As a graduate from UNC Asheville with a BA in literature and a BA in sociology, and as a lover of learning, I am passionate about helping others reach their academic goals. I am also patient and open to creative teaching methods, because utilizing creativity has helped me achieve my own goals. I have worked with high school and middle school students in SAT and ACT prep classes, and am open to tutoring all ages. As an individual on the autism spectrum, I also understand other autistic people well and am detail oriented, thorough, and dedicated to the success of all students including students with exceptionalities. During my undergraduate career my concentration was in creative and analytical writing and as such I am best suited to help with essay structuring and writing, but I am also well suited to assist in test prep and reading due to my education and my passion for these subject areas. I love to read and write, and I look forward to hearing from you and sharing my passion and skill sets.

The ones I am strongest and most passionate about are dance, painting (mostly abstract), writing, and any sort of "making something look prettier than it was before".I am a working artist, represented by ArtLifting and have taught others to learn how to get outside of the box we sometimes can be stuck in that deters us from limitless possibilities in art and life.I have taught dance to as little as 1 student up to a full classroom of dancers, ages 2 and up.I am very sensitive to students' needs and my teaching style is a hybrid style that molds to what works best for my student.I believe everyone is capable of achieving their goals and a lot of how I teach also revolves around working on confidence, resiliency, having a beginner's mind, and having fun.I hope that I will be able to help you achieve your goals and I trust my own teaching skills that you might have some fun along the way!
My objective during our sessions begins with assessing your strengths and weaknesses academically to accommodate to your learning style. We will eventually develop a study habit to set your priority level for success. Also, we can find available resources online or at the library. The more you learn from other available resources, the more you can establish your style to learn and remember the material. Towards the last session, we will set a goal you would like to meet after your success.I am currently a middle school math teacher for Hampton City Schools but love to tutor various subjects. I am in the process of completing my endorsement for Algebra I.Math can be an extremely intimidating topic to learn if abstract ideas seem to accommodate to the math lovers only? I feel differently. Math is for anyone and everyone who wants to be successful and open their minds beyond three dimensions. I turn the abstract to concrete ideas, and work at your pace to learn the math you struggle to do. Let's develop a love for math and understand math in your own way. I look forward to working with you to become successful and appreciate math in a different manner.I patiently and diligently work to plan the lesson according to your needs. I will make sure you understand the math in a concrete manner, yet challenge you to critically think of math in a different tone.I have taken the ASVAB and scored a 70 without studying.I am available after 4 P.M. Monday - Friday during the school year, and am available after 12 P.M. during summer school hours.
Beyond the beauty and usefulness of math itself, mathematical problem solving teaches deduction and logic that are applicable far beyond numbers to every facet of daily life.
Overall, I have ten years of tutoring in a professional capacity, five years of teaching at the college level, and several years of volunteering experience. Through these experiences, I have encountered various types of learning disabilities and language acquisition issues, and I have taken workshops on how to navigate these particular situations. Building student confidence in their ability to learn is an integral part of the tutoring process because student confidence is vital to teaching students healthy study skills and habits that they can take into other areas of their academic life. I really want to work with clients who want to learn how to become more confident and competent in their abilities, regardless of how much red ink they have seen!

I get particularly excited when I can work with students in developing their executive functioning skills such as organization and how to support a limited working memory. I am prepared to tutor any age student.
