I'm a Computer Science student who's been teaching all my life. From tennis camps for kids to an engineering physics class for college kids, I really enjoy helping someone discover for themselves what they are capable of! Please let me know if there's anything you'd like me to help you with.

As a healthcare professional I inspire values that recognize the inherent dignity of every person. Through personal adversities and my diverse professions, I've learned to exemplify the inherent characteristics I possess to cultivate an inclusive environment in every room I walk into, an environment where differences are recognized and respected by serving as a catalyst, providing support, and ensuring collaboration and accountability.
I am a Counseling Master’s degree candidate at Texas State University and have a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science. I have completed some course work in Public Affairs at the University of Texas. I have tutored students in after school programs and believe that one-on-one tutoring has a great positive effect on a student’s focus and learning abilities. During my education and experience, I have learned that not everyone has the same learning curve and approach. I strive to meet students where they are and work with them to discover the learning method(s) that best suit them. Practice is an essential part of learning, thus I work to keep students engaged in learning activities outside of tutoring as well.In many cases, grades are considered extremely important by the student and the student’s school, thus I always encourage my students to ask me questions until we both are completely satisfied that they know what they are learning. As a counselor in training, I understand that students must feel engaged, motivated, and confident in order to work to their full potential. I utilize my skills to provide a safe, accepting, and positive environment in which they may thrive. I look forward to working collaboratively with all involved individuals to bring about the desired results for students. Thank you for your consideration!
Teaching and Tutoring has always been a passion of mine. I attended Texas State University and graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary curriculum and instruction with a focus in math. I have held many positions in education, some being a Student Teacher, AVID Tutor, Breakthrough 9th grade Engineering teacher (summer program), and more. I enjoy helping students understand concepts and how to apply that knowledge to the real world.
A graduate of Texas State University, I was a music teacher and switched to special education in 2013. As a special education teacher, who believes all students can attain goals, I've worked in elementary STAAR grades (Texas 3rd-6th), and life skills K-8. I have also taught resource math for middle school (6-8). I was also an all inclusive grade level teacher for 5th and 6th grades (ELAR, Math, Science, Social Studies). Math, reading, and writing are my specialties, with math being my favorite subject. I have been a teacher of the year and also an administrator with school improvement. I started tutoring while I was in college and continued throughout my educational career. I retired from teaching at the end of the 2024 school year and now tutor online. I look forward to continuing working with scholars and seeing them succeed.
I graduated from Houston Community College in May 2015 with an Associate in Science, and from Texas State University in May, 2018 from with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. I founded the Chess Club at Texas State University in fall of 2015, and was president of that organization for a year and a half. I contributed in writing the organization's constitution, code of ethics, grant proposals, and executive board member's handbook. I had the pleasure of coordinating a trip to the Southwest Collegiate Championship in spring 2017, where I trained and took two teams of three individuals. Along with this, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Queretaro, Mexico in summer of 2016 for a month. I also mentored for two years through P-16 Initiatives and Personalized Academic and Career Exploration at Texas State University. I have also worked as mathematics instructor at Mathnasium, and as a permanent substitute for a Math vacancy in San Antonio Independent School District from Dec. 4, 2018 to Jan. 18, 2019. Outside from teaching, I enjoy yoga, biking, and spending quality time with my loved ones. I am an enthusiastic well rounded individual who is ready to educate the future in the best way possible.
I am a graduate of Texas A and M International University and Texas State University. I received my bachelors in Political Science with a minor in History from Texas State and a masters in Curriculum and Instruction from TAMIU. Since graduation, I have dedicated my time to being an elementary teacher and paraprofessional. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Science and Social Studies. I am a firm believer in the importance of education and know I have the skillset to help others improve their own education. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, taking walks with my family, and playing board games.
I am a native Japanese speaker, from Tokyo, Japan. I graduated from Komazawa University with a Bachelors of Arts in English Literature in 2015 and received my certification in Japanese Instruction from the Sendagaya Japanese Language Institute in 2017. I am currently in a Graduate Program at Texas State University in Adult Education. Teaching students about my native language and culture is my passion. I have had many students that have successfully passed Japanese proficiency exams, and some that have even moved to Japan. Whatever your goals in the Japanese language you have, I am here to customize your lessons to help you achieve them.
I've travelled the world mentoring students in Japan, forging houses in India, founding soccer programs in Costa Rica, and graduating teen moms in Texas. Education has captured my attention the world over. I'm eager to keep my hand in the field with Varsity Tutors. My other passions find me out on the pitch, drenched at Barton Springs, or languid in a Netflix puppy pile.
