I have been in the field of echocardiography for 23 years working for a variety of health systems and with a diverse population of patients. I received my Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science; Cardiac Rehab from Winona State University. I went onto more training in echocardiography and attended the Mayo School of Health Related Sciences in Rochester, MN. I am registered with ARDMS in Adult and Pediatric echocardiography. I was the preceptor for new students at my previous place of employment. Currently I am in industry employed as a Clinical Specialist in 4D Intracardiac Echocardiography. I am passionate about seeing people learn and grow professionally and personally. In addition to teaching echo I have had three years of experience training people form a large range of backgrounds how to serve in the missions field in foreign countries. Finally, I was an anatomy and physiology tutor in college. I am passionate about helping people learn.

Through God's grace I earned my Bachelor in Science degree from Winona State University in Winona, MN with a major in chemistry and specialize in chemistry tutoring. As a student at Winona State, I also participated in chemical research which I presented in 2018 at the 255th ACS National Meeting in New Orleans. First of all, I thank the LORD for my experience at Winona State and this opportunity at Varsity Tutors to teach and help students learn, grow, succeed, and take enjoyment in their studies. As a former student in chemistry, I have experienced the need for outside resources to help with mastering concepts and ideas, which allows me as a tutor to relate to my students by seeing the learning experience from their perspective and meeting their needs accordingly. It is my joy to contribute to student growth and success and enhance their learning experience. I believe that God lead me to Varsity Tutors because He gave me the gift of teaching, and working with students allows me to use my God given strengths to serve Him and pass on knowledge and wisdom to others. My tutoring philosophy can be described in two principles, or the "two commandments of teaching". The first is teaching to serve God, the second is teaching to serve the students, by instruction, encouragement and dedication to their growth and success. Also important is building a strong bond between the teacher and student. Jesus said the two greatest commandments are to love God and love others, and the same wisdom can be applied to teaching for God and students. Some of my interests outside of tutoring and learning chemistry include lifting weights, competitive running, and golf. It is important to keep the body strong and the apostle Paul says "physical training is of some value" (1 Timothy 4:8). But most important to my life is my relationship with God, and living in God's Word, and receiving wisdom from God. Our LORD instructed every one of us to "seek first his kingdom and righteousness" (Matthew 6:33). Some of my favorite Scriptures include Philippians 4:13, Colossians 3:23, and Ephesians 2:10.

I love working one on one with students. I have taught in classrooms in public, private and charter schools for the last 23 years. My favorite part is tutoring one or small groups of students.

I am a graduate of Winona State University and University of Northern Colorado. I first received my Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Recreation and Tourism and a minor in Intercultural Communication, and went on to complete my graduate studies to obtain a Master's degree in Multilingual Education - TESOL. Additionally, I am a licensed teacher for grades 5-12 in English Language Arts.After graduating college in Minnesota, I moved to Australia to travel with the intention of building upon my career in tourism by accepting an internship at a five star hotel. Soon after working here and traveling, I realized that the industry wasn't for me, and that my real passion was teaching. In college I had worked with our English Language Center students by partaking in communication practice with them. I couldn't forget how much I loved interacting with people from other countries and how much joy I got from helping those students grow in their English language proficiency. So, I continued by education by obtaining a CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults). Through this process, I began teaching English to international college students in Australia, and my spark for teaching was ignited.Upon leaving Australia, I moved to Hanoi, Vietnam to put my teaching skills to practice. There, I worked for both public elementary schools, after-school English centers, and private classes. I had the privilege to teach students of all ages - from as young as five years old to adults. I loved teaching children because of their enthusiasm for learning and excitement about learning a new language. We played lots of games together to develop their skills and tried to have as much fun as possible while learning. I also loved teaching the adults. The commitment to learning I saw in adults was inspiring, and it was great to be able to have conversations with one another and get to know each other throughout our lessons.After leaving Vietnam, I moved to Denver, CO in 2018 to start a job as an English Language Development (ELD) Specialist at a Denver high school, where I taught for 2 years. I worked with students from 9th-11th grade solely on ELD. I have taught an ELD pull-out class at this school, where students with lower-level English proficiency are placed in a class together to explicitly learn the English language. Additionally, I co-taught English Language Arts classes. I worked with an ELA co-teacher who deals mostly with content-related English topics such as literature, themes, and character development, while I as the ELD Specialist supported emergent bilingual students in accessing the content by giving them English language assistance. Our school was awarded the ELPA Award of Excellence for the 2019-2020 school year for the exceptional support provided to bilingual students. Also, as part of my job here, I worked to teach students test-taking strategies for the Writing and Language and the Reading tests on the SAT. We worked through these skills weekly in ELA class, and I also was a teacher for our school's SAT Bootcamp. Additionally, I was part of this school's CH-ISA team, which monitors every emergent bilingual at the school and their growth.During COVID, I chose to expand my teaching experiences into the virtual realm of education. I have taught several virtual summer camps with Varsity Tutors where I taught creative writing and led a literature camp centered on a specific novel. I have also taught with various online platforms where I work with a remote curriculum to ensure students gain knowledge and understanding of English, even though I am not physically there with them.In addition to working with K-12 students both abroad and in CO, I also have worked with adults. Recently, I taught ESL classes to adults twice a week, where I worked with multi-level students to help them grow in their English proficiency. I also volunteered for a year tutoring an adult refugee woman in her English abilities.Education truly is the key to success. I believe that every person, whether an immigrant, refugee, citizen, American-born or not, deserves a quality education. I have always enjoyed learning and sharing what I have learned. I find that for me reading and then putting something into practice is most effective. In 2000 I began pursuit of a Masters in Computer Information along side of my full time work and family responsibilities and completed it in 2007. In 2008 I was fortunate to start teaching online at Indiana Wesleyan University and currently continue this rewarding work. I also teach in volunteer venues. All of this requires continual learning. I am working for income much less than in the past and tutoring is a way for me to continue learning and sharing how to learn and what I have learned. I am a husband, father, and grandfather and greatly enjoy those roles.

I am in my fourth year as a math education and math double major at Winona State University in Winona, MN. I have worked for about four years as a University math tutor and have tutored classes ranging from college Algebra to introductory real analysis. I also have a lot of experience working with middle and high school age students through my field experiences. Why math is strongest subject, I tutor some statistics and computer science (Python is my favorite language) courses. Most importantly, I love learning and teaching others about math!My favorite subject to tutor is Calculus, in particular Calculus 1, because I love the depth of intuition one can achieve by thinking about topics visually. I classify my teaching/tutoring style as Experimentalist, in the sense of John Dewey, because I believe that learning is best done through hands-on experience. I recognize that students' learning styles vary drastically, so I love implementing a number of educational techniques, be they aural, visual, or kinesthetic, to maximize student engagement with content.My extra-academic interests include learning about mathematics recreationally, watching movies and TV shows, and playing video games.

I have worked in education for 23 years. I started as a substitute teacher, then got hired as a paraprofessional and finally as a Music Teacher for 5 years. I have a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano Pedagogy, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education K-6 and a Master of Science Degree in Early Childhood Special Education.
