I have been a certified teacher for 5 years and employed by Clear Creek Independent School District. I teach high school science and have taught integrated physics and chemistry, physics, pre-ap level physics, and astronomy. I have also taught SAT and PSAT/NMSQT prep classes on campus. While I have taught a variety of different subjects, my strength lies in physics. I believe I'm a great tutor because I am patient and able to explain some of the more difficult concepts in physics in a way students can understand. I feel I can relate to students well and make learning fun and interesting.

I breathe English. I have been writing seriously since middle school, and I've won a number of writing contests over the years. In May 2019 I graduated from the University of North Texas with a BA in English and a concentration in creative writing. I particularly enjoy revising/editing stories and essays but can also help with Literary Analysis, Composition, etc as well as most standardized tests and middle school/high school subjects. I'm friendly and passionate about helping other people in any way I can. I'm pretty funny (I hope) so we should have a great time while we're working. My primary goal is helping my clients develop as students/writers, and I will do my absolute best to make sure they understand anything we go over during sessions. Please don't hesitate to contact me! (P.s. If you find a way to work a Game of Thrones reference into your message, you'll probably make my day.)

I am a graduate from the University of North Texas with a bachelors in Electrical Engineering. I enjoy contributing to other's education because it's honorable and a mutual benefit. I learned in high school that you learn 90% of what you teach and I've stood by that ever since. I first tutored 7th grade math as a senior in High School and I also tutored Physics 2 (Electricity and Magnetism) in College. After graduating, I substituted in two school districts for a semester. Math oriented material has always been my favorite and is what I focus on. When it comes to learning math it's important to remember certain techniques and recognize when to use them. I like for students to tell me what they do understand and then guide them from there. Outside of studying, my top three hobbies are stand-up comedy, playing basketball, and playing chess.

"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime." - Lao Tzu. Many instructors mistakenly approach the task of teaching with the narrow goal of imparting knowledge of a single lesson or unit to their students, forgetting to train such students how to obtain such knowledge independently. They also forget to connect the gained knowledge to other units and disciplines. The more connections a student makes, the more they are able to retain and apply the new material. I strive to approach tutoring sessions from Lao Tzu's perspective and I enjoy the challenge of taking a concept that is confusing to a student and turning into a crystal clear idea. I accomplish this by asking thought provoking questions that walk students through logical processes. They eventually learn to navigate through logical processes with less direction. Additionally, I understand that no two students think alike and once I determine how an individual student processes information, then I can quickly devise a lesson tailored to that particular student.I am very patient and down to earth with students. Having a good relationship with them is essential to building the trust needed for them to be comfortable in taking the risk to solve a problem independently.I have experience teaching Biology, Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus AB at the high school level and I've taught College Algebra. I also tutored math subjects ranging from algebra to calculus and science subjects such as chemistry, physics, and biology at the Math and Science Center for Killeen ISD.Besides being a teaching professional, I also enjoy playing tennis, doing anything outdoors, studying the Bible, and painting.

I received a BA in Spanish from the University of North Texas with a minor in Music and I received a Master's in Spanish from the University of Wyoming in Laramie, where I worked as a Spanish teacher, translator and guest lecturer. During my time in graduate school, I also worked for the University Writing Center as an ESL (English as a Second Language) instructor to international students. When I graduated in 2013, I continued teaching ESL to adult learners at Austin Community College before moving to Dallas this year. While I am most qualified to teach Spanish and English, I have over ten years of experience teaching and tutoring students of all ages in a variety of subjects. While obtaining my BA, I had the opportunity to study in Spain, where I also held regular ESL tutoring sessions for a family and a businessman, and I was able to study ethnomusicology in Ghana, where I volunteered at a local elementary school tutoring students in English. After completing my undergraduate degree, I received my ESL certification from Seattle University and was soon offered a job in Hungary, where I taught ESL to middle school students. After returning to the US, I continued teaching in my hometown of Austin, Texas while also pursuing my other passion, music. I believe students learn best when they are motivated by something that interests them. One of my strategies for kindling interest among students is to encourage students to make connections with their peers and the wider world by employing student-centered learning techniques. In addition to teaching, I am a visual artist and a musician. In my free time, I spend a lot of time outdoors, riding my bike and hiking.

