I believe that every student has the ability to learn if we can figure out how to best meet their needs. No one is perfect, but practice and patience will help us get closer.I am a 26 year old graduate from Hunter College with a Masters degree in Childhood Education with certification to teach the blind and visually impaired. I also received my Bachelors degree in Psychology from Marist College.
I am a graduate of Marist College where I received a Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science. Throughout my undergraduate I enjoyed taking various humanities classes, from Art History to Political theory. However, my passion for literature led me to pursue a Master's in English at the University of East Anglia where I specialized in modern and contemporary writing. As an avid writer I love supporting students on all areas of the essay-writing process, from reading and analyzing a text to crafting a thesis statement. Putting pen to paper can be a daunting task I struggled writing my own college application essays. Thus, I believe in focusing on helping students gain confidence in their own abilities. Overall, I enjoy trouble-shooting essays questions, helping students think critically about texts, and offering study tips on subjects ranging from History to Philosophy.
I have degrees in both Finance/Economics and have been working in market-orientedroles for the past 4 years. My most relevant experience is as an equity trader, where I was responsible for executing various equity and equity derivative products on behalf ofhedge funds. Part of my background includes analyzing market trends, managingportfolio risk, and developing optimal trading strategies from both a fundamental andtechnical perspective. In addition to my professional experience, I am highly analytical, detail-oriented, and have a strong product knowledge through my CFA candidacy and academic pursuits. I am excited to continue my learning and provide some of the knowledge I've gained throughout my career.
My name is Mark. I have been married to my high school love for seventeen years and we have three amazing boys, Jaxson (16 years old, Madden 12 years old and Jayce 8 years old).I have a passion for instilling the ideals of confidence in a learner. I have over 15 years of educational experience, with a very diverse background. Starting my educational career in New York (working the private and public education sectors in both general and special education) and moving to Georgia teaching high and middle school math and social studies, and preparing for administrative roles and responsibilities has made me more equipped to serve students for success. My teaching methods are geared towards twenty-first century learning methods (webquests, on-line/virtual learning, blogging, podcasts, etc) and learning strategies (reading and vocabulary). I connect to the student and build positive relationships. I relate the material to daily life. Most importantly, I try my best for students to have fun and make learning enjoyable and a positive experience.
I have a BS from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Interdisciplinary Science and an MS from Marist College in Information Systems, both in New York. I also have a Six Sigma Green Belt and am a Microsoft Certified Professional. In addition to my work in IT I have taught at both the high school and college level. I've taught and tutored several levels of math and computer science. My mother was a teacher and so the importance of a good education was imprinted upon me at an early age. I believe that the role of a teacher or tutor is to help guide the student to discover the answers for themselves. It's not the easiest path but it's the best.Currently between IT assignments, I enjoy trivia games, movies, TV animation (South Park, Simpsons) and spending time with my new girlfriend.
I am a graduate of New York University having obtained my Masters in Social Work. I have an undergraduate degree from Marist College having received my bachelors in Social Work and a minor in Italian language. Since graduation I obtained my License as a Licensed Masters Social Worker, which enables me to provide clinical services and have a more competent background in the field. I have been working within victim services, crisis programs, behavioral health and the child welfare system as a clinician providing therapeutic services to all ages and populations. My background consists of macro and micro work and have been able to provide support and tutoring to those in graduate/undergraduate programs, and those seeking out to take the licensing exams. I am currently in motion to taking my next licensing exam and am super excited! In the past I was apart of a tutor/mentorship program providing assistance to underserved school districts. I am also passionate and fluent in the Italian language, given my upbringing. I have always enjoyed incorporating those who want to learn the language, or need any assistance in learning, with the most inclusive and collaborative process. I believe all are deserving of a learning process that is individualized and strengths based, the approach I take, and want to provide to those who are seeking it out based upon what I can offer. In my spare time I enjoy exercising, going to the beach, cooking, and watching baseball!
I love working with students in algebra, calculus, and general chemistry. When it comes to math and sciences, I believe there are many ways to get the right answer. Thus, I always try to see and explain things from the student's viewpoint(s) and use his/her own reasoning methods instead of mine.I earned my Bachelor of Science's degree in Applied Mathematics with a concentration in Chemistry from Marist College. Numbers and formulas have always been my passion and refuge. I love solving problems. Most importantly, I love knowing and explaining the why and how of every problem and concept. I look forward to working and sharing my passion for math and chemistry with you.

I have over ten years of teaching and tutoring experience, including one year teaching ESL at a Kindergarten in Chiang Mai, Thailand, three years teaching ESL at a cram school for students in elementary, middle, and high school in Taipei, Taiwan, and two years teaching creative writing to undergraduates at the University of Notre Dame. As someone who has studied Mandarin Chinese for three years, I understand the difficulty of acquiring a new language and the importance of immersion in the language as opposed to rote memorization of vocabulary words. I also believe that presenting arguments in a clear, well-structured, organized manner will improve any essay, regardless of the subject.
Michael J. Fox has famously taken the words of Ignacio Estrada and made them a personal slogan of sorts "If a child can't learn the way we teach. maybe we should teach the way they learn" This is my personal mission as an educator, to always find the best way to reach students and ensure that they become life long learners.
