I have been a Early Childhood Education and After school program teacher for six years with University of California, Irvine. I have obtained the After School Program Site Supervisor Permit from California Department of Education. Prior to the career, I had taught a year of Chinese in reading, writing, and speaking in a Sat Chinese School in Irvine. I also tutored pre-schoolers in a non-traditional Chinese program.I graduated from UCI with BA degree in Psychology and Social Behavior and minored in Education. I also obtained the after school program certificate from the UCI Education Department. Recently, I completed the Diversity Development Program Training from Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity; I attended two-day intensive Anti-bias Education workshop with Museum of Tolerance in order to enhance my professional skills and knowledge.

I graduated last spring from Kenyon College with a double major in Spanish Area Studies and International Development Studies. While at Kenyon, I worked as a peer tutor at the College's Writing Center to help students with invention strategies as well as the content and structure of academic and non-academic projects. As a tutor, I particularly enjoy helping students refine their personal voice and better their ability to communicate through the written word. While at Kenyon, I also worked for two years as a Spanish teaching assistant, leading language and culture lessons with beginning-level students three times per week. I spent my junior year abroad in Santiago, Chile at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. As a language-learner and teacher, I'm aware of what areas of the Spanish language are most difficult for English speakers and how to effectively navigate challenging concepts. In addition to leading larger groups of students, I also tutored individuals who were struggling in the classroom. In high school, I was a National Merit Scholar and National AP Scholar, and I am very familiar with test preparation strategies for the Reading and English portions of these exams. My personal teaching philosophy is that every student deserves a study strategy that adapts to their own needs, strengths and abilities. This fall, I'll begin a PhD program in Sociology focusing on Latino immigration to the United States. Next spring, I will teach English in an Argentine university through the Fulbright program. In my free time, I enjoy reading, riding my bike and playing music.
I am a licensed teacher (ESL and Spanish) and have over 15 years of ACT/SAT tutoring experience. Before joining Wyzant, I was an ACT/SAT prep course instructor for The Princeton Review and Kaplan Test Prep, where I helped students develop the skills and strategies needed to succeed in all areas of the exam. My 5-star reviews reflect consistent success in helping students improve their scores and confidence after working with me. My tutoring approach is structured, targeted for all skill levels, and results-driven. I focus on identifying patterns in a student's mistakes, strengthening rhetorical skills, and using time-saving shortcuts on math questions that lead to measurable score improvements. In addition to test prep, I have 10 years of teaching experience and a master's degree, allowing me to explain complex concepts clearly and efficiently. I am professional, punctual, and well-prepared, and I tailor every lesson to each student's goals.
I tutored kids as a part-time job after I finished college. Then I went on to teach middle and high school classes as a Teach for America teacher for a couple of months. After completing two Master degrees in business and bioscience, I worked as a product manager in the medical device industry for the past 10+ years. My kids are now four and six, and I decided to take some time to be a stay-at-home mom to be more involved in their lives. Taking on tutoring jobs during my free time gives me the opportunity to interact and help others, which I really enjoy.
Hi, I have a PhD in organic chemistry as well as a PhD in geology. I have a life-long fascination with the natural world, and I learn new things everyday. I enjoy sharing what I've learned, and hope that it will spark an interest in the amazing world in which we live.
I enjoy helping people learn and am capable of teaching multiple subjects in math and science. I am an Engineering student at UC Irvine, going into my second year. I enjoy talking to new people and helping them with whatever I can.
