From October 2009 through August 2014, I worked as a tutor (20+ hours per week) with a highly respected tutoring company. I tutored students of all ages in the areas of reading, writing, and math. In general, about half of my students are doing test preparation and half are getting some kind of help with school. We also had students who were struggling to do well in their classes and therefore needed help with their homework and with understanding the material they were learning in school. My approach to tutoring is definitely gentle, but also firm in terms of expecting my students to work hard during the tutoring sessions and to work diligently on any homework I might assign. I am sensitive to the learning styles of my students and do everything I can to communicate in a way that makes sense to them.
