I am a tutor and teacher for AP Psychology. I received my degree from Widener University. I graduated with honors and have pursued different fields in Psychology before ultimately becoming a teacher. I make the commitment to the students I work with to find a solution that works for them. I believe that I need to be flexible in my approach to attend to students in a way that they understand.

Hi! I'm Alina, your friendly neighborhood tutor from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I know school is hard, and I'm in school too. I attended undergrad majoring in Biology. I'm studying to become an optometrist (eye doctor)! I am flexible to answer biology, chemistry, physics, etc. questions. I was also in Honors Art in high school and in college. So, when I want to decompress from STEM subjects, I'll be drawing/painting. #STEMmajorsunite!

My goal as a teacher is to work for my students. I love to learn and I love to help people love learning. This means my job is about finding ways you prefer to learn and guiding you on the path that is best suited to your individual strengths as a learner.
I have served as an educator for 24 years. I have taught 17 years in the classroom and 18 years online. I have specialized in teaching writing, research, literature, grammar, poetry, ESL, and business. I have worked with ages 3 through adult. I teach to help learners gain confidence in themselves! I especially love teaching online, and I know any goal is achievable. In my spare time, I enjoy walking on nature trails, going to the beach, photography, writing, singing, and listening to music. Who I Am and What I ValueI am committed to living my life with understanding and open-mindedness. I value compassion and caring for all people, including myself, paying particular attention to my family and closest friends. I care deeply about others, especially the underserved and disadvantaged. My mantra is "kindness matters." Kindness, compassion and education are my core values. They define my purpose and give meaning to my life.Impact or Legacy I Want to LeaveIn the end, I want others to remember me as someone who cared deeply about connecting to others: sharing joys, defeats, accomplishments, and fun along the way; that my life mattered because I made a difference in small, yet significant ways in the quality of other people's lives.Professional ValuesProfessionally, I am pulled in the direction of helping others find their way. I do this by sharing the knowledge I've gained in my engineering career with those struggling to learn. I am committed to devoting the skills and effort necessary to help my students know and define themselves and learn in the most effective way possible.
I am currently a college student at Widener University majoring in Spanish Secondary Education. I plan to become a Spanish /ESL teacher and hopefully have a certification in Mathematics as well. I am also very active and I love to dance, cook, and travel.I currently tutor for Widener Reads/Counts at the Widener Partnership Charter School as a Math, Reading and Spanish tutor/ teacher's assistant. I also tutor at the local Boys and Girls club as well as for the College Access Center of Delaware County as a volunteer. I am extremely passionate about teaching and education which also contributed to my induction in Kappa Delti Pi International Honors Society for Education.I have had much experience in tutoring and have also been able to teach in some circumstances. My tutoring experiences began at home and in high school when I tutored my siblings, older family members, and fellow peers. I cannot describe the feeling I get when a student is finally able to achieve a concept, or make great progress in a subject area that proved difficult. I have been able to teach multiple Spanish classes because the Spanish teacher at the school in which I tutored resigned. I was able to engage the students and at times I had to create lessons on the spot. The experience is definitely one that will benefit me later for my teaching career after graduation. I am very excited to work with other students and hope to be very helpful in their studies.I am very excited to work with new students! Please do not hesitate to ask me questions and schedule a lesson with me. My goal is to be as of much assistance as I can, and to guide you into success in whatever difficulty.
I believe that tutoring is different than classroom teaching. Tutoring is a unique opportunity for me to enter a partnership with students aimed at helping them to discover additional skills and confidence to promote their success. I believe that the successful tutor-student relationship requires an agreed-upon structure of mutual respect, and I have found that students are experts at identifying their own learning needs. The tutoring relationship is most important for nursing students because of the nature of nursing practice. Nursing students must be ready for the real world, which means that my work as a tutor is focused on content remediation and "test-prep" for class work and NCLEX success. My favorite part of tutoring is watching students achieve their goals! My work in the classroom and as a tutor is based on my experiences in graduate school. I completed my BSN and MSN at the University of Texas in Houston and then completed my PhD in Pennsylvania. Most recently, I became certified as a nurse educator by the National League for Nursing and completed a post-graduate certificate in online education from Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
Whether you need some help developing writing skills or are preparing to take the GRE exam, the first step is to develop a concrete plan. Working together we can identify steps that will focus on your strengths in order to bolster the areas that need further support. My background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education English from York College of Pennsylvania and a Masters degree in Social Work from Widener University. I am available to offer support in GRE Verbal test preparation, essay writing and editing as well as grammar and language mechanics both in person and online. I hope to help increase your confidence by learning techniques that can be applied to a variety of situations, while concurrently reducing the anxiety that can occur with standardized testing and problem subjects. Together we can develop realistic and measurable goals while we learn new or polish existing skill sets. My time away from work is spent running or kayaking around the lake, watching films and television and trying to see as many live music acts as possible. I hope to help you achieve your goals.