My interest in teaching started when I was a teenager, when I was inspired by my wonderful high school biology teacher. Particularly, the class projects she used to illustrate concepts were inspiring, and got the entire class excited about the subject. This excitement about science lasted through my years studying undergraduate chemistry and biology, and into a master's degree in biotechnology. Most commonly, a science undergraduate pursues either graduate school, or some type of medical professional coursework, (doctors, nurses, or pharmacists). This was my original plan; to finish my undergraduate degree, and then go on to do a PhD. But after working as a teaching assistant during my master's degree, I realized how much I enjoyed working with my students and encouraging them to pursue and work hard in science.I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Maryland, College Park in biochemistry and cell biology in 2008. Immediately following this I started my Master's degree in Biotechnology at University of California, Irvine. The first year of my Master's mainly involved classroom instruction, as well as lab courses, during which my colleagues and I learned and practiced complex techniques required to conduct research. The second year of graduate school, I was able to pursue my own research and also work as a teaching assistant. I worked in Dr. Dana Aswad's biochemistry lab, analyzing and separating proteins from mouse brains. I also taught a discussion section in the introductory Genetics course. As a TA, my responsibilities were to review material covered in lecture, and hold one office hour every week for my students to come in and ask my assistance in understanding any of the difficult topics being covered in class. Because of how much I enjoyed teaching discussion, I went beyond what was expected of me, and extended my office hours, often conducting exam reviews. Sometimes there were students from other sections who would attend my office hour because of my accessibility as a teacher. This gave me immense satisfaction, and it became clear to me that a career as a high school teacher would be fitting for my personality and interests. As my master's program came to an end, I applied and received admission to a teacher credential program at UCI which I was planning to enter starting in the fall of 2010. It was during this time that I discovered I was pregnant. My husband was also a graduate student. Given this, and because of many other factors from childcare, to the desire to bond with my child I decided I needed to stay at home with my son, and put my career plans on hold.In 2011 spring I started tutoring, as it provided me with flexible hours, and enabled me to nurture my newborn. For 4 years I tutored chemistry, AP chemistry, Biology, Algebra, and some environmental science for high school students. Again I discovered the love I had for sparking scientific interest in a young student, and watching their faces light up as they understood a concept they had seen as difficult. Tutoring students was especially satisfying since I was able to cultivate a one-on-one rapport with the students, enabling me to cater my teaching to their needs. Some students were well prepared and knew exactly what they needed help with, while others needed me to comb through their notes and figure out what to cover during our sessions. Either way, I often succeeded in helping them improve in their grades and confidence in class. Tutoring has also helped me solidify my understanding of scientific concepts and has also enabled me to grasp the order of instruction chemistry, and biology at the high school level.I still plan to pursue a career in full time teaching, and attain my teacher credential. But for now, as I watch my own children grow up, tutoring is a wonderful way for me to do what I love and have the flexibility to be at home with my young children.
My name is Jennifer and I am a tutor with Varsity Tutors. I am passionate about helping students achieve their academic and career goals and help them enjoy school and learning! I went to the University of California Irvine for a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and to Elms College for my Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences. I have been a volunteer test writer, exam proctor, and test grader for the Orange County Science Olympiad for 3 years and have had various tutoring and teaching experiences for the last 7+ years. I have taught monthly science sessions at an elementary and middle school in an underserved area in Long Beach County over a span of 3 years. I have had one-on-one tutoring experience with a middle school student for over 1 year for Math and Science primarily, but also provided support in English, History, and Introductory Spanish. Additionally, I worked with undergraduate students as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Advanced Anatomy and Physiology Laboratory at Elms College for 1 year. I also was a volunteer Microbiology Lab Teaching Assistant at Los Angeles City College for 1 semester. I come from a low-income background and I know what it was like to struggle through classes alone or with no outside help. I am here to provide that resource that I wish I had growing up and I want to empower students through knowledge and academic success. My favorite topics to tutor in are any of the sciences, as the sciences are my favorite subject and also what I have the most expertise and experience in. As a middle and high school student, I was also heavily involved with science programs such as MESA, Science Olympiad, and L.A. County and California State Science Fairs as participants. I would describe my teaching style as fun and engaging as well as informative and helpful. I use a variety of aids to help students approach areas of struggle.
As a student of life, education, both formal and informal, energizes me. On the formal front, I have my AA in Psychology, my BA in Criminology, and my MS in E-Commerce, and I have an equally diverse post-studies career history. My love of education has taken me to Southern California where I fed my love of law and learned about film. Next, I visited rural Florida with a stint at a Community Theatre. I've even spent a fair amount of time in the Hospitality Industry in Las Vegas, which, unexpectedly, introduced me to the construction industry. Through all of this, I have been a professional tutor for profit and pro bono. I believe education should be available to everyone regardless of age, sex, or socio-economic status, and I utilize learning identification to impart wisdom in the most effective way possible for each student's needs. I love that magical moment when the student "gets it." With experience in a broad range of subjects, mathematics is the most enjoyable for me, as well as LSAT Logic Games I'm the weirdo doing LSAT games at the tea house. My spare time finds me in nature for hikes and trail runs, and I can regularly be found on an obstacle course (Spartan, Tough Mudder, SISU, etc.) or doing an extreme endurance events either racing or supporting friends. Life is to be learned and lived!
