I have a master's degree in physics with research emphasis in astrophysics from San Francisco State University. I received my Bachelor of Science in physics and astronomy with a minor in math. Currently I am an adjunct instructor at Mesa Community College teaching astrophysics courses. I have four years of teaching experience in astronomy and physics lab courses at San Francisco State University. I acquired excellent teaching skills while I was a graduate student at San Francisco State University for which I even received an honor of outstanding physics teaching assistant from San Francisco State University. I was also a math instructor for a Summer Bridge program at San Francisco state University where my responsibility was to teach first year college algebra. I have tutored kids in the age group of 8 to 15 in the subject areas of science and math. I tutor math (calculus, differential equations, algebra, geometry and trigonometry) and science courses (physics, astrophysics, planetary science). I enjoy teaching in general and am passionate about math, physics and astronomy. I firmly believe that education is one of the most important tools in shaping a child's life and I would love to be a part of that process. In my past experience I have noticed many students struggle with subjects like math and physics and my goal is to try to make it a fun experience for them. In my spare time I enjoy reading books, biking, hiking , running and snow boarding. During my graduate program I liked volunteering at our college observatory and I still like to take my telescope out occasionally for star gazing.

I knew I was a linguist at a young age. I loved to spell and learn the meanings of words in English but that developed to other languages too. Learning Spanish became not just an elective class that I had to take but it became a lifelong learning passion. Growing up in the southwest of the United States, I started learning Spanish at age 9 in the classroom; went on my first student exchange at 10; continued taking Spanish throughout high school and completed a minor in my undergraduate degree. I went on to serve in the Peace Corps in Ecuador and then returned to teach Spanish to high school students as a long-term substitute teacher. I enjoy speaking Spanish and tutoring others to grow to enjoy the language too.

"I don't just teach students what to learn but how to learn it."When I first heard the word philolexian, I realized that it is the best word I can use to describe myself. From the ancient Greek, it means "lover of discourse" which I also translate to mean "lover of learning." As a philolexian, I believe that I can learn just as much from my students as I can teach them. However, there is nothing that excites me more than to inspire and guide students on their path to academic success and achieving higher education.A little bit about my background. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Minnesota and my Masters in Education degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. My past research has focused on the psychology of student learning, study skills, peak performance, and career development. My current interest is focused on E learning and instructional design and it's role in higher education.I have been an English and Psychology college instructor and career specialist for over 15 years teaching courses and workshops for high schools, colleges, non profit and government organizations.Just keep in mind that if you really try and get the most out of tutoring, it will first blow your mind and then change your life forever! Also, there are NO stupid questions. I am looking forward to getting to know you.

I believe that all students are capable of learning any subject they pursue, and with this in mind, I genuinely want to cultivate this curiosity and watch students learn and grow. Throughout my high school tenure, I worked with a variety of age groups, ranging from 9 to 19 on various subjects, attempting to help expand their understanding in a fun and meaningful manner. I have always appreciated the hardworking nature of students, and come to learn that if you can teach a student right, they will always be willing to learn any subject regardless of difficulty. As an engineering student at Northern Arizona University, I am qualified and skilled in mathematics ranging from Algebra to Calculus, as well as both creative and non-creative writing styles which grant a major proficiency in English grammar, syntax, and diction. Also, considering my background as a military dependent, I have lived overseas in Japan, which have granted me an extensive knowledge of Japanese culture and customs, including a conversational understanding of the language and its utility. Japanese and English are my favorite subjects to study by far, as language is a hobby I enjoy, but I always have fun in any subject when the student and I can enjoy and appreciate the session as a whole. On that note, I have always prided my philosophy when it comes to teaching, as I believe every individual has their own strengths and weaknesses of acquiring and remembering information. I believe that identifying these aspects of a student's mindset and using them to "rewire" the way they process information can have a lasting impact on how they perceive learning altogether. Outside of academics, I really enjoy Pokemon, art, and hiking!

