Who needs tutoring?
No obligation. Takes ~1 minute.

My motivations for becoming a tutor stem from the relationships I built with educators during my time as a student. It is because of the support I received from my teachers, professors, and tutors that I have such a strong passion for academia. I aspire to provide those whom I tutor with a similar sense of enthusiasm for learning.I am a graduate of Clark University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and I have also taken coursework in various disciplines of mathematics and business. During college, I gained experience tutoring in two primary ways. First, I was the teaching assistant for one of Clark's Linear Algebra courses. As the teaching assistant, I held office hours for the students enrolled in the course, during which they could come to me with any questions related to the lectures, homework, or exams. I also have experience teaching middle school students through the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program in the Worcester Public School system. While participating in the AVID program, I tutored a variety of subjects including Biology, History, English, Algebra, and Geometry. While I have experience in a broad range of subjects, I am particularly passionate about the fields of Mathematics and Economics.

Writing is one of those wonderful, terrible things that can feel like a heavy burden right up until it's done - then, suddenly, you're free! Believe me, I understand. I've been doing it for years: writing papers for school, articles for magazines, stories for my friends. It can feel like it's just you against the blank page. But it isn't! You have people on your side, and I'd like to be one of them.I received my bachelor's degree from Emerson College and my master's from Clark University. Now, I'm finishing up a PhD at the University at Buffalo. Emerson called it "Writing, Literature, and Publishing"; Clark called it "Literature in English." To me, it's all of a piece - it's the craft of language. Most of my teaching and tutoring experience is with college students. I've taught introductory writing courses, fiction and poetry workshops, an introduction to literature, and - my personal favorite - science fiction. I've also been a tutor at two university writing centers, where I worked one on one with undergraduates, visiting scholars, and alumni. (I've occasionally tutored middle-school kids on a freelance basis.)My philosophy of teaching is simple: treat students with respect. This includes offering them challenges I think they can meet and understanding their particular circumstances. I try to make learning something they can - and have to - participate in, something engaging, with games and exercises that foreground how writing is present in the world. We live in strange times. Reading, thinking, and writing clearly are more important than ever. I'm here to help.
I recently earned my Master of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Clark University and am interested in pursuing a Master of Education to teach all levels of chemistry. I have experience teaching introductory level chemistry through being a teaching assistant and have an extensive knowledge of biochemistry through 3 years of research in a protein chemistry lab. I look forward to getting to know each of my students on a more personal level so I can better understand their unique learning styles. I believe a science teacher can make or break a students interest in science, so I plan to make it as fun and exciting as I can to ignite that interest!
I graduated from Clark University where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy and played Varsity Baseball. Upon graduation, I joined Teach For America and returned home teaching at a public charter school in Brooklyn, NY. After this, I took the LSAT and decided to help others to achieve the same success on the LSAT that I did. I teach all aspects of the LSAT and enjoy each and every section. As a philosophy major, I enjoyed using my brain in a logical manner and have found there to be fun in tutoring the LSAT. I believe that the LSAT can and should be a fun test to study for and strive to make sure that it is enjoyable for all of my students. I prefer to just serve as a guide so the lessons that students get stick with them more. I do this by asking questions and providing enough scaffolding to have my student create their own "Aha!" moment. When I'm not tutoring, I love everything New York sports and creating new dishes to enjoy with friends and family.
I graduated from Clark University in 2009 with a degree in International Relations. I firmly believe I have good personal skills as well as a deep base of knowledge regarding international affairs, domestic politics, history, and literature. I understand that all students learn in different ways; some are more auditory learners, whereas others do best by writing and reading. My process is to determine what kind of learner a pupil is, then impart on them my excitement for the topic, so that they are eager to attain new knowledge. Outside of academia I enjoy screenwriting, film, and the science fictions genre.