Hello, I am a graduate student currently working on my Master's Degree in Big Data Systems.Throughout my high school years, I performed very well in all my classes, especially my STEM courses, in which I took and passed numerous AP exams. With my strong background in mathematics and writing, I was able to score in the 99th percentile on my PSAT and within the 98th percentile on my SAT.During my senior year of high school, I already knew I wanted to enter a technical field, but it wasn't until college that I discovered my passion for computer programming. I immersed myself in numerous programming courses, ranging from video game design to artificial intelligence, which only reinforced my decision to continue my education studying big data systems and developing my expertise in Python.I have 3 Python certificates from Python Institute, from entry level all the way to the professional level. I also have extensive teaching experiences dated back to my high school time, where I assisted my math teacher and tutored students on Calculus and Algebra. During my college years, I worked as a personal tutor for Python at all levels. I helped my students with their homework, projects, exams, certificates, or just guided them through their Python classes during the semester.I tutor a wide variety of subjects, from computer programming to standardized testing, drawing from my experiences tutoring and being tutored throughout my academic career. Depending on the requirements from my students, I always prepared sufficient learning materials and reviewed the core content that I was going to cover beforehand. During sessions, I explained key concepts in an easy-to-understand way with numerous examples, followed by hands-on examples to strengthen their comprehension. Throughout the lesson, I use positive reinforcement to boost my students' confidence and give them the feedback they deserve. I always put my students first and strive to maintain consistent communication before, during, and after meetings to ensure all my students meet and surpass their academic goals.I understand that each person has different goals when come to tutoring, and I will be very happy to talk to you so we can discuss them together and figure out the best way to help you reach them!
I am passionate about helping students unlock their potential and discover the joys of learning. There's nothing more rewarding than seeing a student's confidence grow as they master a new concept or connect their studies to something meaningful in their lives. I hold a Master's in Teaching from USC and dual credentials in Special Education and Single Subject Social Science and Math. With over seven years of experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and grade levels, I've developed a flexible and compassionate approach to teaching that meets each student where they are. My favorite subjects to tutor are reading, writing, history, and math because they open the door to understanding the world and empower students to express themselves creatively and critically. My teaching philosophy centers on viewing each student as a unique individual, building on their prior knowledge, and fostering a supportive learning environment. I believe in nurturing curiosity and tailoring my teaching style to inspire, motivate, and help students feel confident and capable.
As a graduate from UC Irvines Literary Journalism program, I have always been enthusiastic about sharing the most effective ways to write, read and communicate to the best of ones ability.Enjoying and succeeding in a literature class does not require having the right answers. Instead, I feel that its about having the tools needed to interpret the meaning behind novels, short stories, poetry, and other types of works. Its also about using those tools to draw ones own conclusions. In addition to having the right tools, I also believe that confidence is important to build in the classroom as well.During my junior and senior year of high school, I took International Baccalaureate classes in English. I sometimes struggled with writing essays and speaking up during class discussions. It was only until I sought a bit of extra help after school from my teachers and even classmates that I began to improve, which is why I see the value in spending personal time with students to help them reach their individual goals.I continued to challenge myself in English and literature-related classes in college. I took courses in writing, poetry, plays, and even journalism and film.I graduated from UC Irvine in 2014 having made the Deans Honor List.In addition to my passion for reading and writing, I also enjoy playing music, doing arts and crafts projects, and going to yoga.
I am a Kinesiology graduate student at Cal State Long Beach and I received my B.A. in Sociology at UC Irvine. I have tutored elementary students for almost a year and enjoy teaching study skills techniques. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, my favorite subjects to tutor are reading and writing because I enjoy doing both. I have always enjoyed school and feel that education is one of the most important things we can obtain in life. I hope to be able to share my appreciation for education with my students so that they may know from a young age how important it is. In my spare time I enjoy reading, watching Netflix, running and going to sporting events with friends.
I am a graduate from UC Irvine, and grew up in Southern California. I began tutoring students in high school for science and math and picked up private tutoring for calculus and physics in college. I graduated UC Irvine as a biology major and a psychology minor. I enjoy private tutoring because it gives me an opportunity to alter my teaching habits and see which style best fits the student's learning ability. I enjoy teaching math and sciences because I see them as a puzzle and a challenge for the students at first but can become a favorable subject once the material is understood.
