I'm an experienced tutor available for math, physics and general science at all levels (grammar school to college). I have a BS in Physics from Brooklyn College where I minored in mathematics and received a 3.6 GPA. I first worked as a tutor there for other undergrads in physics and calculus at the behest of the physics department. I quickly came to realize I found tutoring very rewarding and continued to tutor after graduation at the Harlem Children's Zone. There I worked on SAT prep for high school students preparing to apply to colleges. I've also been tutoring math to a grammar school student on an ongoing basis (2 years).I try to listen carefully to a student to determine what gives them difficulty or anxiety. I find it most important to instill confidence in the student through methodical study of the subject matter and verbal encouragement. A lack of confidence at test time can be devastating. I watch a student solve problems and take note of how they deal with being stuck. This is crucial in physics and math because at some point everyone "hits a wall" so to speak. I find the solution to this is having the student work through lots of problems with careful prompting to get them used to thinking on their feet.I'm also a musician who enjoys hiking, camping and spending time with my wife and daughters. While physics is my favorite topic, I really enjoy tutoring in math as well. I have tutored students, including some non-native speakers, who struggled with essay-writing and grammar, syntax, and usage issues.My favorite subject to tutor was definitely AP Language and Composition mostly because of my interest in the subject itself. A lot of students know how to write a good essay but really struggle with this particular AP material because it requires you to take a step back and dissect the specific methods and structures at play in a given passage presented at random. Being able to put one's finger on the precise rhetorical methods that go into a strong piece of writing is really an enlightening experience.As far as my personal tutoring style, I prefer to provide students with the guidance and practice necessary to understand each individual facet of a given subject until they feel completely comfortable with the material on their own. I knew that teaching ESL was something that I wanted to do because throughout my childhood I had to be a translator for my mother. I was born and raised in New York City but have firsthand experience with how challenging life can get when you're living in a place where the language, and consequently the culture, is foreign to you. In regards to education, being able to learn new information is challenging enough but then becomes more challenging when you struggle with the language. This is why I want to help! I understand that I am very blessed to be able to communicate articulately and I am so excited to help others communicate that way too!

Each pinnacle in my life has offered a new perspective, and inspiration to seek higher ground. My journey through the arts, education, and health advocacy has given me a unique skill set that continues to evolve, and has illumined my life's mission- To discover and share insights that are creative, well-rounded, and sustainable, for the greater good of my immediate and world community.

I am a public health enthusiast and a medical student. I earned my Bachelor's in Biology and a minor in Anthropology from Brooklyn College. I have a Master's in Public Health with a concentration in Health Behaviors and Policy, from St. George's University in Grenada, West Indies. Grenada is where I developed my love for Public Health. I did grassroots work in Community Health and Needs Assessment and worked with Grenadian authorities in order to improve health behaviors in the Grand Anse Valley community in Grenada.Throughout my academics, I have always had a passion to teach. During my undergrad years I worked with Pre-K children through Americorps' Jumpstart program. I learned how to communicate with children who were between the ages of 3 and 5 years and came to a better understanding of how children learn from their environment. After my graduation, I taught 8th graders who were being home-schooled. I absolutely loved to create a bit of excitement in learning science and math. And, during med school, I tutored my peers and younger colleagues to tackle subjects like Anatomy and Physiology. I wanted to make their path through med school a little bit easier and less stressful.My approach to tutoring is that of understanding subjects, rather than rushing to the answer. I have always believed that the confidence students have in themselves plays a big role in learning, whereas fear and anxiety are a hindrance to learning and memory. This is a key player when it comes to exams as well. My main goal is always to help the student to learn how to maneuver through problems and obstacles even if they haven't come across them before. This always helps them to become confident in themselves and to not let challenges bring them down.

I have a Master degree in English and am licensed in K-12 to teach ESL. My specialty includes helping children develop their vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure. I have 10 years of experiences working with elementary students and 2 years tutoring English to students of all ages.