I am a graduate cum laude of Clark University, with a CELTA certification in teaching English from Cambridge University. I was born and raised in Queens, attended Hunter College High School in Manhattan, and now live in Brooklyn, so I know the city very well. I have years of experience teaching and tutoring a wide range of subjects and students. My expertise lies in two main areas. Firstly, I teach ESL to adults and teenagers. I have experience both teaching in front of large classrooms and intensive one-on-one tutoring. My students come from all over the world, and I aim to tailor my lessons to their respective needs and interests, while covering the fundamentals of reading, writing, speaking, and listening to English. I always recommend a city-as-classroom approach, where my students immerse themselves in the language both in and out of school.Secondly, I tutor elementary and middle schoolers in English, Math and test preparation. I have experience leading after-school classes as well as one-on-one tutoring at learning centers and private homes. I have had students from all different backgrounds and levels of proficiency, including many children of immigrants. I emphasize study skills and test taking strategies, and love seeing a student's eyes light up when they grasp a concept that had been eluding them.
I enjoy working with students and helping them achieve their goals. I have experience tutoring students of all ages in a variety of subjects including, History, German, and English. As a History major with Economics and Education minors, I feel prepared to foster an in-depth understanding of diverse subject matter. I am currently completing coursework to receive my Masters of Arts in Teaching and have a lot of experience working with students. I have taught in both a classroom setting and in one-on-one tutoring sessions. I look forward to working with you!
I enjoy providing personalized academic tutoring & instruction to students. I am a certified teacher with 16 years experience, a Master's Degree, post graduate training and thousands of hours of specialized training.I recognize that all students learn in unique ways. As such, my approach to teaching is one that adapts to a student's needs & preferences. I believe that students must feel comfortable in order to learn and retain information so I strive to create an environment conducive to learning. I encourage students to ask questions and use examples to illustrate concepts.I have worked with students of all ages & abilities for more than 16 years. Specifically, I have worked as a literary specialist for those learning and struggling to read including those with diagnoses of learning disabilities. I have worked with thousands of students helping them become proficient readers.I have also taught English, ELA, Spanish and history for students in grades 3,6,7,9,10,11,12, and university classes during my years of teaching at public and private institutions.I am a native Spanish speaker. I also teach classes at the university level for teachers. I spend my summers in Vermont.I enjoy learning new things and meeting new people, reading voraciously, traveling, drinking coffee, baking, and playing with my small rescue dog named Annie.I look forward to working with you and helping you achieve your academic goals.
I graduated from Clark University in 2002, did graduate work at UMass Medical and became a scientist in 2004. Until 2011, I worked in the labs of some of the hottest biotech startups in Boston helping to create medicines to help cancer patients, diabetics, and create general anti-pain drugs. I published and won awards for my research, but something was missing. I realized that the most fun part of my job was educating people about my research. Coming from a long line of teachers, I decided one day to go back to school and get my Masters in Education. I graduated from Salem State University with a Master of the Arts in Teaching Biology in 2011, got my teaching certifications, and started working in high schools soon after as a Biology and Chemistry teacher.During the past 3 years, I have taught three levels of Biology, including MCAS directed, college prep, and AP. Also Evolution, Ecology, and Cell Biology. I have also taught Chemistry for the past two years. I have been tutoring Biology, Chemistry, SAT's, SSAT's, ACT's and Algebra/Pre-calculus for the past three years. All of the students I have tutored have seen significant improvement in their grades and subject understanding as a result of our lessons.I believe that science is interesting and fun to learn. Sometimes, it is difficult for students to understand the relevance and importance of science in their lives and struggle with the material. As your tutor, I will help you to understand the intricacies of the subject and visualize the many connections that exist between the subtopics. I will also help you to develop the study skills and organization necessary for mastery of not just science, but also other information intensive topics.I keep things loose and fun, but also focused. I like to keep my lessons stress free and relaxed. Please contact me if there is a way I can help you, your son or daughter, or anyone you know learn the awesomeness of science and math or help give you the edge to reach your SAT goals.
I graduated with a Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry at Northeastern University. I also have a Bachelor degree in Biochemistry from Clark University. And I received my IB diploma from UWC of the Pacific. I am excited to tutor in Chemistry and in French. Looking forward to working with you!