I graduated cum laude from the University of California, Irvine's school of Public Health Sciences in 2013. In addition to this, I was very involved around my college campus. I played five intramural sports, ran my own program in student government, which brought student teaching to UC Irvine, and served as president of my fraternity where I managed more than 60 members.I am a patient, kind-hearted, and intelligent person who truly values the importance of education in a young individual's life. I am currently applying to medical school and understand the plight of the modern student. I enjoy teaching and it gives me a lot of satisfaction to watch others learn and grow through their academics. I enjoy working with students of all ages from elementary to high school and even in some special cases, college sciences.During college, I tutored more than a dozen courses from start to finish. By using analogies, drawing diagrams, and asking the student questions, I was able to break through to students who were previously panicked about the possibility of failure. I believe in an "active" approach to tutoring which includes asking the student questions to not only get closer to a complicated answer, but to build the student's confidence. In addition, I always try to identify exactly where in the thinking process a student is struggling. After tackling this issue, I have been able to explain concepts and new ideas much more clearly and effectively.
I am a graduate student in Mechanical Engineering department in UCI. I love teaching. I hope the time that I teach in Varsity tutors will help students learn and improve in their study. Also, I will gain valuable experience in teaching.
I was born and raised in Orange County. I went to UCSB but then moved back to Orange County to be near my family. After working in accounting and finance for a few years, I went back to school to get my masters and credential in teaching. I now teach high school math and truly love my job!
My passion is helping students succeed in their educational pursuits, whether that be improving grades or getting accepted by the college of their dreams. I have over seven years experience tutoring and teaching, and I pride myself in helping students become proficient and comfortable in English and history-related subjects and testing. I believe my professionalism and friendly approach greatly benefit my students' learning, and my years of living abroad in both Europe and Africa make me very comfortable interacting with people of all backgrounds. I look forward to making lessons interesting and being of service to my students!
I'm an experienced high school teacher, college counselor, and administrator with a passion for helping students. I've taught English, Social Sciences, introductory German, and writing for the last 28 years, and look forward to helping you succeed.
I began studying Japanese in high school. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Japanese Language and Literature from UC Berkeley, my Master of Arts in Japanese from Indiana University, and my Doctor of Philosophy in East Asian Languages and Literature from UC Irvine. After receiving my PhD, I served as a Lecturer at UC Irvine and Stanford University, a Visiting Professor at University of Oregon, and an Assistant Professor at Murray State University. While most of my teaching experience has been on the collegiate level, I did serve as substitute teacher in Los Angeles and spent two months working at a language magnet school teaching Japanese. I bring both experience in the collegiate classroom and from several trip to Japan to my tutoring in Japanese Language; as a tutor I want to bring all this experience to help students further their passion and understanding of Japanese language and culture. I am also available to tutor in math, a subject I continue to enjoy since high school. My teaching and research philosophy is driven by asking questions and looking for answers along with dialogue; I try to bring this approach to tutoring to work with students to address the matters they want to learn about. My spare time I spend reading to further my knowledge as well as write articles, playing and lecturing about Japanese court music, and going for morning walks.
I am passionate about Science Education and making science accessible to people of all backgrounds. I have taught seven semesters worth of science classes at California State University, Long Beach. I coached the science section of academic decathlon at Pacifica High School in Garden Grove for two years. I am currently running an after school engineering program at Pacifica High School in collaboration with the University of California, Irvine chapter of Engineers Without Borders.
I graduated from the University of California- Santa Cruz, where I received my MA in Education, and my English Teaching Credential. I also earned a Bachelor's of Arts in Drama with a minor in Literature from University of California- Irvine. Since receiving my credential, I have taught High School and Middle School Language Arts and Drama. In addition to teaching, I've directed multiple productions at the High School level and helped to develop a Visual and Performing Arts Program. As a tutor, I'm most passionate about Literature and Writing. I love helping students with reading comprehension and writing skills. My time in the classroom over the last eight years has given me a lot of experience and resources to help students of all levels improve their skills and confidence. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, gardening, and relaxing with family and friends.
I've tutored for several years now, and what I most enjoy is when I can take a subject that many students consider boring or difficult, and actually make it interesting and enjoyable for them. My main area of focus is on history and English, though I can teach several other related subjects.