I have taught various English courses for 5 years now, starting with a Graduate Teaching Assistant position for Missouri State University. My expertise is rooted in Creative Writing, with an emphasis on Poetry and Nonfiction. For my 3-year MFA program, I filled a similar role, teaching English Composition courses. As a teacher, I like to emphasize creative concepts and free-thinking. As an editor and curator, I work with Infrarrealista Review (currently) and other literary organizations. My freelance experience includes editing, advertising, and copywriting. As a creative writer, I was nominated for a Pushcart Prize twice in 5 years for poetry. For over 10, I have dedicated myself to a career in writing and will continue to do so.
I have been tutoring students in both high school and college in everything ranging from basic algebra to advanced calculus. As a student pursuing a degree in mathematics I am passionate about the study and enjoy sharing my passion and my knowledge with others. I am well equipped to help improve a student's understanding and ability in a variety of fields of math. I have flexible scheduling availability and can work around a variety of schedules.
I am honored to be a part of the Varsity Tutors family! My amazing journey as a lead learner in education began 27 years ago and has encompassed teaching each of the grades kindergarten through the sixth grade both in person and virtually, as well as leading an elementary school as a campus principal. I eagerly look forward to supporting our Varsity Tutors students and their families. When I am not supporting students, I am homeschooling my 14-year-old son, watching him play golf, or spending time with family and friends. I have a weakness for cherry Dr. Pepper and my mom's famous chicken enchiladas, and I am happiest when I am teaching.
I am currently an undergraduate at Texas state university. I am receiving my bachelors in Business with a focus on finance, and a minor in pre-law. I have tutored for 4 years now, I can tutor in a broad range of subjects but specialize in mathematics, and Spanish on all levels due to my fluency and experience. I enjoy tutoring students in a range of subjects and try my best to personalize each lesson in accordance to each students learning style and preferences
My name is Cynthia Isaac and I am a graduate of Texas State University. I received my Bachelor of Science in education with a minor in Early childhood. I currently have 31 years of teaching. I have taught many different grades and I can say the joy of teaching has always been so rewarding regardless of the grade. The best part of teaching is when a teacher has a former student come back after 20 years and they thank you for everything they learned is truly a blessing. My passion is teaching students how to read and develop a joy for reading. Reading is the key to many opportunities. I have been able to help many students that struggled with reading. Preparing students for the New Version of the state test 2027, is essential to promote confidence.
I am currently a graduate student at Texas State University, pursuing a specialist degree in School Psychology. A major deciding factor in my career choice was the field's emphasis on helping all students do their best at school and at home, which directly applies to my approach to tutoring. I love to learn and I love helping others feel successful in their classes. I have been informally tutoring peers and my younger siblings from a young age, and continue to do so today. In high school, I was recognized as a National Merit Finalist by the College Board for my PSAT and SAT scores. I took nine different AP exams (World History, US History, European History, Physics B, English Lit, English Comp, Biology, Psychology, and Statistics) and thus became very familiar with how those tests work, as well as what goes in to preparing for them, emotionally as well as academically. I graduated in June 2012 as the third in my class of over 600 students and continued my education at Texas A&M University as a psychology major with minors in neuroscience and Spanish. I graduated from Texas A&M with a Summa Cum Laude distinction in May 2015 and went straight into my graduate coursework.Given my own testing experiences and the value I place on higher education, I love to help others feel as confident as they can when they walk into that testing room, whether for AP, ACT, SAT, or GRE exams. The process of applying to colleges and graduate programs can be very stressful at times, so if I can help you feel prepared to do your best, I would love to do so! That being said, I enjoy working with all ages and as I am a Liberal Arts person at heart, my favorite academic subjects are psychology, history, and any English class that gives me an excuse to reread a Jane Austen novel. Though I do not promise to know all the answers, I can guarantee that I will do my best to help students know where and how to find them. I believe that tutoring is most effective when a student comes to acknowledge and utilize the strategies that are best suited for their learning style, which they can then take with them into other subjects and in their future academic endeavors.Outside of the academic arena, I love to read, watch movies, spend too much money on craft supplies at Michael's, and volunteer with kids.

I also have experience with teaching English Second Language students as well.My goal is to help you reach your goals and succeed! We are a team though. Effort from the student and tutor are a strong formula to instill growth and success. Hope to be of help to you!