I graduated from Northern Arizona University with Bachelor's Degrees in Physics and Astronomy. Mathematics is an important part of both fields and my strong suit. Consequently, I have a minor in Mathematics that I have applied to my work on endless occasions. My math background encompasses basic subjects like algebra, geometry, and calculus up through advanced subjects such as linear algebra, multivariable calculus, differential equations, and advanced geometry. During my senior year I received a NASA Space Grant and began research with the U.S. Geological Survey Astrogeology Research Center in Flagstaff, AZ. This project eventually became my Master's Thesis.I graduated a second time from Northern Arizona University with a Master's Degree in Applied Physics. My research emphasis was planetary science, which allowed me to become very involved with the U.S.G.S. My planetary studies required me to not only focus on the physics of planets, but also on their geology. As such, I have a broad range of academic backgrounds, including astronomy, astrobiology, field geology, and geomorphology. I've even assisted in research at the Sudbury Impact Structure in Ontario, Canada and attended numerous scientific conferences.During my graduate studies I taught three different lab courses: Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, and Life in the Universe. These were intended for non-physics-major students, so I have had extensive practice in bringing even the most advanced concepts down to a level that any student can understand. The lab courses were also relatively small (between 10 and 20 students). The small class sizes allowed me to learn to teach with hands-on methods as well as lecture-style methods, many times in a one-on-one setting.I love to teach, plain and simple. To witness a student truly understand a concept is very rewarding for both the student and the teacher. They say knowledge is power. Then to understand the universe (even just a small fraction of it) is power, indeed. SCIENCE!!!

I was born in The Netherlands and have lived on the West Coast (CA and AZ) since the age of 7. I attended Northern Arizona University and obtained a BS in Sociology and a BA in French in 2013. My junior year of college, I had the amazing opportunity to study sociology in Montpellier, France. During college, I always stayed involved in with volunteer organizations and have worked with everything from building trails in the wild forests of Utah to befriending home-bound seniors get around easier. In life, I always try to surround myself with different people and environments. After working in a retirement home for a year, I decided to join Teach for America and began teaching in rural Eastern North Carolina. I had the pleasure of teaching second grade for two years. The students had skill levels and interests of all kinds, and I truly learned how to adapt and facilitate. Although we were an underfunded district in a low-income rural area, we created a classroom centered around exploration and diligence. By the end of the year, students were telling me things about the world that I didn't know! The best moment is when a student figures or learns something on their own because of the tools you have given them. That's what makes me excited about tutoring one-on-one in New York City.I enjoy tutoring elementary subjects because they can be done in very creative and engaging ways. Even math can be drawn, sung or painted. My sessions will strive to create real connections and interactions with the content.I can also tutor in French for all ages.Outside of tutoring, I am working on an educational app that would coach parents on how to help their students with academic vocabulary. I also enjoy music, art, biking, hiking, traveling and exploring coffee shops.

I currently teach psychology and statistics at Glendale Community College and plan to teach other courses there in the future. I am very excited on the first day of every semester to meet my new students! It is my goal to make all the material relevant and interesting. I want my students to be as excited as me to learn each and every class. While I currently teach college students professionally, I still really enjoy tutoring younger students. I have worked with students from kindergarten all the way to 12th grade, teaching math, computers, English, and Spanish. My father loved camping and the out of doors and so some of my earliest memories are of camping in the mountains of Northern New Mexico. As a family, we took extended trips through the western United States, Canada and Alaska, towing a travel trailer and camping in mostly primitive camps. As a young teen, I started backpacking in the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado and developed a great love for the mountain and canyon country of the west. It was this great love of nature that attracted me to science--first as a Forestry major at Northern Arizona University but which eventually evolved to the study of chemistry, as that seemed to me the basic science that was as the heart of understanding nature. While my love of learning was probably instilled in me very early in my life (thanks to my parents, I was an avid reader), it really came out while in college. In finishing my chemistry degree, I realized I was just beginning to learn what I wanted to learn and went on to graduate school to get a PhD studying Physical Chemistry at Purdue University.I am now retired from full time teaching, but not from my love of learning (nor my love of the mountains) which has continually evolved. My experiences of teaching science from demonstrations in elementary school to graduate level courses have given me a great interest in the teaching of science to the general public and sharing with others, that same awe, wonder and appreciation I have."To become educated is to become more human."