My name is Rica Mendoza and I am a credentialed teacher with a Masters degree in Education from UC Irvine. Currently, I am in my 7th year of teaching and am a 6th grade homeroom teacher and middle school Language Arts and Social Studies teacher.Through my experience teaching, I have learned that teaching is life-giving, to both the teacher and the student. I have also learned that teaching is a community effort; it is a collaboration among students, parents, and teachers.I am well prepared academically and by experience to contribute to the growth of your child. The education I have received through my credential program, as well as through my Masters in Education program has taught me the necessary skills needed to be an effective teacher. Continuing my education through professional development, especially in technology, has aided me in honing these skills to better reach my students. I have worked with students with diverse learning styles and have managed to successfully meet the needs of all of my students, whether they are on an IEP or are above grade level and are looking for a challenge.I truly believe that education should be a journey of self-discovery; a journey where students find the courage to make mistakes, discover their own gifts and talents, and and use those gifts and talents to be life-giving themselves. I look forward to the opportunity to be a guiding force in ensuring your child's success.
My life has been in alternating states of privilege since my birth. I was born into a middle class family with enough finances to live modestly, yet with grandparents that knew how to spoil me rotten; that is until I reached the age of six. In 2002 my mother filed for divorce against my father for domestic and child abuse. Child Protective Services took my three siblings and me away from our family and placed us into Orangewood Foundation, a facility for foster youth. As a mere preschooler, I had no idea what that would entail for us.After the divorce finalized and our mother finally regained full custody she was allowed to move in with our grandparents who had since been our guardians after we were released from the foster care establishment. We were finally allowed to be a family again outside of a visiting room, yet nothing felt the same. After such traumatic events my family struggled to regain our footing in this rat race that we call life, or at least thats how my mother described it. Placed on food stamps and disability, my mother did her best to raise four children with the help of two grandparents that had to come out of retirement to help support the family.Life is arduous and unfair; a lesson I learned from a young age. Due to the circumstances my mothers time was spent mostly keeping the family functioning, which meant there was not always the most amount of time for parenting, especially when she was exhausted and had four young children with endless amounts of energy and need for attention. I understood that sometimes even though I wanted or even needed my mother, my siblings needed her more, and I learned how to better myself such that my mother would have one less thing to worry about at the end of the day.As I grew older and excelled in my studies, I realized I enjoyed two subjects more than the others, French and physics. I started in French 1 my freshman year and continued it throughout high school. My French professor Mme. Sloan encouraged me to keep with the language even after high school, and as a reward for staying with the French program she even planned a trip to Paris for my classmates and me during Spring break our senior year. Even after I was accepted into UCI as physics major, I kept my French skills up with a minor. As for my passion for physics, it started with a man by the name of Kevin Dwyer. I walked into honors physics my junior year and was as stunned as a deer in headlights from most of the physical intricacies of the world so clearly explained. To quote my university classical mechanics professor, It was almost as if I had a religious revelation when I first learned about physics. I threw myself into the work and loved every second of it and I am ever grateful that I had found a teacher that was able to captivate me. Before taking his class, I was unsure of what I wanted to study at University. After taking his AP physics class my senior year, I knew with unwavering certainty, I was going to study physics at UCI.I started at UCI in the summer session right before fall quarter starts. UCI has a program, called Summer Start, which is meant to bridge the gap between high school and college life. I was a part of Summer Bridge, a subdivision of the summer start program for low-income, first generation college students. Funnily enough, I would move into my dorm exactly on my eighteenth birthday, which meant my mother would be sending her son off to college the day he came of legal age. Given our family history it was tough for everyone, including myself. Although we were not able to have our traditional family birthday dinner on my birthday, we celebrated the day before to make the most of my last night spent at home. We set out the next day in our mini van loaded with all things collegiate all while choking back tears. This was the first time I would truly be on my own since I was in foster care and my mother knew that she could no longer shelter me from the world. I was welcomed into the program with open arms; as it turns out there are many people from all walks of life that have experienced excessive adversity and we were all looking for support and found it in each other. The Summer Bridge program made transitioning to university life a breeze, so much though that I could not wait to give back to the community that had given so much to me. I applied to be a discussion leader for the same University Studies class so that I might be able to pass on the knowledge that had been