I am a graduate of Lehigh University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 2008. After graduating, I spent several years exploring various career options and gaining experience through different jobs and learning opportunities. In addition to my degree, I completed several courses at other universities to enhance my education and keep up with my studies. These included Probability and Statistics, and Biology in Society at Kutztown University, as well as a number of courses in biology, biochemistry, and veterinary medicine at University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland where I lived to attend school for several months. I am passionate about mathematics and science, and math continues to be my strongest area. Beginning with tutoring a few of my classmates in high school, I sought out every opportunity to teach others and share my love and passion for learning. As a summer camp counselor, I instructed equestrian lessons to children ages 8 to 16 and learned to engage a group in an interactive, fun learning experience. I also had the opportunity through the equestrian program to individually instruct children with special needs including ADHD and mild autism, as well as serve as an assistant instructor for students with other disabilities (both physical and developmental). As a mother, I have learned to have patience, give encouragement, and I have rediscovered the importance of education. I am currently an education grad student and pre-service teacher I will graduate with a master's degree in secondary education in December, 2017. My goal is to become a full-time math teacher for either middle or high school. I equally enjoy teaching algebra, geometry, and calculus. As a tutor, I seek to ask at least as many questions as I answer to truly engage the student in an interactive learning session that will leave them feeling confident and ambitious. Math is a challenging subject for many students, and having faced challenges in my own studies I can empathize with students who need an extra boost and guidance to help them learn the material in a thorough, lasting way. I am passionate about teaching, and I want to see my students reach their full potential. When I am not tutoring or spending time with my family, I am usually either at the barn riding my horse or relaxing at home knitting.

I'm passionate about helping students because I believe everyone deserves the tools and preparation to build a brighter future. Education isn't just about learning facts, it's about discovering your potential, and I love being part of that journey. I've worked with students from all levels, from kindergarten through college and even graduate programs. Over the years, I've helped with a variety of subjects, but my specialties are SAT prep, SAT Subject Tests (Math II, Biology, Chemistry), Statistics, and Biology. Out of all these, I especially enjoy SAT prep. Many people think it's all about knowledge, but the SAT is really a mix of problem-solving, critical thinking, and understanding the test itself. Mastering its structure and strategies can make a huge difference, and I love showing students how to do that. I studied Biology at Lehigh University for my undergraduate degree and completed my Master's in Innovation at Yonsei University. My academic background taught me the value of hard work, curiosity, and persistencelessons I bring to every tutoring session. My teaching philosophy is simple: practice makes progress. Sure, explaining and lecturing are important, but the best learning happens when students can dive in, try things out, and connect the dots themselves. During sessions, I start with a quick, clear explanation, move into practice, and then review to make sure everything sticks. When I'm not tutoring, I'm probably watching or playing basketball. It's my favorite way to unwind. Whether I'm catching a game or hitting the gym for a pick-up run, it keeps me energized and ready to tackle whatever comes next. If you're looking for support with academics, test prep, or just building confidence in your skills, I'd love to help you reach your goals!

I have also worked on a congressional campaign and assisted my alma maters Department of Institutional Research in appraising the colleges value relative to other liberal arts colleges across a variety of academic and financial metrics. As a child of two professors, I developed an affinity for the teaching tradition from a young age. I deeply believe that every student possesses the capacity to improve in any area, and as a tutor my sole objective is to help my tutee to do so. I like to think of tutors as catalysts, guiding students through the learning process while allowing enough room for them to develop their own skill set and walk away from a tutoring session as a more confident independent learner. Working as a writing tutor, I developed the active listening skills and aptitude for constructive criticism crucial to aiding students in any subject.I am highly proficient in mathematics and a highly proficient test taker, scoring in the 99th percentile on the GRE. I consider myself a very intuitive and systematic thinker, able to deconstruct and solve problems of any nature in an efficient and incisive manner. While test-taking can be stressful for students, it neednt be. With the right preparation, any student can learn to navigate standardized tests, and I am here to equip students with the same processes that allowed me to thrive. In my free time, I greatly enjoy listening to music and playing guitar. I am also a committed runner and an avid reader.