I had my first experience working with students to improve their academic performance when I was in 7th grade. I volunteered at a local elementary school helping 4th graders in math, reading comprehension, and Spanish. Watching the kids I worked with grow in their understanding of the material and develop a genuine interest in what they were learning inspired me to continue volunteering with different schools. Over the years I have helped students from nine to fourteen succeed in subjects that previously daunted them.Currently, I tutor students in math through Algebra 1, all levels of Spanish (including IB language courses and tests), Public Speaking, IB History HL, and the IB Extended Essay. While I enjoy teaching all of these subjects, Spanish is by far my favorite. Growing up in the Spanish Immersion program helped me develop a passion not only for the language, but also for bilingual education. When I came to realize that not all students were given the opportunity to learn a second language from such a young age, I became an adamant supporter of improving the way foreign languages are taught in this country. Through tutoring, I hope to increase the number of bilingual students and help nurture the cultural awareness that goes along with learning another language. My passion for Spanish extends beyond my work with students. I am currently working toward getting a Bacheolor's Degree in Spanish at Clark University with the ultimate goal of attending graduate school and earning a PhD. Before attending Clark I graduated from Cleveland High School with a full IB diploma.Aside from my Spanish Immersion background and my successful completion of the IB program, my experience as a captain on my high school's Speech and Debate team has helped improve my ability to work with students. I actually developed my teaching style through the challenges I faced as a captain. The group I was responsible for my Junior year mainly consisted of speech kids. Most of the exercises our coach gave us to help them practice, though, were meant to hone debate skills. I ended up researching other activities and tailoring them to better suit the needs of my group. That's one of the reasons I enjoy tutoring students one on one. That kind of environment allows me to alter my methods and techniques in order to fit the student's learning style and help them meet their specific goals in each subject area.Outside of tutoring I like to spend my free time swimming and reading. I am a small group leader for the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship chapter on campus and I'm the president of Clark Fitness. I also play percussion and the drum set for the worship team at my church.I look forward to helping students connected with Varsity Tutors improve their performance in school and discover how exciting learning can be!
I graduated from Wartburg College in Waverly, IA in 2017 with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. Currently, I am obtaining my Masters of Arts Degree , in International Development, from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. I began my teaching journey, in 2018 where I began substitute teaching grades K-12 in a highly diverse school district in Southwest Minnesota. During this time I taught a variety of subjects from reading, writing, math, English and science. In August of 2018, I moved to Prague, The Czech Republic, where I completed an intensive 120 hour accredited TEFL(Teaching English as a Foreign Language) course. During my training, I learned how to create engaging and informative lessons on speaking, listening, reading and writing. Moreover, I independently created and taught 10- hour long lessons to English language students, within my first month of training. After receiving two TEFL certificates, I spent one year in Prague, teaching beginner, intermediate and advanced English as a second language(ESL) to students in person. During this time, I taught students ages 4-70. While living in Prague, I also began my online teaching journey. In October of 2018, I began teaching English as a second language to students in China through VIPKID, GOGO KID and Pal Fish, all online English language learning platforms. I have continued to teach ESL online, for the past four years. I have found teaching online requires a different skill set than in person teaching. Teaching online requires showing and leading students to answers rather than telling them. I aim to include three components in each lesson I teach. It also requires great enthusiasm, patience, creativeness and an ability to keep students engaged through an online setting. I do this through a personalized teaching style for each student and lesson. Each student learns in their own way, and it is imperative I adapt my methods and styles to meet the needs of the students. I strive to meet students where they are in their learning journey. I acknowledge student's strengths, while working on areas of improvement. Specifically, when assisting students with trouble areas, I remain patient, but encouraging. When students speak, read, listen or write incorrectly, I aim to elicit or draw out a correction from the student before I offer them the right answer. Simply stating, I encourage the student to come up with the right answer themselves, as this is a key moment in learning any subject area. When students are able to recognize mistakes they make on their own and then make a correction, they are more likely to remember that information in the future. Positive reinforcement and props are also key to creating a fun and engaging learning environment. I like to create a fun and colorful class environment, to encourage participation from students. I also aim to use a reward system for each class. I found when students have something to look forward to within the lesson, whether that is a short game or a prize, they remain more focused and on task. While my time teaching in Prague ended in 2020, I have continued to teach online and substitute teach in person up to the present 2021-2022 school year. During my latest years of substitute teaching, I have taken on longer teaching assignments which have given me more experience teaching areas such as: biology, algebra, history, social studies geography and reading. I have also worked with students who have various learning abilities and need individualized learning plans. I have valued education my entire life. Education is key, to teaching our youth and our adults about how they can be productive, engaged and happy citizens of the world. I am dedicated to give my time to each student to help them be successful in and out of the classroom. I am looking forward to seeing you in class soon.
