I graduated from the University of Redlands in April 2015 with a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.S. and Biology. I have three years of tutoring experience at the University of Redlands, where I tutored college students in general chemistry, organic chemistry and molecular genetics.I initially began tutoring at the University of Redlands because of my enthusiasm for learning. I am a firm believer that the best way to fully grasp a subject is through teaching. I enjoy the challenge of explaining difficult topics in chemistry and biology in a variety of ways that tailor to each student's unique learning style. Of course I quickly learned that the most rewarding part about being a tutor is seeing your students succeed. It is gratifying to watch students finally grasp a concept that they have been struggling with, or to see their self-confidence rise with your help and encouragement. My passion for teaching, clear communication skills, and ability to build strong, personal relationships with students are essential attributes that make me a successful tutor. I am passionate about education, and I believe that the passion of a teacher directly affects the interest and learning of students. I strive to bring that passion into my tutoring sessions so that students are not only engaged in the topics at hand, but also develop their own interest in the matter. Passionate teaching must also be accompanied by coherent communication. I have learned that an effective tutor is not only excited about the subject, but is also able to convey the information efficiently. My ultimate goal in tutoring is to provide a nourishing environment that allows students to learn and grow intellectually. When I am not studying or tutoring, I enjoy playing golf, watching any sporting event (especially basketball, football and hockey), and spending time with my friends and family and two dogs.

My main interests is in global affairs and development issues. I have been educated in different school systems from around the world and recognize what style of teaching and approach is best in education. I've been enrolled in the Cambodian government school, graduated from NY high school and completed the International Baccalaureate, French Honors, and National Honors program. I also graduated with a self-designed Bachelor's degree titled The Nature of Imbalance: East Asian Politics and Media from the University of Redlands and I recently received my Master's degree in Global Affairs from Rutgers University.During my time at Rutgers I helped assist students in research and have given talks and lectures to high school and university students as part of my work with the Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights and the Documentation Center of Cambodia. In terms of my tutoring experience, I have worked with students from middle school to college students assisting them in learning social sciences and Chinese language (beginner's level). My objective is to help students find his or her own unique learning styles to help the student learn the materials better and smarter. My goal is to also teach students ways to tackle and solve a problem in addition to learning time management, as it is necessary skills that is important in other aspects of daily life.Outside of academia, I love to watch films. I'm also rediscovering my love for indoor bouldering. I also love to cook Asian food. My favorite animals are mountain gorillas and dogs - my favorite breeds are husky, golden retriever, collie, newfoundland, and chow chow.
Hello! I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design and Managerial Studies. I have been a college educator and health educator for over 25 years. I have worked with K through middle school students throughout the past 5 years. I enjoyed working as a site director and program lead with the YMCA public school K-8th grade programs in Portland, Oregon. I organized art and science activities as well as coordinate indoor and outdoor recreation (games & sports). Since 2016 I have been a tutor for 1st thru middle school students in math, English, reading, writing, social studies and science throughout the greater Portland area, tutoring at their homes . In 2019 I served as an instructional assistant for Portland Public Schools in a Special Education resource room, working with students one on one and in small groups. Being there for kids to encourage and see their growth as students is a real joy to me. I seek to continue this tutoring work both online and in person.
I am an elementary school teacher. I taught first grade for 5 years and second grade for 3 years. I hold a valid teaching credential for all subjects (math, reading, writing, science, and social studies) for K through 6th grade. I love helping students understand the thinking process in a Math problem so they have confidence when working problem on their own. I have also completed Reading Academy, a 60 hour training, focusing on all aspects of reading and comprehension. I look forward to working with your student and helping them reach their goals. I believe anyone can learn and grow given encouragement and the tools to do so.
