I am a graduate of Marist College where I received a Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science. Throughout my undergraduate I enjoyed taking various humanities classes, from Art History to Political theory. However, my passion for literature led me to pursue a Master's in English at the University of East Anglia where I specialized in modern and contemporary writing. As an avid writer I love supporting students on all areas of the essay-writing process, from reading and analyzing a text to crafting a thesis statement. Putting pen to paper can be a daunting task I struggled writing my own college application essays. Thus, I believe in focusing on helping students gain confidence in their own abilities. My name is Mark. I have been married to my high school love for seventeen years and we have three amazing boys, Jaxson (16 years old, Madden 12 years old and Jayce 8 years old).I have a passion for instilling the ideals of confidence in a learner. I have over 15 years of educational experience, with a very diverse background. Starting my educational career in New York (working the private and public education sectors in both general and special education) and moving to Georgia teaching high and middle school math and social studies, and preparing for administrative roles and responsibilities has made me more equipped to serve students for success.My teaching methods are geared towards twenty-first century learning methods (webquests, on-line/virtual learning, blogging, podcasts, etc) and learning strategies (reading and vocabulary). I am a graduate of New York University having obtained my Masters in Social Work. I have an undergraduate degree from Marist College having received my bachelors in Social Work and a minor in Italian language. Since graduation I obtained my License as a Licensed Masters Social Worker, which enables me to provide clinical services and have a more competent background in the field. I have been working within victim services, crisis programs, behavioral health and the child welfare system as a clinician providing therapeutic services to all ages and populations. My background consists of macro and micro work and have been able to provide support and tutoring to those in graduate/undergraduate programs, and those seeking out to take the licensing exams. I am currently in motion to taking my next licensing exam and am super excited! In the past I was apart of a tutor/mentorship program providing assistance to underserved school districts. I am also passionate and fluent in the Italian language, given my upbringing. I have over ten years of teaching and tutoring experience, including one year teaching ESL at a Kindergarten in Chiang Mai, Thailand, three years teaching ESL at a cram school for students in elementary, middle, and high school in Taipei, Taiwan, and two years teaching creative writing to undergraduates at the University of Notre Dame. As someone who has studied Mandarin Chinese for three years, I understand the difficulty of acquiring a new language and the importance of immersion in the language as opposed to rote memorization of vocabulary words. Hi, I am a Biomedical Science major who will be starting NYU College of Dental Medicine in the fall. I first started tutoring in college and have continued to do so. My favorite subjects to tutor are Biology and Math. I enjoy tutoring because I am able to share my knowledge with students to help them succeed.