I am an English teacher in NYC with four years of experience and I specialize in writing and text analysis skills for middle and early high school students. I can also support older students in test prep and AP courses. I'm passionate about helping young people build their confidence in ELA so that they can find their voice and advocate for themselves as engaged learners. In addition to classroom teaching, I've spent years as an ESL tutor, Big Sister with Big Brother and Big Sisters of America, a camp counselor, and creative writing instructor. When I'm not teaching, I like to ride my bike around the city, bake sweet treats, and swim in the ocean all year round with my family!
All students have the potential to learn, develop and create. As an English tutor, I believe it is my role to support the academic development of students and help them become effective communicators. I will contribute to these aims by improving students' writing skills; enhancing their understanding of literature and knowledge of literary history; and guiding them into understanding how literature can reflect social values, thereby contributing to a greater consciousness of how they themselves fit in their cultural contexts.
I discovered my love of teaching back in elementary school when classmates started asking me for homework help, and I haven't looked back since! I began formally tutoring in high school and am now on a path towards earning a degree in secondary education from Clark University and a teaching license. I aced nearly every class I took in high school, 10 of which were AP, and have experience tutoring for all these subjects, including math through calculus, English, and several types of history. My top specialty is physics. I am currently a senior working towards my B.A. in physics, and I just returned from a year of study in Europe, during which I worked full time as a climate change researcher at the University of Helsinki in Finland and passed two intensive PhD level atmospheric science courses. This subject is my passion and I love passing that on!Outside of academics, I love playing music, especially in marching band and a Scottish bagpipe band, and dancing! My favorite moments are being able to explain something to someone and watch them light up when they finally understand. I understand that sometimes it's difficult, but I think there's no better feeling than overcoming that in order to learn, and I love being able to spread that around.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate in the state of North Carolina. I have passed my clinical exam and will have completed my hours to transition to the LCSW in May. My professional areas of expertise include substance use, anxiety and mood disorders.
I am a current Master of Food and Agriculture Law/Policy student at Vermont Law School. In 2020, I graduated from Clark University with a B.A. in Geography & Spanish with a minor in Political Science. Throughout my academic and professional career, I have tutored students on a variety of topics from high school through undergraduate studies. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Spanish as a second language education and government/civics education. I am also an expert in food systems and food policy. I firmly believe that knowledge of the world, culture, and other places will make us better people, able to build a better world. In my free time, I enjoy reading the news, watching documentaries, and sudoku.
I have been tutoring math, science, and test prep for over 10 years. I received my Bachelors Degree in Psychology at Clark University, completed the Postbaccalaureate Premedical Program at Bryn Mawr College, and I am currently completing my medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine. I plan to train as an Emergency Medicine physician. I love working with kids, teens and adults to help break down concepts and build up confidence. My favorite subjects are math and physics, and I enjoy sharing tips and strategies for standardized tests like the SAT or MCAT. I focus on building strong foundations and understanding concepts before diving into solving problems. I help my students see that, with a little guidance, they can get themselves to the answer. Together, we can make your least favorite subjects fun! My hobbies include salsa dance and googling pictures of puppies.
