I am a high school English teacher who loves to read. I have been teaching high school for twelve years in Houston and Atlanta. I enjoy helping my students with college and scholarship essays and applications. I have helped fifteen of my students earn the Gates scholarship and have helped many others earn POSSE. I teach both AP Lit and AP Lang and love to analyze literature and rhetoric. I was teacher of the year this year and was a Yale National Teaching Fellow in both 2006 and 2008. I have a B.A. from the University of New Mexico in English Literature and an M.Ed. from Georgia State University in English Education. I am certified in secondary education English, ESL, gifted, and special ed. I am an unbelievably passionate teacher and work tirelessly to help every student reach their potential. I occasionally use kooky methods to reach my students (including singing and dancing) but my class is rarely boring and my students are ready for college when they leave me. I have been accused of being obsessed with the literary research paper, and I am guilty as charged. In my free time, I enjoy movies, theatre (especially Shakespeare), exercising, volunteering, and knitting.
A central part of education is achieving goals. You establish the goal of learning, and you work to meet that goal. Once you have achieved the goal of learning you can achieve higher goals. I want to help students achieve those goals.
Hi! My name is Tommy. I am currently enrolled in Georgia State University majoring in Chemistry/Pre-Pharmacy. I am bilingual in Chinese, both Mandarin and Cantonese. Subjects that I had taught in the past include mathematics from algebra to college calculus, Chemistry from general chemistry to college organic chemistry, economics, physics, and biology. I had been a tutor for almost 4 years now and I had taught in Georgia State University as a teacher assistant. I am dedicated to help and teach my students to excel in their academics. I had a lot of achievements when I was a tutor. I helped this young middle school student, who was struggling in algebra, to obtain the highest test grades in his class with a 96. I also helped a few biology students who were also struggling to improve in their academic performance. My strategy in tutoring is to observe, listen, understand, and help the student. Observe the student's past performance, listen to them and check to see why they have such poor performance, understand the requirements in their school curriculum, and then start helping the student to perform better in school.
I'm dedicated to helping students meet and exceed their academic goals. I hold an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Georgia Tech and a Masters in Biochemistry from Georgia State University and look forward to the opportunity to assist more students with reaching their goals!
Hey everyone! I am currently a first year at Georgia State University. I'm working towards a bachelors in computer science. I've always loved helping out students that need assistance on their school work. I've been in the postion where I have found the material I was learning hard, and I needed help with my work. As a tutor, I hope I can help those of you that are in that postion. Even if you know the material well and just need review, I am still willing to help. I'm motivated to assist students in any way I can. Currently I tutor elementary to middle school math. I also tutor trigonometry, algebra, and pre-calculus.
Written communication is both my passion and my profession. My areas of expertise include Business Writing, Composition, Creative Writing, Editing, Journalism, Literature, and Rhetoric. I have helped students at the high school and college level prepare for exams and essays with great success. In addition, I regularly write articles, copy, and news for popular and scholarly audiences. My skills as an editor have been honed over the years, and I am eager to help students learn to proofread, edit, and revise their work so that it meets the expectations of their instructors and peers. Currently, I teach college English in the Atlanta area and, in my spare time, I read widely, compose electronic music, exercise, and experiment with vegetarian cuisine in the kitchen.

In September 2014, I will begin my Masters of Arts in Teaching through the University of Southern California. I have had multiple experiences teaching at the informal level, and have most recently completed a Secondary Education internship. This internship allowed me to work with students in on-level Freshman English, and Senior AP Literature. I was also allowed to observe classes at the Sophomore and Junior levels. My favorite subject to teach is Writing. I have a passion for literature, and I greatly enjoy writing my analysis and conclusions down, manipulating the English language to reflect exactly what I mean.I believe in cognitive learning; that is, I believe students should always have the opportunity to voice what they have learned. That way, I can understand the way each student grasps concepts, and it allows me to see exactly where a student has trouble with a concept.Outside of academia, I work with an animal rescue and service dog training program. I take part in the rehabilitation process for dogs who need to learn how to live in a home, and I assist in training the service dogs. As the Director for Public Relations for the branch, I also oversee the public aspect of the organization.
Hello! I am a current graduate student and I am pursuing my Master's (MSHS) in Clinical Microbiology at George Washington University. I've always loved biology; the subject is very broad and can be considered interdisciplinary (in my opinion). I could become a subject matter paralegal, can work for the government (CSI/Forensics), or I can work for a private company doing research or sales or drug development. The possibilities are limitless, one just have to be motivated and disciplined! I specialize in microbiology (bacteriology, virology, mycology, and parasitology) and molecular and cell biology, but I am still adept in the various other subjects that pertains to biology (general, evolutionary, animal, genetics/genomics, etc.). I look forward to interacting with such great students!

