Hello, my name is Don Patrick Jones, and I am a graduate of the prestigious Dan Rather School of Journalism Sam Houston State University, where I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Radio-Television with an emphasis in Public Relations/Marketing. Earlier in my professional career, I obtained a Master's in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Currently, I am a Department Facilitator in Fort Bend ISD where I've also been fortunate to assist my campus with recruiting, retaining educators, and technology innovation and training staff for my campus. I'm an enthusiastic, driven leader who has a knack for offering additional skill, and awareness, to an environment, where others are willfully prepared and driven to learn. My zeal for effectiveness happens not only within the classroom setting, but in the school and business community as well.

I am a graduate of The University of Houston - Downtown. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies. I also hold a Master's in Educational Administration from Sam Houston State University. I have taught in both the public and private sectors. I have experience teaching from elementary through college. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Math. I most appreciate helping struggling students master difficult concepts. I am a firm proponent of education; I grew up in poverty and I believe that education is the biggest equalizer when it comes to economic inequities. I am the author of a children's book, I am a maker, a creative thinker, and an artist.I am proud to boast that I have a successful record with students learning math, especially for the GED!
I've been speaking German for 8 years now. Originally I took German over Spanish because my brother did and he spoke German to me to irritate me. I took German to understand him and be able to speak back. Now it's 8 years later and I'm working on a degree in Linguistics and speak German, Spanish and French.I originally was approached by my German professor in our first semester to tutor at my university, but was unable to at the time. I consistently try to explain German/French/Spanish concepts to my friends and they have gotten tired of it. In my German class, I help people with concepts they don't understand when they don't want to go to the tutor.
I received my MA in clinical psychology in 2016. I am currently working on my second MA in counseling. I have been tutoring for the past 2 years. I love tutoring students as it gives me immense pleasure to see my students succeed. Due to my educational background, my strengths include patience and being able to understand how each student processes information. This helps me in modifying my method of teaching to cater to the unique needs of my students. I am familiar with tutoring in subjects until Grade -4, which includes elementary English, Math, and Science. I also tutor in psychology. When I work with new students, I believe in creating rapport with them. This is important for me as it facilitates learning and also makes it easier for the student to honestly communicate their needs without the fear of being judged. I mostly work from the perspective of student-focused teaching and instructor-focused teaching depending on the topic being taught. I believe that active learning is very helpful for kids to gauge their level of understanding. Since I mostly work with elementary students, my teaching strategies include the use of videos, games, puzzles, crosswords, explanations, diagrams, and assessments. As a tutor, my strengths include patience (to help the student repeatedly and patiently when they reach a roadblock), adaptability (to change my teaching methods depending on the individual needs of the student), and empathy (to relate to the student, to understand their concerns and if required to motivate them to reach their goals).
I'm Derrick Alexander, a passionate educator with a Master's in Digital Media and a Bachelor's in Graphic Design and Advertising from Sam Houston State University. With over 2 years of experience in tutoring, I specialize in Adobe Illustrator, Digital Media, Drawing, Graphic Design, and Marketing. My teaching philosophy centers on fostering a supportive environment where creativity thrives, and I strive to connect with students through engaging storytelling and hands-on projects. I believe in empowering students to express their ideas visually and develop their unique artistic voices.
I'm a native Houstonian and received my BS from Sam Houston State University and my MPSA from Texas A&M Bush School of Government and Public Service. My mother was my first and most important teacher. I was home schooled until high-school and I'm sure I was not always the easiest student to teach. However, she never gave up on me and without her guidance and dedication I would never have succeeded in my high-school years and later when pursuing my higher-education. I've always been passionate about education and love the moment when students begin to ask questions or finally master a concept. I currently work for an education non-profit that focuses on college persistence with high-school students. I believe that all students have their own unique potential and passion to learn. It is important to tap into each individual students talent, help them excel, and make sure every student has the tools and opportunity to succeed at their goals.
I believe all students, regardless of age or ability, should be "met where they are" and treated with respect.Goals, both big and small, must be set. Victories, regardless of size, must be celebrated. Only then can true learning occur. If I am working with a college level Writing student, it is important to me that they gain the skills they need. Like all true teachers, my goal is to get you to be able to do it without me.The same is true if I am working with an elementary student on Math skills.
Open-minded and driven physics graduate eager to apply analytical and communication skills to instructing and tutoring students in physics and mathematics. Skilled in problem-solving, critical thinking, time management, and instruction.
My favorite thing about teaching is watching students achieve goals they did not think were possible. We are capable of so much, and I love helping students realize their true potential.
My philosophy of education is built on the fundamental principles, revolving around the fact that, every scholar deserves an opportunity to fulfill their highest academic potential. Therefore, it is my intention to make a lifelong impact on my students and their perception of education. I serve to empower their highest potential. I recognize that I am a catalyst to their greater understanding of the relevance of education and its applications in daily life. I am a mentor, coach, role model and believer in all scholars. My passion for education and scholars' academic success will ignite and fuel their growth, understanding and development in all areas of education.

