When I became a college student, I was offered a position at my University's Math Tutoring Center. Because of my previous experiences as a tutor, I was up for the new challenge. During my Sophomore year, I became a Teacher's Assistant working in classes of 25-40 students.Throughout my various experiences, I learned that I had a knack for figuring out the way people think and what methods help certain people grasp a new concept best.A problem facing many students in Math is that many do not have a complete understanding of the prerequisite material. I am able to selectively review and and build a base for understanding current challenges. Not only do I enjoy helping students grasp new understandings of this material, but I also genuinely enjoy helping people learn about a subject that I am passionate about. It's great to be able to see my students improve their skills, while succeeding in subjects they might've had doubts on.No one genuinely hates math. The way that it was taught to you is a different story, however. Each person learns math differently, so they need to be able to find a way that connects the dots for them. Being a good tutor is the ability to not make a one-size fits all approach but rather to cater to each individual and make personalized plans for each student.

As the oldest child in a family of 8, I took on the role of unofficial tutor at a young age. I helped my siblings succeed in classes where they had uninspired or overburdened teachers. I've tutored in a wide variety of subjects, from college chemistry to middle school algebra. I learned from working with my brother Joseph, who has autism, that every student requires a different approach. I scored in the 98th percentile on the SAT and many AP exams, and I've helped many people increase their scores on standardized tests. I'm an engineering student, so I use math, chemistry, and physics knowledge on a daily basis. I bring a systematic problem-solving approach to tutoring. Ever since I was in college I have used my knowledge, experience and talents to help others. I have just completed writing an instruction manual, "60 Minutes to Straight A's in Math," for middle and high school students to succeed at learning and excelling at math. While the majority of my work experience is education I have successfully designed, developed and implemented processes to educate blind and visually impaired students. With my knowledge of engineering, math and special education I hope to assist individuals to learn math, science and reading. While educating students I focus on three goals: 1) teaching them the subject matter from the ground up approach; 2) helping the student to develop strategies to be more effective with what they already know and 3) build confidence in themselves and their abilities.

I graduated in May, 2020 with a Bachelors in Biomedical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Currently, I am pursuing my Masters in biomedical engineering and, come Fall 2021, will be starting my PhD in tissue engineering.Although my degrees have heavily focused on math and science, I have always made sure to diversify my education and interests. I minored in history while getting my bachelors, and have extensive experience with art, writing, and history via projects, clubs, and personal pursuits. I have also spent an extensive period of time sharing my experiences with others.Through a variety of clubs on campus, such as the engineering honors society and Healthy Heroes, I have tutored and taught college students, high school students, middle school students, and elementary age students in a variety of subjects. I also mentored a High Schooler for two summers in the biological laboratory that I previously worked in, and am currently mentoring five undergraduates in the lab that I am pursuing my masters in. I am comfortable tutoring in a variety of subjects and have experience in biology, math, history, and English.I believe that to help a student succeed it is first essential to ensure that the student believes they can succeed. When tutoring my goal is to not only make sure that the student is comfortable with the material but to also ensure that the student believes that they are capable of learning said material and any material that may follow. Oftentimes, students assume that they are struggling simply because they are, "stupid" and are incapable of learning the material. I don't believe that is ever the case. I personally wrestled with this anxiety when I was in high school, and understand how essential it is for students to be aware of the fact that they can grow and improve even in subjects that they find, "Impossible". It is my goal to not only teach students, but to help them build confidence in their ability to learn.

I am currently in my senior year of pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology at NJIT, with plans to attend medical school after graduation. My journey as a tutor began in high school, where I co-created an online course during the pandemic with a close friend. Together, we explored topics in neuroscience and astronomy, incorporating interactive activities and experiments to keep our students engaged. This experience reinforced my belief that learning should be fun, dynamic, and inspiring. Growing up, I often found studying overwhelming and struggled with my grades. It wasn't until I realized that mistakes are part of the learning process and that balance is essential that I began to truly enjoy learning. This perspective shaped my approach to tutoring. I strive to create a supportive and enjoyable learning environment for my students, emphasizing the importance of curiosity over perfection. Currently, I tutor elementary school children in reading through Reading Partners NYC. My sessions are designed to be both effective and engaging. If a student feels overwhelmed, I incorporate breaks, games, and interactive tools to help them refocus and connect with the material. My goal is to make learning a positive and memorable experience, ensuring that concepts truly resonate with my students. I have expertise in biology, math, and English, supported by my coursework in college, my background as an ESL speaker, and my passion for making complex subjects accessible. Outside of academia, I enjoy connecting with others through community service and exploring creative ways to make education more impactful for young learners.

I was previously a Mechanical Engineering Student with an Applied Mathematics Minor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, NJ. There I was a part of the Albert Dorman Honors College and maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA. I am scheduled to graduate from Montclair State University in spring of 2021 following clinical practice in student teaching.I have previously been employed by NJIT as a math tutor at its math tutoring center. I assist students with general lesson comprehension, homework help, and test preparation. At my university I have tutored college students in subjects including precalculus, Calculus I and II, Multivariable Calculus, Differential Equations, and Probability and Statistics. I am also comfortable teaching math at a lower, primary level. During the last four summers I teach STEAM oriented classes at a Talented and Gifted camp program. My favorite part about tutoring is helping students have their "ah-ha" moment. For each person, it takes different amounts of time and practice to reach this moment, however, there is nothing more rewarding than being one of the tools that makes it possible. I strongly believe in application and example based learning to help build a toolbox of essential skills and knowledge to combat more difficult problem solving.I believe I am an outstanding math tutor due the combination of my current standing and levels of experience. I find that learning from a person who is still heavily learning themselves (such as a student), can be very beneficial as they are more likely to understand types of learners. However, this elastic mind often comes with lack of experience. I as a tutor come with a learning mind and several years of experience.