I have just completed my MA in English Literature at Georgia State University, where I worked as a writing tutor in the Writing Studio and as an instructor for multiple sections of English 1101 and 1102. I have also spent a year working as a high school English Language Arts teacher. My favorite part of these jobs has been working one-on-one with students and writers, helping them improve their ability to convey themselves through writing. I believe in an interactive tutoring style, one in which I do not function as an editor or grammar-checking machine but rather as a collaborator with the tutee. I want to have conversations about writing, meaning, and intention with my tutees so that I can facilitate the flow of their ideas both globally (at the project level) and locally (at the sentence and paragraph level). Using this approach, I have seen writers improve not only the pieces which we worked on, but also improve their relationship to writing as an iterative process of self-expression and personal and professional growth, regardless of their disciplines or goals. My past work experience has reinforced my ability to carry out my pedagogical philosophy. During my time as a tutor, I helped students and alumni with a wide array of writing, including essays, resumes, grant writing, lab reports, screenplays, memoirs, and other creative writing. I worked closely with two MFA students on their art theses (one on sculpture and the other in mixed media painting) and a PhD candidate with her dissertation on chemistry pedagogy. I am familiar with AP, MLA, and Chicago styles of formatting. I also worked with a variety of special needs students. In 2019, I received the "Tutor of the Year" award from the Writing Studio (voted on by my peers and the Studio directors) As a graduate student, I developed strong research methodologies, making me especially adept at helping writers with research projects of any kind. As an instructor, I became adept at providing feedback to my students' assignments, specifically focusing on rhetoric and argumentation. Beyond post-secondary education, my year as a high school teacher made me familiar with the National Standards of Excellence for high school students and many ELA assignments and their learning outcomes. Based on these experiences, I am qualified to work with a wide age range of students and writers from many disciplines.
I am a rising senior at Georgia State University studying poetry and religions. I have an extensive background in writing that includes long essays and creative pieces. I also grew up speaking some Spanish at home, as well as taking over ten years of Spanish classes in school. I hope to become totally fluent someday, so I sharpen my skills with DuoLingo daily.Writing is my true passion, and my goal is to help empower others to be able to use this skill. I firmly believe that every person can develop a writing style that works for them, and I hope to help clients gain the knowledge and confidence they need to communicate their ideas effectively whether they are working on a research paper or a piece of fiction. A lot of people I know have admitted, at some point, to being flat-out scared of writing. Good communication through writing is a nuanced skill, but with patience and practice it can become second-nature to anyone!I'm currently the Poetry Editor at Underground, GSU's undergraduate art and literary journal. I have lived in the Chamblee-Tucker area my whole life, and my hobbies include writing poems, reading, drawing, playing bass, and playing rec roller derby. My favorite author is James Baldwin.

That said, I hope to understand what speaks to you as an individual and then incorporate that knowledge into our tutoring sessions for maximum success. I look forward to working with you.

My passion derives from an early age, I was introduced to education by my now mentors who showed me that learning could be fun and exciting. Around the age of 16 my high school teacher referred me to a daycare, where I originally was just housekeeping. But one day we were short on staff and the director put me in the infant room once she saw my skillset with even just those in such a crucial and critical part of development, she moved me to the VPK program and that's where I learned to really appreciate the human mind and how to nurture it.As of current I hold and A.S. (Florida State College at Jacksonville) in arts, a B.S. (Georgia State University) in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing on Early childhood development, and I am now enrolled at Western Governors University where I will be focusing in Special Education. As a tutor I primarily focus on math subjects but not limited to English, language arts, and reading. But I must say my favorite will have to be math, more so because it's based off equations and once you have a grasp on them you can figure out anything no matter how complexed. If I had to describe my tutoring style, I'd say it depends on the student. While I want my students to be verse in their learning styles I feel as if I can adapt my teaching to my student's strengths while always improving all other areas.
I simply just want to help students excel in Cybersecurity and Math. I believe all computer science students need cybersecurity as a fundamental part of building and securing software. I also believe that SAT mathematics isn't testing knowledge but your speed at solving a problem.
I have a Bachelors degree in history from DePaul University and am currently pursuing a Masters degree in data analytics. My blend of liberal arts with a computer science graduate degree has offered me the ability to understand technical subjects coincided with the ability to explain them with a strong verbal ability. I have experience coaching youth sports including ice hockey and flag football from ages 6-18. This has taught me valuable teaching skills that allow me to maximize my time with each student dependent upon their needs. I get great personal enjoyment spreading my interest in computer programming with young minds. In the ever increasingly automated economy, I'm confident that computer programming skills is one of the best antidotes to becoming an irrelevant participant in the workforce for the youth that will be adults in the 2030s, 2040s, and on. Being interested and staying up to date on current events in technology and computing allows me to stay on top of the programming trends and be able to differentiate between the up and coming technologies and skills versus the ones that are becoming complacent and replaced. I'm excited for the opportunity to help bring the knowledge and skills I've learned to youth in order to better equip them to become strong contributors when they reach adulthood. Let's get started!

I have always been a reflective person, so when it comes to teaching I am one who reflects often, thoughtfully, and intuitively. I believe that when working with student it is essential to help each student become reflective and metacognitive about their own learning. If students are reflective in their learning process they will be able to advocate what they need to continue learning, they will be able to understand how to seek out knowledge, and they will become life-long learners as a result.
I'm a recent graduate of Georgia State University, with a degree in Business Administration. Math has always been my favorite subject, especially Algebra because of the understanding of formulas and how they work and relate to the world around us. I'm a believer in allowing the student to work through the problem so I can observe the way the student approaches a problem, then we move forward from there. I allow the student to make mistakes in the process, so we can reconstruct that process to tackle the problem. Mistakes are the passageway to success in my books, so let me help your student become confident in his/her abilities! Outside of work, I love dance, music, and adventuring outdoors.