bestowed upon me. I received the position for that summer and the summer after I returned from studying abroad. This community has allowed me to reach out for help in times of need, but has also allowed me to offer advice and support to fellow students going through similar struggles.Fast forward a few years and I am in my third year of university and probably my biggest. My second year was spent planning for my third year, as I was bound and determined to study abroad in New Zealand since the day I found it possible. There are a myriad of reasons I chose New Zealand, but the most simple and greatest of them all was because I admired the culture and the landscape and I wanted to experience what life was like for them. As a part of applying to the program I needed to do research on my host country and apply to scholarships. Fortunately enough I was awarded the STEAM scholarship for students studying abroad as a STEM or Arts major, the only male student out of the six students selected. I went on to study at the University of Auckland and experienced life in ways I never thought possible. I roomed with Kiwis (not the fruit or bird), met travelers from around the world, jumped out of a perfectly good airplane, and made the memories of a lifetime. And as clich as it sounds, I found myself. I found myself surrounded by culture of people that invigorated the hope that I still have in humanity. I was fortunate enough to find a haven that re-awaked the inspiration to keep my dream alive that had started to fade with the passing years. I left a piece of my heart in Aotearoa; in the friends and memories we shared and in my footsteps left in the jagged earth.Studying abroad was more than just courses being checked off on list for my diploma, it was the recognition of what I wanted to do with my life. I want to eventually start my own company and learn how to run a business so that I can share my ideas and potential inventions with the world. I want to sing my heart out regardless of whos listening. I want to use my music to teach some of the lessons Ive learned and to inspire others to chase their dreams. I want my music to ring loud in the ears of other foster children around the world so that they might have the courage to keep pushing forward despite the obstacles they might face. Furthermore, I strive to demonstrate kindness and compassion to anyone who would have it even if we are nothing more than strangers; to instill a hope in people who seem to have lost faith in humanity and show them understanding. To quote Mahatma Gandhi, I strive to be the change I wish to see in the world.
I am a 4th year Mechanical Engineering Major at UC Irvine. I have taken every core math, physics, and engineering course within mechanical engineering. In the past I have tutored pre algebra, algebra, and calculus. Throughout my university experience, I excelled in math in particular.
I aspire to inspire others to learn and to reach personal goals. I get a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction when I am able to help others and see them progress. I learn from my mistakes and experiences and I believe that guiding others into the right path is one of the best things that you can do.I have previously tutored family members and peers in math and biology. I like helping others learn and guiding them to get the motivation to become independent learners.I studied and received my Bachelors of Science in biology at the University of California Irvine. Biology is one of the greatest passions in my life, everything new that I learn amazes me, and engages me more and more each time.I believe in the healing and preventative powers of food in health thus, I aim to one day become a nutritionist/dietician and help in the fight to diminish cardiovascular diseases among other problems.
I currently attend the University of California Irvine. I am pursuing a degree in Biology and will graduate in 2014. Ever since middle school, I have been infatuated with the sciences. I've always had a fascination with trying to understand the world around me. This mentality has fueled my intense interest in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. I prefer to approach the sciences with an introspective lens as a tool to figure out a piece of a grand puzzle, rather than as an isolated unit. In addition to tutoring science classes, I have also helped many students with standardized testing yielding great results. In my free time I enjoy playing music, biking, and reading.
I am a graduate of the University of Miami, where I received my Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. I also earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California Irvine. In my eight years of tutoring and teaching, I have worked with teens and adults across the United States, as well as two years teaching young children in Japan. My tutoring specialty is in Verbal, Writing, and Critical Reading for the GRE, SAT, and ACT, but I have an overall passion for English language and literature. I believe that the best teaching is usually calm and fun, which springs from a personal relationship based on care and trust for one another. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy writing, cooking (especially vegetarian and gluten-free/allergen-free cuisines), running, and traveling to new cities.
I am UC Irvine graduate with a B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences. I am currently working towards earning my M.D. at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. I have five years experience tutoring a variety of subjects to students of all ages and learning levels. I feel that education is necessary and important in improving ones life, and that my role as a tutor is to package the course material into a digestible and easy-to-learn fashion. Outside of school, you can usually find me somewhere in the ocean freediving or taking photos.