I have tutored in high school students in Math and college students in Finance. I am passionate about helping students reach their full potential.
As a graduate in Informatics from Clark University, I bring over two years of tutoring experience in Algebra, Calculus, and Statistics. My teaching philosophy is rooted in creating a supportive environment where students feel confident exploring complex concepts at their own pace. I use practical examples and interactive problem-solving techniques to make abstract ideas more accessible and meaningful. What motivates me most is witnessing the moment a student gains clarity on a challenging topic that sense of achievement inspires me to design engaging and effective learning experiences. Beyond tutoring, I enjoy exploring emerging technology trends and applying tools like Tableau for data visualization, which enhances my ability to present information clearly and connect with students in creative ways.
I am a graduate of Clark University where I received my B.A in Physics and Mathematics. I grew up going between Los Angeles and Paris, always in a French school so I quickly became bilingual.I have always loved science, in particular physics and mathematics and have been lucky enough to share this with others through tutoring. I can help with all levels of math and physics up through graduate level course work. I also can tutor all levels of French as I have taken the French baccalaureat. I started tutoring in high school, everything from math, literature, to French and Latin. I have worked mostly with high school, college students and adults, but have also helped younger students accomplish their goals. I love teaching and find it wonderful when I help my students understand complex concepts. Though hard science can be scary, all my students have come to have a much deeper understanding of it which is a reward in itself. In my free time I enjoy traveling, playing music, and computer programming. In my free time I like to discover new things about the city
I went to the University of Mary Washington to study environmental science and to get licensed to teach in the state of Viginia. Afterwards, I went to Clark University to get my master's in environmental science and policy. In addition, I have a 120 hour Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate and a pass B in a CELTA . Since getting my degree, I have taught a variety of subjects; earth science, English, history, STEM, ESL and elementary math to a variety of ages. I have over 5 years of teaching and tutoring experience. I have taught elementary students in China, adults in Thailand, and secondary students here in the states. My favorite subject would have to be the sciences, because that is what I went to school for and what motivated me to love learning when I was younger. I absolutely love teaching using a hands-on approach, where the students are the main focus of the lesson. I see students succeed the most when they are the teachers. The greatest motivation for being a teacher is seeing students excel at something they find difficult. When that light bulb turns on for them, it always puts a smile on my face. I customize my lessons for the learners. no matter the subject, I prepare my lesson for each student I teach. Everyone has a certain way they learn and as your tutor, I will tap into that to get you to where you want to go.
Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it.The above statement may be a cliche; however, cliches have a nasty habit of turning out to be true. I firmly believe I have a duty to my students to help them succeed, both academically and in life, and I believe the best method by which I can accomplish this is to impart some of my knowledge of history, psychology, and philosophy. On one hand, I recognize the importance standardized testing plays in the future of my students, and the importance of their success within that framework. As such, one of my first goals will always be to help students achieve as close to a perfect score as is possible for them. I believe it is here however that my methodology diverges from the norm; because of my multifaceted background in the humanities, I've come to recognize history, culture, and language as ineffably entwined. I want to teach my students more than just dry facts and abstract dates; I want them to understand it in context and as a story.Whether it's history or statistics, understanding information in context is important to scoring well on tests as well as how it relates to daily life. A thorough understanding of a topic can only be attained this way, and thus I believe my two goals compliment one another perfectly in this regard. Albert Einstein once said one doesn't fully understand a topic until one can explain it to a six year old; I'd like to help your kids attain this level of understanding. It's only once a topic becomes something that can be discussed critically by a student in context that true understanding can be said to have been achieved.