I love working with students, particularly tutoring because it allows me to watch them blossom over time. I am a personable, easy-going tutor who wants students to feel comfortable working with me. I'm starting a PhD program in the fall and looking for a few tutoring opportunities to supplement my fellowship.
I have earned my Bachelor's in Mathematics at the University of North Texas, and a PhD in Mathematics Education at Texas State University. Since graduation, I have been working as a Professor of Instruction at universities. I have taught many years at the university level over all levels of mathematics. Predominantly, this has been with algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus students. My philosophy for teaching is to prepare my students with a foundation in the content of the course as well as how to apply that knowledge in new contexts. I find it key to help students answer the questions they have while also preparing them to answer any other possible questions that could come from a context.
Thank you for considering me as your tutor. I am an educator and former teacher. I have taught reading and math at the elementary level and middle school math. In addition, I have tutored in reading and coached speaking events. Most of my experience in education has been working with struggling learners. My favorite story to tell is about a student I met in middle school who was in a special education math class. She was very unsure of herself but after working with her for two years, she was able to transition into a general education math class with accommodations. She will be starting college this fall. Her story and many like it, are the reasons I strive to work with students.Math is my favorite subject to tutor because of it's progression from concrete to abstract concepts and real world connections. I use Socratic questioning to find points of confusion and assist students in clarifying those areas.I currently hold the following certifications: Special Education (Early Childhood-12th), Generalist (4-8), and Principal Certification and earned both my undergraduate and graduate degrees at Texas State University.
I am a graduate of Texas State University with a BA in English and with a minor in French. I have always been passionate about languages, as well as world history and culture, and would like to help others better understand the past and how to communicate with others from around the world. I recently returned from France as I was an English teaching assistant who helped native French speakers learn and comprehend English, as well as US culture and American history while doing so. I believe that language is one of the most important facets of being human, as with it you are able to express yourself and foster connections with people different from yourself. During my free time, I like to read, study history and culture and I indulge in video games as well.
I am a great tutor because when I am finished tutoring a student, they not only get their work done, they understand the concept they were having trouble with. I tutored at Austin Community College for two years, I taught Secondary Mathematics for three years, and I taught at a career school for over 3 years, where I taught College Algebra, among other general education courses.

I am a Physics PhD student at the University of Houston set to graduate this year. Throughout my academic career, i have helped many other students, formally as part of my Teaching Assistanceship, and informally when helping out friends and classmates with homework. I have found that i enjoy sharing my understanding of math and physics, as well as the joy from solving problems. It is probably for this reason that in my free time I enjoy games and puzzles that challenge my problem solving skills.
My name is Tim Keene. I have been a teacher for 35 years. I have been privately tutoring students for 14 years. I have two Bachelor's degrees from UTSA and a Master's degree from Texas State University. I have worked with students of all ages and abilities. I myself have ADHD and so have intimate knowledge of the challenges faced by students with this condition. My daughter has Expressive Language Disorder. She now holds two Bachelor's degrees and a Master's degree. I have a lifelong commitment to learning and look forward to working with you.
I have a Master of Education in Reading and extensive experience instructing reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary. I truly enjoy reading challenging literature in my spare time. My love of reading allows me to be passionate about teaching students to appreciate books and develop a lifelong love of learning through reading. I also have experience as a Kindergarten and ESL teacher in teaching phonics and early reading skills. I currently teach Family and Consumer Science as well as health and want to propel students to higher knowledge in a wide variety of life skills.
I graduated from Texas State University with dual degrees in Spanish and Biology. In college, I worked as an Instructional Assistant for Spanish I and II at my university, plus as a high school tutor at a local high school. After college, I earned my teaching certificate for K-12 Spanish and 8-12 Life Sciences, completing my student teaching in 8th grade Spanish II. I have worked as a private tutor for over 5 years now and truly enjoy it! I typically tutor in Spanish or Biology but also have experience in Liberal Arts and Social Studies. To engage my students, I find ways to make the material relevant to their own lives, and make the tutoring experience comfortable and enjoyable. I aim to inspire passion and pride in my students so that they are striving to be better on their own, and I serve as the coach to get them there. When not tutoring, I enjoy being outside, playing sports, and traveling.
I am a graduate of Texas State University. I received my Master of Arts in Literature with a focus on philosophy and cinema after completing my thesis on zombies! Since graduation, I have worked in academic publishing at the University of Texas at Austin and as an Adjunct Professor of English at Austin Community College. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and Composition. In my experience helping struggling students, we always seem to have the most fun (with remarkable advancements) when using pop culture as a comparative text for core concepts. Taking student interest into consideration when approaching a subject never fails to spark curiosity and engagement. I am a firm proponent of the idea that learning and laughter go hand in hand, believing fun to be absolutely necessary for long-term memory retention. In my spare time, I enjoy books, movies, television, gaming, yoga, and kitties!
