I have been a classroom teacher for many years working with grades 6-12 in the areas of Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Additionally, I have worked as a tutor and have found that work to be the most rewarding as it allows me to interact more closely with individual students as we work on skill development and building confidence. Test prep has been a focus of my tutoring, helping students prepare for high school entrance or placement tests, SAT, ACT, and graduate tests. Whether I am tutoring for test prep or for school subjects, my goal is always to inspire, educate, and motivate each student to grow and learn.

I recently graduated from college, with a degree in math. Personally, I love maths, because everything in math is logical, and maths is the most fundamental subject for a lot of things. Here are some of the classes I have taken: Calculus 1, 2, 3, Discrete Mathematics, Linear Algebra, Intro to Data Structures, Projective Geometry, Advanced Calculus, Abstract Algebra, Bayesian Data Analysis, etc. I have tutored colleges students in maths for more than two years now. I managed to explain and clarify math theories, address and keep track of each tutee's weak points and help them finish their class successfully. I also tutored Chinese in college; not only did I help the students understand the language but also the culture.
Anyone, at any age, can learn a new language. There are many ways of learning such as fun activities and games, as well as memorization, and other methods. The key is to find out which methods work best for you.I have been helping others learn a second language for over three decades. Throughout the 1980s, I taught and tutored English to Spanish speaking people in Venezuela. I held private classes in my home, taught in a pre-school, a high school, and in a language institute. After returning to the U.S., I taught Spanish to grades K-8 and tutored high school students, college students, and adult learners.I earned a B.A. in Communications and Writing at Westminster College. In my spare time I like to read, write, and travel. I have won a few awards for my writing. I also am learning to quilt and to do other crafts. I believe it is important for everyone to continue to grow and learn new things throughout life.Learning a foreign language can help you become a well rounded citizen. It can also help you in most careers and makes it more enjoyable to travel to different countries.I can help you learn Spanish and give you these advantages.
I am a native of Canfield, a small town in Northeast Ohio. My passion for music developed at a very young age when my mother, father, grandparents and older cousins listened to it constantly. They each preferred different genres, so I heard a vast repertoire. In middle and high school, I started taking lessons for voice, trombone, guitar and piano. I was in wind ensemble, concert band, advanced choir, concert choir, solo and ensemble, school musicals and cross country. The reason why I was so involved was because the teachers were outstanding. They captured my attention and allowed me to really enjoy what I was doing while learning. I decided that I wanted to be a teacher because of them! When I graduated from high school, I went to Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. It is a small, private college, so I was able to participate in too many activities to list. I received my undergraduate degree in music education, graduating Magna Cum Laude. When I graduated, I decided it was time to move somewhere with a warm winter. I had visited Arizona before and my favorite baseball team, the Cleveland Indians, play Spring Training games in Goodyear. So, I knew it would be a good place to go and have been teaching ever since. I taught in Casa Grande, then the West Valley for several years. Since the 2016-2017 school year, I have been at Paradise Valley schools teaching at Desert Cove Elementary, Shea Middle and Shadow Mountain High. While teaching, I have earned my Master's degree in music education at Arizona State University, specializing in teaching music with incorporation of technology. My credentials for Ableton Live and Pro Tools digital audio workstation softwares are from the Berklee School of Music. I have been both a certified Apple Teacher and Makey Makey Ambassador since 2016. I am also part of the Phoenix Ableton Live Users Group.
I obtained my education from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. My bachelor's degree is in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. I am currently working toward my Master's degree in Special Education with an emphasis in Autism Spectrum Disorders and Behavior Disorders. I am a third year teacher with the Lee's Summit R-7 School District. I have taught First Grade and Second Grade in the district. I have been an after school tutor for the past 3 years, working with students in the grades mentioned previously. I have also worked with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Kansas City as a Summer School teacher and after school group tutor. I tutor all concepts and skills in both math and reading. I also enjoy tutoring organizational, social, and behavior skills. My favorite subject to tutor is reading. I enjoy tutoring reading because my students that struggle in reading believe they will never be successful readers, therefore many do not enjoy school. I like to show these students that with some motivation and extra support they are able to reach their highest reading potential. I love to see the light in their eyes when they realize they are able to open up a new book they never thought they could read. My tutoring style is to create an environment where students feel they are having fun and playing games. I like to create activities that include the students common interests and hobbies. My tutoring style is more laid back and student driven. I feel this way the student is more comfortable and able to focus and be successful during a tutoring session. When I am not tutoring I like to relax and read a good book, take my dogs on a walk, and spend time outside (especially in the Fall). I enjoy spending time with family and friends, watching sporting events, and coaching/playing softball.

I support students through co-taught inclusion classes for Science and Social Studies. My eighth grade students have severe specific learning disabilities in the areas of reading, writing, and math. The students I have worked with throughout my experiences have presented needs such as ADD/ADHD, OCD, anxiety, autism (ranging from mild to severe), Down's syndrome, mild vision and hearing impairments, and giftedness.I love teaching because of the influence, impact, and importance education has on a child's life. To me, serving in a role where I can partner with families and colleagues in order to make something "click" for a child, and to be able to rejoice in those small victories, is what teaching is all about.Outside of school, I enjoy reading, making crafts, and spending time with loved ones. To relax, I like taking strolls around the neighborhood or going to the spa.I look forward to speaking with you and providing any additional information which might be helpful to you. Thank you for your consideration!
I have been studying languages since I was 12 years old. In school I took Spanish, French, Italian and Latin. As part of my Spanish Major, I studied abroad a second time in Costa Rica. Apart from studying abroad for two semesters in college, I traveled through South America on several occasions. Hello,My name is Joe and I am tutor with a true passion for education. I have received my Master's in Teaching from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, UT and I have been working in education the last 10 years. I have taught in multiple countries as well as in multiple languages. This has prepared me to work with individuals of different backgrounds at all different levels. I am a graduate of Ohio University with a MA of Spanish which includes the study of language, linguistics, literature and culture. I am have BA of Spanish and Secondary Education from Westminster College. Since graduation, I have been a teacher of Spanish for 7 years, and in that time I have had a wide range of experiences, both teaching and tutoring Spanish, with students from elementary school to high school to adult students. For all ages, my teaching style is that of immersion. No matter the level of the student, Spanish is spoken 90% of the time. However, I use language that is simple and can easily be understood; so, in other words words that sound similar in Spanish and English and gestures to help the students grasp meaning quickly. I am a bit of a nerd so I also enjoy teaching about the culture and history of the countries that speak Spanish, and when I can, I provide a history of the language itself and how we went from Latin to Spanish. As a tutor, I am a guide rather than a giver of answers. I believe that learning happens when students can come to the correct conclusion on their own. If I instantly give answers, then what does the student learn? I also understand that seeking help is not easy, that is why I try to provide a safe zone for the student where they feel comfortable enough to ask questions and get the help they need.Learning a new language is unlike any other subject and it is a fascinating and life changing process. I love teaching Spanish because I get to see my students??? minds getting bigger and becoming more open. A language is a system of codes and symbols that help us communicate information, and by adding another language you are doubling that system and doubling the amount of information that you can communicate, and I love when students find that they have new ways of expressing themselves; they understand themselves so much more deeply and as a result they are able to understand others. Their view of the world increases because a language is inseparable from the culture and history that created it. When people are able to connect to another culture, the quality of life of everyone improves. That is why I feel learning another language, any language, is so important to our development as individuals and as a society, and why I feel so strongly about teaching it.