I am a patient, kind, and a confident fit for a student seeking English (up to high school level for testing, writing assistance to university standard), Japanese (experience teaching age 12-14, early beginner to intermediate level/JLPT N5+N4), and Environmental Studies (AP test prep).I was a high honors/Dean's List student throughout my academic career. The privilege of studying Japanese at Phillips Exeter Academy for four years is something I continue to be grateful for every day. I spent another year in college studying the language, before turning to the marketplace for additional training. I was a server at a sushi restaurant for 2 years. I learned how to embarrass myself a little less every day contributing to noise of the small kitchen staff. I also learned how to most respectfully serve each of my guests. I am studying to take the Japanese Language Proficiency Test at the N3 level this December (as they host the exam annually). I'm not nearly as fluent as I am in my native tongue, however I think it gives me great perspective to empathize with students feeling disconnected to their passion for grammar (in their first or second language).I got my B.A. in Global Environmental Studies from Clark University where I studied geography, management, and entrepreneurship. My dream is to be self-employed and consulting on the development and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. I volunteer time to serve as the Vice Chair of the Ambassador Advisory Council for the Global Citizens Initiative, which essentially means I'm always looking to engage in thoughtful discussion and project-based learning experiences with diverse, intelligent, motivated, young people from all corners of the globe. I look forward to meeting even more students!
After graduating in 2007 from Clark University with a business degree, I went straight into account management, and remained in various similar positions for seven years. Knowing that these jobs were not what my heart truly desired, I looked into pursuing my dream of working with children, and started graduate school at Lesley University in 2014. I completed my degree requirements in December 2015 and will have my Masters in Elementary Education (1-6) degree conferred in February 2016. I have my SEI endorsement and initial licenses in elementary education and mathematics (1-6).Since September of 2014 I have been working as a kindergarten paraprofessional at the Carlton Innovation School in Salem, MA. I also provide substitute coverage when needed in classrooms throughout the school. My experiences as a para range from assisting the kindergarten teacher with classroom management to leading full class instruction if she is unavailable. I have also taken a role as an in home tutor for a student at the Carlton who has a medical condition which requires him to be hospitalized for three days each month. I have worked with him weekly since he was in the third grade, and he is now a fourth grade student. During my student teaching I led full class and small group lessons. I planned and taught a week long Lucy Calkins literacy unit and worked with a guided reading group. I proctored many assessments, including the Fountas and Pinnell benchmark assessment system, MCAS and ANet. I executed a week-long fifth grade mathematics unit and gained knowledge of the EnVision math curriculum. Through these experiences I have built strong personal relationships with my students, parents, and school staff.
Understanding the style of learning and adapting to each student needs is the key for its success in mathematics. I look forward to working with you and helping you become a successful and independent student!
I graduated from Clark University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a minor in History. I tutored an 8 year old and a 12 year old for three of my four years at Clark. I have spent the last two years working in an elementary school through a program called City Year Boston. During that time I worked with students on a variety of different subjects. I spent a good deal of time working with students one on one and in small groups. I have also spent a summer working with high school aged students. My teaching philosophy stems is all about growth mindset. I don't believe anyone is inherently bad at a subject. I believe that they just haven't been taught the subject in a way that makes sense to them yet. Therefore, I encourage students to try and think about problems in new and innovative ways. I have recently moved back to NYC, where I was born and raised, and I am very excited to share my love of learning with any student I should have the privilege of working with.
I have 10 years of experience in education, including classroom teaching, tutoring, and outdoor education. My background is in ELA and reading intervention. I have worked with students from kindergarten through college, though my focus has been at the middle school level. I am always excited to hear about what my students are reading!
I am currently a student at Clark University, majoring in Physics and minoring in Math and education. I love working with kids, and I plan to bring enthusiasm and relevance to every tutoring session. I believe connecting math concepts to the real world helps students see where it is applicable and useful, therefore generating more of an interest in the subject. This past year, I was an assistant teacher at University Park Campus School, in Massachusetts. I helped out in a 10th grade classroom, focusing on a single student and groups of students to help them grasp concepts presented by the teacher in class. My experience was everything I wanted and more. I was able to connect with my students, and get them to fully understand the material that they were working on. Beyond that, the students became more interested in the subject once I explained how Geometry was useful in everyday situations.Tutoring and teaching are very important in a child's development, and I invite you to choose me as a tutor because I promise I will bring knowledge, enthusiasm, and fun to every tutoring session!