Though originally from South Texas, I recently relocated to Austin to pursue a Ph.D. in English. My areas of specialization are Medieval and Renaissance British literature. Prior to this, I received a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Texas State University-San Marcos and, while pursuing my M.F.A., lived in San Antonio. As I continue my graduate studies and teach colege-level courses, I am excited to share my love of the written word with students who want to grow as writers and readers. While the majority of my tutoring and teaching experience has taken place within a college writing center or classroom setting, I would be well-suited to work with college-bound high school students preparing for AP English exams and college application essays. I also have extensive experience working with students who have developmental and remedial educational needs and, additionally, have experience tutoring students for whom English is a second language. Where literature is concerned, aside from being well-versed in early British literature, I also have abiding interests in African-American literature, Mexican-American literature, Native-American literature, and poetry in particular across time. My undergraduate and master's degrees required me to read far and wide within the American and British literary traditions, however, and I have had great success working with students who struggle with literary analysis.I believe that everyone is capable of critical thought and creative expression regardless of her or his educational background or learning level. Everyone has a voice that deserves to be heard and a story that deserves to be told. As a tutor, my primary goal is to uncover and foster these things in my students because I believe that you cannot use the voice that’s uniquely yours until you first believe that you have one. And while I will put on my teacher hat when the occasion calls for it, I am first and foremost a tireless cheerleader and a relentless believer in my students. I strive to empower my students by cultivating their self-confidence and encouraging them to take intellectual and creative risks, all of which are qualities that extend far beyond the confines of an English class.Because I am a writer—specifically, a poet—many of my interests and hobbies revolve around language and literature. I am an avid reader of everything from Greco-Roman mythology to Contemporary American Poetry to Tolkein’s The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. Other interests include foreign languages in general and the Spanish language in particular, the American Southwest, classical music and music in general (I sing and play the clarinet, oboe, recorder, and ocarina), the visual arts, Star Wars and Star Trek, and the Middle Ages. I love being outdoors and am an avid hiker and backpacker. I also love to travel and have wandered across the United States, Mexico, Peru, India, and England. I hope to return to India one day and dream of going to Thailand and Tibet. My work schedule keeps me fairly busy and my cats Linus and Fergus keep me perpetually on my toes, but in my spare time, I enjoy practicing yoga, discovering the next best place to eat that nobody has ever heard of, combing through the shelves at Halfprice Books, and exploring the city of Austin.

Hello! Hola! I am excited to be here! I love to teach; it is my passion! I believe a child's education is very important. They all have different styles of learning and are unique in order to make them successful. I also believe in one-on-one teaching as a great resource to help a child succeed in the area they are most needed. I am here to be apart of your child's success and will do all in my ability to accomplish their educational goals. Thank you for this opportunity!
I currently am attending the University of Houston in the pursuit of a PhD in Economics. After finishing three years in the program I currently have two more left and really look forward to reaching my goal.As far as tutoring is concerned, I have taught for a number of years and through the process have come to recognize a few key principles to learning.I understand that a lot of students have various difficulties in school, but most of them boil down to a small number of causes which are completely fixable. The two which I try to isolate in my tutoring sessions are the fact that Math and Economics seem COMPLICATED and BORING to students.Math is complex and overwhelms a number of students. Many students get a problem incorrect before they even begin to work towards the answer simply because they freak out after reading it. I remember back before I learned one little precept by which I now live my life, I used to stare at some Math problems and think "How will I ever solve this, it is impossible!" What I didn't realize then, but do now is that Math is EASY if you split it into steps. Just like pro golfers will say "I just take it one hole at a time", Math experts take each problem one step at a time. And, after you put the steps together you will be surprised with how simple the most complex problems can be.Math is also boring, to most. Yet, it can be surprisingly entertaining to some and the difference is driven by one's ability. Getting problems incorrect is certainly no fun, but when you reach the level of solving 90-100% of the problems correctly, it begins to grow into a passion. And, you start making the connections to how Math is actually important in your every day life. I like to emphasize to my students how it feels to work out problems completely correctly and the sense of accomplishment that one gets from a perfect answer.I realize this sounds extremely Utopian , but it is the true story of how I went from an average Math student in high school to scoring perfectly on the Quantitative portion of the GRE. And, my goal as a tutor is to impart some of what I have learned over many years of schooling onto my students in the hope that they will enjoy school as much as I have.Tutoring/Teaching Experience:Tutor- Texas State Student Learning Assistance Center (2008-09)Tutored upwards of 30 students a day in a variety of college coursesTutor- University of Houston Athletics (2010-11)Tutored athletes in 1-on-1 sessions in Math and Economics coursesInstructor- Principles of Macroeconomics at the University of Houston (2011-2012)I currently teach Economics courses at the University of Houston. My classes range from 50-80 students. I have just finished my third term.
