I believe these techniques help the students to develop a stronger understanding of Mathematics.In addition to teaching for 40 years, I also coached basketball and golf at the high school level, and I was a head varsity coach for both sports for over 25 years. At home I enjoy playing golf, working on my lawn and garden, bird watching, and working out.

My classes focused on grammar, usage, voice, and creation. Most of my students were either students who spoke English as their second language or who were first generation college students. After a year at HFCC, I spent seven years teaching English as a foreign language in South Korea. I mostly worked with elementary and middle school students, but I did have some adult students as well. Graduated from eastern Michigan University with a bachelors degree in Linguistics and a minor in Japanese. I have also spent a year studying abroad in Japan at the Japan center for Michigan Universities in Hikone. As evidenced by my field of study I find that language is what I am most passionate about and more specifically Japanese. perhaps due to my background in linguistics I find that I tend to like taking a more technical approach to the idea of language learning and try to add elements of the science of it into the study. for example, talking about the difference in construction between two languages and how understanding these differences can help with the language learning process. As someone who studied linguistics I have a passion for language learning in all of its forms and I try to impart a bit of that passion on students as learning another language in in my opinion one of the most valuable and rewarding things that a person can do. I ended up enjoying it so much that I went back to college at Eastern Michigan University in the Business College. I got my Bachelor's degree in Marketing and an M.B.A. in Management. I spent the next 30 years managing businesses. Restaurants, Apartment complexes, Tax preparation, and Banking. I also owned my own Restaurant in addition to several senior care homes. Through all of this, I realized that helping my workers was the part I enjoyed the most. So I went through alternative certification to get my teaching certificate. My unique background has helped me understand where students are coming from and help them get an understanding of the material, sometimes in a different way than the classroom. Sometimes it just needs to be explained a little differently. Sometimes the student just needs a coach to guide them through the process until they get it. Each learner needs to learn in their way.