I am a math and science enthusiast. I love finding solutions to problems. In high school I was described as a nerd, not only because I graduated valedictorian of my senior class, but because I did all of my homework as well as extra problems. My love of math and science caused me to pursue a Civil Engineering degree at the University of California - Irvine. After graduating with my undergraduate degree in June 2014, I am now working on my graduate degree in the same field. My overall career goal is to work for a public agency that monitors and analyzes environmental hydrology and water resource models.I started tutoring math in high school. A family friend asked me to help her son, who was struggling with seizures and missing class a lot for doctors appointments, catch up with his Algebra 2 class. Once I started college, I got a job tutoring students primarily in Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus. I enjoy tutoring not only because I enjoy solving problems, but because I love seeing and hearing about my students success. My best day as a tutor was when one of my Pre-Calculus students told me that not only did he pass his final exam, but he moved up an entire letter grade in the class. I was so excited to hear this news because I knew that it meant that now he would be able to take AP Calculus which would, in turn, make him a more competitive candidate his dream aerospace engineering program. In my spare time, I enjoy reading. My favorite days are ones that are spent with a novel. My other hobbies include playing piano, photography, running, hiking, yoga, and travel.
I think learning is not a one size fits all. And I have been teaching Biology for 20+ years so I use lots of approaches. I tend to be more visual, but I also love analogies, making figures and diagrams, flow charts, flash cards, cheat sheets - you name it, I have probably used it in teaching. I have a BS in Biological Sciences and a PhD in Neuroscience. So I know a little of everything in Biology. And lots about the brain, mental health disorders, pharmacology, and alike.
Zealous and well-studied tech innovator and Air Force Officer. I joined the platform because a recruiter relayed an urgent need for Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT) tutors and I want to expand the Air Force's pipeline of qualified candidates.Apart from the Air Force, I'm passionate about invigorating innovation-- I want to advance Women in STEM and encourage undergraduates of all sorts to improve their technical skills and start innovating.I earned my Undergraduate Honors degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of California at Irvine; my Master of Science degree in Software Engineering at Cal State University Fullerton; a graduate certificate in Data Analytics from the Air Force Institute of Technology; and am pursuing a GC in Modeling Sim and Analysis and an M.S. in Systems Engineering at AFIT.
I am currently an undergraduate at the University of California - Irvine pursuing a dual degree in Economics and Political Science. As the older sister to two wonderful brothers, I often found myself aiding them in their organization and coursework growing up. In high school I became a peer tutor and continued to help others succeed and comprehend the material that we were taught. I firmly believe that education is one of the most important aspects to life. Beyond simply getting a job, there is so much in the world to explore, and I plan to never stop learning and growing even after I receive my degree. Innate curiosity, even into just one subject can spark a lifelong pursuit of knowledge. And as cliche as it sounds, knowledge truly is power.

I am currently a graduate student at Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester conducting research in Biophysical Chemistry. I recently graduated in June 2017 from the University of California - Irvine with two Bachelor degrees. One was in Biomedical Engineering and the other was in Materials Science and Engineering. With two engineering degrees, I feel comfortable working with students in all realms of Math and Science.I have experience in teaching students of all levels, in a variety of settings. Since my sophomore year of high school, I've worked as a Private Tutor. I have worked with students ranging from ages 10-16. I have private tutored students in Middle School Math and Science, AP English, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus.I am experienced in teaching a wide variety of subjects but, I love teaching Math classes the most. I love challenging the minds of my students and teaching them new ways to approach and solve problems. I believe that education is not about teaching students how to work through problems to do well on tests. It's about teaching them good study habits and helping them to develop a genuine love for learning. The point of education is to teach students how to become critical thinkers so that they may apply their knowledge to solve real world problems. Learning should be exciting for students; it shouldn't feel like a chore. This passion and enjoyment of learning should be applied to every aspect of life for my students.Outside of the time that I spend reading books, I enjoy spending time outdoors being active. I enjoy hiking, swimming, tennis, and running. I also have a deep interest in the arts. I love to sing, dance, and I look at the amazing photography of famous Photographers and of my good friends.
Fundamentally, science is the study of how things work ... both theoretically and practically. It is where we utilize the skills from all disciplines to solve real world problems and create future technologies. In order to truly study science a student must develop and utilize critical thinking skills. Such critical thinking skills are in great demand in today's workforce. These are the higher level skills which are "out of the box" in nature. I expect this kind of mature thinking in the work that we do in my classroom. Each of us has some goal for our years in science. In order to balance the goals of the students, parents, administration, and the State, my overarching philosophy is to strengthen the student's technical / science skills. I want the students to be able to take on the challenge of the very technical world that they are going to inherit with a focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). I also want the students to become very strong thinkers and problem solvers.
