There I earned my bachelors degrees in both Secondary Education and English. I've now entered the Graduate School of Special Education. I believe every student can succeed with the right amount of attention and the appropriate person encouraging and pushing them to be better. I am currently a senior at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. I am studying secondary education social studies with a dual degree in History, as well as a minor in Spanish. Every semester, I complete 30+ hours in various social study content area classrooms, in various high schools in the Pittsburgh area. I tutor social studies (U.S. history, psychology, world history, government) and beginner Spanish. My favorite subject area to tutor is U.S. history because I love to see how our nation has formed throughout the years! I look forward to helping students learn content, but also help them see where they can use their skills in this content area in their future. My goal in tutoring is not only to help students with the content, but help shape them to be dutiful citizens. In my free time, I like spending time with my family and friends, hiking or running, and reading a good book.

I'm a PhD candidate studying Clinical Psychology. Pursuing a Grad Degree in Biomedical Engineering following an undergrad degree in the same field, am looking to build new ways to interface technology with our humanity and society! Education has defined much of my career for over a decade. I began this path in high school, assisting teachers in an elementary classroom and helping out other high school students with math or Spanish courses. I have been both a voice teacher and music therapist since 1980, and believe that singing is healthy for us emotionally, physically, and spiritually! I have a PhD in Music Education/Therapy, an MA in Vocal Performance, and have taught students at all levels, from beginners to graduate university vocal majors. My teaching credo is that anyone can benefit from singing. People may think they cannot sing because others have told them that. In most cases, by working on students' listening, musical, or motor skills, they can find their natural voice! I struggled to apply myself to studies in high school, scraping by in honors classes with low B's. Hello! I am a graduate of Wheeling Jesuit University with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Spanish. I am also comfortable with Italian as that is a second language spoken in my home. From undergraduate studies I continued to Duquesne University not once but twice for Master programs! I attained a Masters of Education in Special Education and School Counseling K-12. Hello, I am currently a School Psychology Ph.D. student at Duquesne University who specializes in research in academic interventions to improve students' academic skills, specifically writing. I have learned various techniques through my Ph.D. program, as my specialty of school psychology focuses on helping students obtain success both inside and outside of the classroom, both educationally, socially, and emotionally. Overall, with being in college for almost ten years, I know what hard work and dedication can bring. I know that every student is unique and learns differently, so I work to shape my tutoring sessions around how that student learns best.
I teach AP English Language and high school Social Studies. My deepest passion is writing. I began tutoring English and Spanish when I was in high school and continued through college and graduate school. I have tutored grade school, high school, and college students, and love seeing the "lightbulb" moments after the weeks of hard work. During my student teaching, I worked with my U.S. History students and saw their grades improve by as much as two letter grades in a few weeks of applied practice. I enjoy working with all students, including those with 504 plans and IEPs.
I recently relocated to Houston with my husband and newborn daughter. Being a Cuban-American from Miami, I love the diversity of Houston and getting to try all the different ethnic foods, but my palate is still adjusting to spicy Mexican food! This past year I graduated with my Masters in History from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh where I was a Graduate Assistant. I attended undergraduate school at Franciscan University of Steubenville, where I graduated with the top GPA in my class. I discovered my particular interest in history as an undergraduate student, however I have a real passion for all of the humanities, such as literature, philosophy, theology, and political science.I have tutored a variety of ages and subjects, ranging from third grade math to college level languages. I have worked with students with learning disabilities as well as with high-achieving college students just wanting to get straight A’s. I am a native speaker of Spanish, but I’ve also enjoyed studying and tutoring French and Latin. I also have a lot of experience in editing college papers and helping students put together significant research projects.Tutoring has been a way for me to share my love for learning with others. One of the best rewards of tutoring is watching students grow more confident as they achieve their academic goals. I truly believe every student has the ability to learn and it’s my personal goal to help them discover this. I really enjoy getting to know each student personally, as we are a team in this endeavor. More than just helping students get good grades, I also try to instill effective study habits and skills that will help them succeed in any subject.
Welcome. My name is James Comunale and through my teaching career my goal has been to make material easy for students to relate to and understand. I have done this by relating the material to real-life situations so students can make comparisons between content and things they can see everyday. My main focus is math and science, so my methods of teaching truly help students when much of what we go over in the course may not be visible to the naked eye. I am currently a teacher of Chemistry and Biology and look forward to sharing some of the information I go over in my class with you. I am flexible and am able to adapt my teaching style based on the various styles of learners.