I am also actively involved in academic research and have multiple publications.I joined Varsity Tutors to offer assistance to the next generation of psychologists and forensic mental health practitioners. I have a Masters of Science in Finance and a Bachelors of Administration in Business Management and Accounting all from Sam Houston State University.I have taught and tutored students ranging from elementary to secondary and post secondary education. Having been a student I learned to appreciate the benefits that having a one on one tutor brings. As a result I love being able to pass my knowledge and experience on to others and providing the same personal attention that benefited me greatly. My favorite subjects to teach are English and anything that has to do with reading and reading comprehension. In addition, because of my educational background and job experience I enjoying subjects associated with accounting, finance and business including business writing.I prefer to read a book versus watch tv (P.D. James, John Grishom, Patricia Cornwell, Greg Iles). When tutoring I like to have fun. Sessions should be a good mix of seriousness to accomplish set goals as well as enjoyable to keep students interested and at ease.
I bring 15 years of classroom and literacy coaching experience to every session. I specialize in foundational literacy, helping elementary students build the skills they need to become confident, independent readers. I meet every student where they are, break down the sounds and patterns that feel confusing, and make the work feel interesting and achievable. If reading has felt hard, I am the tutor who will help change that.
I believe in a flexible methodology. I believe not everyone learns in the same fashion or at the same rate. This does not mean a student is more or less intelligent than the next or the teacher is always right. There are fundamental methods and approaches that a student must learn when obtaining an education. The difference between a good teacher and a great one is adapting those methods and approaches to each individual. This cannot always be done in a classroom setting, and that is why we have tutors. I may not be the right tutor for everyone, but I'll do my best with everyone and hopefully change a few lives. In the end, this is not just about teaching them a specific subject, it's helping them evolve how they think in order to allow them to attack any subject now and in the future by teaching them how to break things down and approach it in an effective way.

Organized and punctual educator seeking to join a team, bringing knowledge and experience of education to the needs of a company. A passionate person is dedicated to their job, self reflecting and has determination. Strengths include attention to detail, communication skills, a strong work ethic, and dedication.
I have always had a passion for helping youth develop on all levels. I truly believe I was called to become a teacher and for so long, I ran from this. After finally learning that I could motivate the minds and create hope for students in the classroom as well as in life, I have made it my priority to touch as many lives as I possibly can. I taught for 4 years and realized that I have to make a greater impact and reach those that aren't getting their needs met, and now work with an educational nonprofit, and making strides daily to close the achievement gaps.
I am a bilingual teacher looking to share my passion for teaching others a new language. I believe that to be bilingual is a benefit to increase your knowledge of other cultures, to travel and get better opportunities in your jobs.

Hello, my name's Bri Ayers. I'm 23 and am currently majoring in animation at Sam Houston State University with a minor in creative writing. As the son of a professional educator and as one who has enjoyed both teaching and learning as a lifelong passion, I believe that education has an intrinsic value as well as its ability to set students up for future success. Growing up, I had mild cerebral palsy and was mentored by some wonderful, supportive educators who instilled in me a strong self-esteem and the value of an education. My fifth-grade teacher, told me one day after I was quite frustrated with not being able to do some physical activities with the other children "You may never be able to go throw a football and run, but you have a brain, use it!" With that as my premise I now want to encourage students to use what they have to be able to achieve their maximum success.I actually began my tutoring career before I finished high school when I, somewhat accidentally began Tutoring a fellow student in my health class. I soon found out that I truly enjoyed helping others learn. Since then I have tutored while in college and when I have worked in mid management in grocery retail as I would help the high school and college students as they prepared for various classes and exams.I hold a Bachelor of Arts in History from Sam Houston State University and have completed 34 hours towards a Masters in Family Therapy from University of Houston Clear Lake.My favorite subjects to tutor are English, History, Social Studies, Special Education, Government and Economics. I have taught inclusion students in 6th grade Social Studies and the special needs students truly seemed to build a special connection with me as I also did with them. I also believe that there are natural correlations between the remaining subjects Social Studies is the study of various governments and this is covered in greater detail once students get into high school and study US Government and Economics. History (be in world, or United States), reaffirms lessons of the previously mentioned 3 subjects as well. Furthermore, in all these subjects, good reading and writing bis a necessity.

Learning is a habit. I grew up hearing that daily and it gradually sunk in as I progressed in school. I always enjoyed figuring out how things worked and why things happened, as my curiosity knew no bounds. As I matured, I discovered how to channel this curiosity into more productive avenues by working in study groups, helping friends answer their own questions which were usually quite similar this mine, This helped develop my confidence in teaching others through college, summer camps and medical school. I love working with different age groups as they all bring unique learning opportunities. My degrees have given me the skills to cover a wide range of subjects in the sciences and medicine, and to value each person I come across. My aim is to give my students a personalised learning experience composed of great learning opportunities and experiences so they can stay engaged, motivated and prepared for not just their classes but for life in general. Mentoring students as they learn is also crucial to the mental aspect of their growth. I also ensure that clear, practical objectives are given so students can stay focused on tasks and are able to take responsibility for their own future. In addition to this, I use different learning styles visual, verbal, discussions and review sessions as students have different learning styles. Teaching really is a privilege.
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a teacher. I believe that teaching is more than a job, more than a career; it is a calling. Making a difference in the lives of others is important to me. I can't think of another job that offers that opportunity as much as teaching.