I'm a recent graduate of Lehigh University who is extremely excited to begin tutoring. I was initially admitted into Lehigh's school of business and spent a year there before realizing my need to pursue my true passion for English. I graduated in only three and a half years with a Bachelor's degree in English as well as a minor in creative writing. Through my time at school I have peer edited countless papers, critiqued works of fiction, and written a considerable amount of my own material.Throughout my whole life I have spent much of my spare time reading books or writing creatively. My expertise is letters, words, sentences, paragraphs- how to create them, decipher them and think about them. If you have any problems with math, please do not consult me! Anything more advanced than multiplication tables is completely out of my jurisdiction. However, any struggle with the English language is firmly within my ability to remedy!I take a strong academic and social interest in global events, history, psychology, and much more. I constantly search for new information and am an avid learner with regard to both people and subject matter. I have a great deal of energy and am at times an irrepressible joker; some might say a class clown. When I am not in the classroom you are likely to find me playing soccer (played club soccer at Lehigh), basketball, or working out in the gym to ensure my health and fitness. I also love hanging out with my friends, listening to music, watching movies, and going for walks in the great outdoors. One thing that I am an expert in is connecting with people in order to make learning fun. I seek to foster a focused yet relaxed learning environment for my students in which their greatest academic potential can be realized. I am as fresh out of the hoop jumping competition of high school, standardized testing, and a prestigious university as it gets- and I want to help young adults who are in the same position that I've just been through in any way that I can.

During my time at The College of New Jersey, I have tutored many students in a variety of mathematical subjects and discovered a keen interest in it. I was there for two years and now have moved to Lehigh University where I will complete a MA in Mathematics in May. During my time here, I have been a teaching assistant for the various levels of calculus offered by the university and have had the opportunity of teaching students of all levels. Thus, it is obvious that my favorite subject to tutor is, in fact, calculus, but I am quite experienced in all other areas of mathematics as well. Since mathematics is such a conceptual subject, I find that by understanding misconceptions and errata, one might gain a better appreciation for the subject. Under this philosophy, I wish students to understand their errors fully, rather than simply being corrected when mistakes are made. Beyond the classroom, I enjoy playing table tennis, video games, and reading.

Science education or education of any kind is, in my understanding, sharing a passion with a people that you have formed a deep personal relationship with. In this respect, I make every effort to win the students over to my side by doing the small things that on the surface are in no way related to science. These small things would include: knowing their names and the pet names they use amongst themselves, knowing the meanings of their names and the etymologies of the names, memorizing their birthdays, noticing a bandage on a finger and taking deep concern in how they got injured, cleaning with them when they have cleaning duty, etc. I am cognizant of the impact of the personal touch on learning. The war to win the hearts is coupled with an aspiration to have a good command of my subject and effective lesson delivery. I take great effort to prepare for a 50min lesson especially for my middle school science classes. Preparing for small, exciting and meaningful lesson activities takes the bulk of my day. I aim to have all my worksheets contain clear instructions on the direction the lesson should take. Science education is experiential learning and I spare no effort to have all facts in science be derived out of an analysis of empirical evidence. "People generally remember 90% of what they do as they perform a task" according to American Educationist Edgar Dale in his treatise, Cone of Experience. To teach science is to provide direct purposeful experiences or taking students through the real experiences underlying a scientific phenomenon.

I would be happy to help with whatever you need. I have a VERY diverse educational background. My degree, which is in Behavioral Neuroscience, consists of courses in Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, English, Psychology, Calculus, and Bio-Statistics, and I also took courses in Japanese, History, Chinese Religion, Philosophy, and Theater (performance and production).Another reason to choose me - I worked for and was trained by one of the country's largest tutoring companies for more than two years, and within that short time became one of their best and busiest tutors. Believe me, busy is definitely an understatement. In those two short years, I taught well over 500 students in a classroom setting (in person) and well over 700 students online (through virtual class rooms, Skype, Google, etc). I've tutored one-on-one (in person and online) to well over 120 students. I was able to teach and tutor that many students in two main ways. I was able to tutor that many students in such a short time because I excelled at teaching/tutoring and because I truly invested myself in my students' success. I'm bringing all that experience with me to Varsity Tutors.I am experienced in academic tutoring from grade school through college including graduate level.I also have experience working with students that are home-schooled - especially when it comes to preparing them for entering high school or college. While I cannot guarantee scores like the ones I have, I do promise my very best to help you get your highest score or grades possible! If you have any questions - please feel free to ask. I am most interested in tutoring in English Literature, math, and SAT Prep. I have taken countless Literature courses throughout high school and college, and it is one of my very favorite subjects. Many top universities share similar expectations for problem-solving, critical thinking, and technical depth, so a Lehigh-educated tutor brings that caliber of preparation to help you succeed.
