I am a writer, editor, and educator with over 11 years experience teaching English at the college level. Classes I have taught include: First Year Writing, Writing with Research, Writing Composition, Writing Poetry, Creative Writing, and High Intermediate Writing for Second Language learners. I have also taught English to high school students during a Summer spent in Chengdu, China.I work efficiently with wide-ranging populations. From my time as a community college instructor, I experienced teaching culturally and economically diverse students at a range of abilities, ages, and learning styles. I work to be flexible, adaptable and creative to engage students at their level. I am an avid user and proponent of technology to enhance learning and have experience teaching online for over seven years, making me an excellent resource for the many supplemental learning sites available. Not only am I a teacher, but I am editor as well. As the Editor in Chief for the Young Adult online journal, The Crawl Space, I have developed and implemented editorial standards for both style and quality that are used by the editorial team. I have also worked as Copy Editor and Assistant Fiction Editor for The Fourth River journal wherein I read and evaluated submissions and contributed reviews for the online blog.My education includes a Master in Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Chatham University and a Master in Arts in Writing from Portland State University.I'm lucky because my passions and hobbies eclipse. I am a multi genre writer of Nonfiction, Poetry, and Fiction. Presently I am working on a children's fantasy novel. I enjoy camping and hiking, traveling to new places with rich history and culture, cooking and baking vegan recipes, and spending time with family--doesn't even have to be my family.

I am originally from Atlanta. I recently completed an MFA in Creative Writing at Chatham University. I speak French at the advanced intermediate level, and have traveled extensively across Europe. I feel I have a lot to offer as a tutor of writing and literature.
I graduated with bachelor of arts degrees in communications, arts, and sciences with a focus on rhetoric and public relations and a minor in international studies from Penn State University. I also have a master of arts degree psychology from Chatham University. Currently, I am working on obtaining a certificate to become a registered dietitian and eventually a master of science degree in dietetics at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.I have been teaching psychology at CCAC since January of 2014, and I love to teach. Additionally, I have worked with special needs children for two years before this, including clients with psychological disorders such as autism and ADHD. I try to take a fun, interactive approach to teaching. Because of my psychological training, I am very familiar with concepts and behavioral techniques on how to optimize study time, as well as how to calm test anxiety.I love teaching psychology because it relates to the real world, but I also enjoy tutoring in math and writing. My favorite part about tutoring is empowering students to think for themselves and building confidence in their skills.Outside of school and my jobs, I love to sing and have taken several years of voice lessons. I also love to cook. I spend a lot of time trying out new, healthy meals to cook. I also love to spend time outside and play sports. I have played intramural kickball and football. I love to travel as well (specifically to warm places in the winter) and love learning about other cultures. I also love watching movies and tv on the couch with my fiance.I have a very wide educational background, and I believe firmly in the value of education. I love helping others to learn and to feel good about themselves and their ability in an educational atmosphere.
I graduated from UConn (Go Huskies!) in 2018 with a Bachelor of Sciences degree. While at UConn I majored in biological sciences and minored in physiology and neurobiology. This past year I got my Master of Sciences degree in biology from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA and am currently working at The Jackson Laboratory as a Clinical Genomic Technologist. I am also a licensed EMT and have been volunteering for two years now! My approach to tutoring has always been taking a practical approach and putting the concept in terms the student is able to understand. I have a lot of energy and love teaching, which are things I will bring to every student I tutor! In my spare time I enjoy working out, watching sports, and reading about new scientific advances.
Hello! I'm Allie. From teaching piano, to critical reading, to precise writing, I've had a lot of amazing opportunities to work with a lot of different learners. My students have included second graders, freshman science and pre-professional majors, and even professors. As a PhD student constantly thinking and writing about music in literature, I am incredibly aware of the importance of listening. I believe that it is important to listen to what students say and don't say to help them identify their goal and process to successfully reach that goal.In addition to editing 1,000+ pages of undergraduate student writing each semester, I have also served as a Writing Center Consultant where I worked with undergraduate and graduate students at every stage of the writing process. I have also worked in multiple capacities as a detailed-oriented copy editor with professors and students on applications, personal statements, books, articles, dissertations and bibliographies. As an online Nursing Writing Modules Coordinator, I am responsible for creating modules with new content related to science writing, including instructional videos, and am comfortable with APA formatting and medical language.

Hello there. My name is Taylor Smith! I am a writer and MFA candidate at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA. I have been tutoring professionally for 6 years now and am working on a collection of poetry that I hope to have published within the next year. I am very patient, I have a strong passion for the English language (languages in general, I might add: I spent one year in Italy, and I taught English in China for two months), and I have experience working with ages 7 and up (I've worked with professional writers, published authors, teachers, college students, graduate students, and elementary school and middle school students). Some of my favorite writers include Cormac McCarthy, Jack Kerouac, Nin Andrews, Sharon Olds, and T. C. Boyle. I personally prefer to meet in person; however, I understand if some people might feel more comfortable, or if it might be more convenient to work online. I will say, though, that my purpose as a writing advisor is, as the great Stephen North said, to make better writers, and not just better writing. I am interested in helping each individual writer learn the craft of writing so that they can become self-sufficient in their own way. I am not a copy-editor, nor am I a quick-fix advisor. I take great pride in that statement. As for the fun stuff, I'm an active writer, an active reader, a musician (I play guitar, and played in a band for a number of years), a movie-watcher, a swimmer, a traveler (Mozambique, Costa Rica, England, Ireland, France, Germany, China, Canada, Italy, and Spain), and a tea-drinker. I love studying theoretical physics, philosophy, religion, and science (space exploration and astronomy). And I appreciate the act of listening to and collecting vinyl records (Bob Dylan, Wilco, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, David Bowie, Pink Floyd). If you have any questions, I would be happy to talk with you.Best,Taylor

Aside from my admissions experience, I am an attorney practicing in Philadelphia.
