it for them, I guided them to explore and experiment on their own to achieve the goal. To this day, I am still helping people/students in the same way. I encourage students to think outside of the box and then take pride of what they have just accomplished. This helps them build the confidence they need to prepare for the next level of learning.My philosophy of education is built upon my love for and experience in teaching. If I were asked to describe myself in as few words as possible, it would be firm, but loving. I believe in creating a safe environment where students have boundaries, yet are free to share, explore, experiment, and ask questions. Each student's experiential background plays a vital role in my teaching. Consistently seeking feedback before, during, and after lessons to check my students' level of understanding gives me the direction needed to continue teaching them successfully. In areas where students may lose focus, I prepare creative techniques or tactics to help make the important aspect of each lesson memorable and enjoyable as possible. Although I have stated what I do as a teacher, my philosophy is deeply embedded within my practices. These examples may sound like theories, but they have been my faithful, tried and true practices that make me a successful teacher.

As an educator with two decades of experience in the classroom, I thoroughly enjoy seeing my students succeed. I have been teaching online courses as an adjunct professor and a graduate assistant since the Fall 2020 semester.I earned an MA in English and a BA in English Adolescence Education from State University of New York at Fredonia, and I am currently in the MFA program for a degree in Creative and Professional Writing at Western Connecticut State University.Since 2002, I have been writing and editing professionally since my first post-college job as a copy desk editor at a daily newspaper before finding my true calling as an educator.I believe that a student-centered approach to teaching serves the student more thoroughly. The teacher is the guide who helps the student navigate the assignments from all angles rather than a lecturer who quizzes on memorized material. Together, the student and the teacher work to reach the common goal of the student's success in the course.

I'm a doctoral student in chemistry. I enjoy science and math, but I understand that these things aren't always interesting or engaging for everyone. My goal is to feed you the fundamentals filtered through applicable examples for your expected career field to make the lessons stick.