I am currently in the final year of my MFA in Creative Writing program. I received a BA in English from Texas Tech in 2020 with minors in Spanish and Ethnic Studies. Writing is my biggest passion, and I have been a writing tutor across all subjects since 2018. I believe that everyone has the ability to grow in their writing and learning, and my favorite thing about tutoring is helping students build self esteem and empower themselves. When I'm not tutoring or in class, I love reading, making art, and hanging out with my cats.
With a bachelor's degree in English and a certification to teach 8-12 ELA, I served as an educator for 5 years. In those last 3 years, I ran the AP English III sections as well as led the English III team at my school. I have a special interest in rhetoric and persuasion, writing, and literature. I have experience teaching grades 8, 10, 11, and AP, and I have tutored at all levels.
I am passionate about helping students because I've been a student my whole life! Even though I'm a professor now, I love to learn. And now that I have experience, I love to help others along the learning journey. I have degrees in English and education from Rice University, UT Austin, Texas State, and Texas A&M. I also studied abroad in England at the University of East Anglia and have traveled to many countries. I tutor English and Spanish (my family is from Mexico City). My favorite thing to tutor is writing, and I have taught writing from the Kindergarten-graduate school (Ph.D.) level (what I currently do). I am here to share tools and tips to help you succeed in your learning journey.
I am a young physics major who will be graduating in the fall with a minor in applied mathematics. I can give support and help with subject matter and with general test taking tips. I scored a 1500 on the SAT and can help provide lifelong habits regarding studying and preforming well on exams.
I am a graduate of Texas State University-San Marcos. I received my bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. As part of my degree program I am certified to work with ESL students. Since graduation, I have been working at a charter school as a 3rd grade teacher. I also tutor some of my former, as well as incoming students. I am passionate about working with kids in a hand-on learning environment. I believe that students better retain information when they can physically work with what they are learning (ex. Games, foldables, ect.). I love working with students on reading and writing. I spend most of my normal teaching day working on those two things. I believe that in order to be successful in all other academic areas you need to have a concrete reading ability. I have a lot of experience working with students on test prep as well. I have many hands-on activities to help with this, so that it is not boring and redundant. I like to think of my teaching style as hands-on and lots of fun! In my spare time, I love being outdoors and watching football. Go Texans!
What better person to tutor you than a professional nerd? I love all geeky academic things from a perfectly edited essay to a finely tuned test prep schedule. I spent my grade school and early college years struggling with undiagnosed ADHD. When I finally started to learn coping mechanisms and study strategies that worked with my brain, my grades went up and I was much happier. I've always had a love of learning and now I want to help you find the best studying strategies to reach your academic goals.
I attended Yale University and the University of Texas at Austin where I majored in English and minored in Philosophy. I recently completed a Masters in Professional Counseling at Texas State University. I first began tutoring while teaching ESL for two years in Taiwan after college. It was a great experience! Alongside teaching classes, I tutored individual students and adults in English language arts, and led SAT prep and humanities study groups at the Princeton Review. I love teaching and tutoring and am passionate about what my father, a former university professor, calls "the world of ideas." In particular, I am interested in literature, poetry, and the mechanics of writing, as well as issues related to psychology, philosophy, economics, and history. My long-term career goals include bringing together my training as a therapist and my background in education by working in higher education counseling settings.
I am passionate about learning and empowering students through helping them reach their educational goals. I graduated at the top of my class with a 4.0 from Texas State University's Honors college in International Relations and Business Administration and currently live in Australia exploring the other side of the world! I am a State-qualified Debate and DECA competitor. I was raised in France and Germany in a very multicultural home and learned English at a British school in France. I use an engaging teaching style and opt towards real world applications for clarifying concepts and helping stymie learning. I incorporate humor and creativity into my classes to help students enjoy learning with me and provide a unique and worthwhile experience.