I lived in Japan for a year learning about both the culture and the language. By the end of my time there, I was credited by my sense I for having enough knowledge to work within a Japanese company, but not quite enough yet to be considered fluent. I then returned to my original, attending school at the University of North Texas. From there, I graduated with a minor in Japanese, and furthermore became the first person to receive a Japanese Certificate from my university, which acknowledges that I am proficient enough in Japanese to successfully operate at the business and professional level. Since then, I have continued my own personal study and development of the language, in hope of one day becoming fully fluent. In the 3 years in which I have been learning Japanese, I have found that one extremely effective way to solidly and maintain my language skills is through actually teaching the language myself. Although I have only done this with the English language, I have tutoring experience with people of all ages. Most of my past tutoring experience have been with students/young adults, but I also have experience tutoring those far older than myself. Having actually been taught Japanese by Japanese people, and having actually lived and worked part-time while I was there, I do feel that there is a lot more that I can offer (and arguably in much more effective ways) as a tutor than simply just remembering kanji characters. What does a typical tutoring session with me look like? To start off, I typically would like for us to get to know each other a bit better, so that we can figure out what exactly and in what ways you are wanting to progress in Japanese. This also allows me to understand better which types of teaching methods would work best with you. If you are already learning Japanese through your school, then we will mainly work alongside your already assigned topics, or alongside your issued text book, while also incorporating a little bit of information and tips from my own lesson plans. The important thing to note is that I will be very careful not to overloading you with lots of new things to learn from me, while you are also dealing with new lessons from your school's Japanese class. However, if you are not enrolled in your school's class, then typically each meeting will be comprised of us going through a listening, speaking, reading, and writing section, thereby covering a little bit of each part of the language as a whole. Through each section, I will steadily introduce new vocabulary, phrases, grammar points, kanji characters, and even points of interest about the culture. At the end of each lesson, we will briefly review all new material, and I will typically assign homework that requires you to write or talk about something that incorporates some of the new material we just covered. It should be noted that the amount time we spend on one section for each meeting will highly depend on the number of times we meet up each week. With that, it is also important to note that your progress will depend heavily on the amount of time you spend practicing and learning Japanese. Once you have proven to be proficient in basic communication, we will then work towards speaking English only when necessary, and then even further towards only communicating in Japanese. I have personally been taught Japanese by both U.S. and Japanese schools, and I find this method to be undoubtably the most effective way for students to progress in proficiency. We will cover anything and everything from useful kanji, natural expressions, writing and speaking differences, formalities, cultural influxes, and much more. You can be anywhere from beginner to intermediate, so its okay if you only need to strengthen grammar expressions, or or if you are having trouble simply remembering the differences between hiragana and katana. And if you dont know anything, than thats okay too! Because I guarantee, no matter what your level is, you will always leave our lessons having learned and remembered more than one new thing at a time. So, what about my character/personality? I love to learn and meet new people, as well as help out in any way I possibly can. I strive to always progress, and will expect you to at least be open to influencing you to be the same. I am extremely adaptable and understanding, which generally makes it easy for me to recognize where you are and how you feel in any given situation. Im also patient and extremely open-minded, so I will try my absolute best to help you in the most effective ways possible. If for any reason you are just not retaining information, or things are not working out as plan, I will do my best to be as flexible as I can, and figure out new way/methods that are more effective for you! Nothing is more satisfying to me than being able to help someone in a way that makes him/her a better person, and aim honestly believe I will be doing just that by making you more and more proficient in a language other than English. For this reason, I feel I can be a great tutor for essentially anyone and everyone who is willing to come with an open mind, and lots of determination to tackle one of the most difficult languages to learn in the world. If you're still not sold, I strongly encourage you to please message me with any questions or concerns you may have, so that we can work together towards improving your language skills!

I began teaching/tutoring high school math in 1984. I taught all levels of high school math, from PreAlgebra through AP Calculus, for 11 years. After moving into an instructional leadership position, I have continued to tutor students and sub for classroom teachers. Math is a participation sport. Even though it is considered an academic subject, achieving success in math is more like becoming a good musician, a good athlete, or a good artist. You need to think about it, practice it, and talk about it with others on a regular basis or you probably won't become very good at it. If you study math like you study History, Science, or English, you are likely to have struggles. Students become successful in math the same way they become successful athletes, musicians, and crafters: practicing. When you work with me, you will do most of the talking/working (if I do most the talking/work, you won't understand or remember very much). When you work with me, expect a patient person who has seen every kind of misunderstanding possible in math. I quickly determine what you do/don't understand and coach you to become better at that skill and meet the learning targets you have set for yourself!

Learning occurs when a student is in a safe, comfortable environment where they feel respected and engaged. As a teacher, I pride myself on ensuring that every student in my classroom feels like they have a voice, and that their voice is important. A student should never feel ashamed or afraid to express their opinion. When I teach, I start with a passionate approach to the material. I love Language Arts and strive to garner as much knowledge about the material as I can so that I can present true and credible information to my students. I then determine the most exciting way to convey the material so that each student is engaged. I learn as much as I can about the student's interests, passions, and hobbies, so that I can create analogies to their lives and impart the information in such a way that they can apply it to what they already know and care about. I believe that this method contributes to long term retention. My goal is, not only for my class to do well on standardized exams, but to carry a lifelong passion for learning and for the material that I've presented them. I feel an enormous sense of pride when I know that I've made a difference in a student's life. I want my students to see the importance of education and value in the betterment of themselves and their community.I believe that test scores don't tell the entire story of a student's progress, but an overview of the student as a whole is important to measure learning. How has the student progressed in the classroom? Have they shown a new interest in the subject? Have they volunteered more information about themselves over the course of a semester? Are they willing to participate in class discussion, whereas, before they were quiet? These are all questions I ask myself and measures I use to determine if I am teaching effectively. I believe in always working to become a better teacher and person. Therefore, I am always measuring my progress as well as the student's, and asking myself what I can do to become better at my job. One of the best ways for me to be a better teacher is to learn from my students.I embrace technology in my classroom and want the students to be excited about Language Arts as it applies to the world in which they operate. Social Media, blogging, and the internet in general are important spheres for education, and I like to make a connection to technology and the subject matter in which I'm teaching so that students are excited to see the application.
