I received my Master's Degree in Education from Chestnut Hill College, in Philadelphia, PA. My Bachelor of Arts Degree is from the University of Cincinnati, in Cincinnati, OH. I have Pennsylvania State Certification in Elementary Education, Middle Years Mathematics, and Language Arts for 7-12th grades. I taught in the public schools for several decades in middle school and elementary grades. I love to spend time with young people and help them become successful in their learning. I know that each student wants to feel respected and understood, and that listening is as important as talking. Each student has an individual style of learning, and my students and I work together to discover how to best approach a concept and achieve mastery of it.

I am a graduate of Fordham University, where I received a B.A. in History with a minor in mathematics. I have spent 8 years as an educator; seeing knowledge and wisdom imparted on the minds of others, as well as witnessing progression in analytical and critical thinking skills is a passion of mine. As an undergraduate, I taught health classes at underfunded high schools in the Bronx, NY. Upon graduating, I went on to teach high school math for 5 years in both Philadelphia and Chicago, simultaneously receiving an M.Ed. in secondary education, mathematics. Every year, my students surpassed school-wide growth goals on standardized math tests, including the ACT and PSAT.I have now returned to my home-state of North Carolina to pursue a Ph.D. in History. While I work on this endeavor, I am available to tutor Math, History, and English. When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy tearing through books, stumbling through being an adult learner of piano, hiking, practicing yoga, and being in good company.

An African man once said "If you want people to understand you, speak their language." I am fluent in 3 and a half languages. The reason why I say 3 and a half instead of 4 it is because the fourth one is not practiced as much as I would love to. Born and raised in Haiti (Central America), I automatically grew up bilingual speaking both Haitian Creole and French. At the age of 8 I was already proficient in English, by the age of 12 I was introduced to Spanish. In 2007, my family decided to move to America due to political problems. Adjusting to the American culture took me some time, but I quickly understood it because I already spoke the language. Foreigners I encountered throughout my path in life were always eager to speak to me because I understood them in a way that others did not simply because I spoke their language. The power of understanding someone else's language is amazing and can build lifetime relationships. I am here today to help you speak my language so you can understand me and my culture better.

I have helped turn reluctant readers into avid ones, and avowed math haters into competent, confident math students. I used to be a math teacher for the Philadelphia School District. I also was a long-term substitute for a few different schools in PA.