I am originally from Lebanon and came to the United States to fulfill my dreams. I am fluent in three languages: Arabic, French and English. I have a chemistry degree and a minor in biology from Northern Arizona University. Throughout my undergraduate degree, I was very blessed excelling in my classes and I had the privilege tutoring for the Multicultural Engineering program at Northern Arizona University. I helped a lot of engineering students succeeding in their math, physics, and biology and chemistry subjects. I had as well private sessions for students and professors who had the desire to learn French and Arabic.Besides tutoring, I experienced the art of research in three different laboratories in Northern Arizona University and in Baylor College of medicine: the Biophysics Laboratory, the Microbial and Genomic Laboratory and the Cell Biology Laboratory. I enjoyed designing experiments and working on different instruments. The link between theory and practice, the methodical laboratory preparations, and the tangible results of successful experiments, all seemed to strengthen and solidify my tutoring skills in science.I believe “The purpose of education is to replace an empty mind with an open one” (Malcolm S. I am here to help. Learning and taking tests can be stressful. Some students benefit seeing the structure of how prior learning relate to the current ideas. Others approach learning in much less linear fashion. Getting to know the student and their learning style can reduce their frustration. I am currently a college student working towards my bachelors degree alongside an accelerated masters. I like helping people in general but I also try to explain things in as many different ways as I can so that people can understand. I like when people ask questions no matter what they are because thats exactly how I learn too. I also like messing around and trying not to keep the learning environment too serious so people can have fun learning. In terms of my education I currently have 2 associates degrees that I earned from Palomar with emphasis in science and math. I'm currently working towards my bachelors in computer engineering, and am also taking an electrical engineering accelerated masters at the same time. I've been a tutor for 4 years now in math related subjects, I feel pretty comfortable with all math subjects and if I forget anything I just need a quick refresher and I'll be able to do it again. Other than that though I don't really have a favorite math subject to tutor and honestly for me it's the students themselves that make it fun. I like being able to mess around with them while making things more understandable since I feel that would make the material stick a bit easier.

During my undergraduate years, I tended to hang out with the math crowd, despite my status as a physics major. I joined math club at my university (NAU) and enjoyed subjects within math. Even today I will choose to read mathematics material over topics in science, which is a switch from my younger years. However, physics was the start of my passion for mathematics, and I hope share this sense of awe with you, or anyone I am teaching/assisting. I have been fortunate to have been given the opportunity to teach a calculus class, for two years, and every part of it has been rewarding. And for the past two consecutive summers the University of Arizona has given me the chance to connect with my science roots and conduct some cutting-edge optics research.

I had the privilege of attending Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff in order to obtain my Master's degree in Psychology, with an emphasis in teaching. During the past two years, I have spent time developing my teaching and tutoring skills. I have taught several college courses and loved every minute of it. I was also able to spend two years as a private tutor, providing one-on-one assistance with writing and test taking preparation for a college student in Psychology. I am also my little sister???s unofficial Spanish tutor ??? she is a high school student currently taking Spanish 2. She likes the extra help from time to time, and I love practicing my Spanish (as well as the valuable time I get to spend with my sister!).As a tutor, I am professional yet approachable and easy to talk to. I think it is important to be able to have a level of comfort in a tutoring relationship, and in this way learning thrives. My tutoring philosophy consists of two major elements: Communication and productivity. It is important to me that the student is able to express his or her thoughts freely, and that each session is enjoyable. Sessions should also be productive ??? each meeting is worthwhile and things get done. To optimize learning, the student should play an active role in the learning process. This enhances learning by allowing the students themselves the opportunity to strengthen the connections in the brain that produce learning. When I am not perfecting my tutoring skills, I find myself involved in music in some way. I play the drums and have been playing for ten years. I also like to play the piano, guitar, or any instrument I can get my hands on. Music is a big part of who I am. I would be happy to recommend Spanish musicians to any Spanish-learning students who share a love of music as well!I best like spending my time talking and getting to know people ??? every person in this world has something unique and interesting to offer. Tutoring is a wonderful opportunity to do just that!

In social studies, I teach history (U.S. or World), Civics and Geography. I also tutor all the subjects mentioned, and have also taught religious studies.I enjoy tutoring most age and age groups, especially fourth grade through high school.I must also mention I work a great deal in developing the writing skills of my students, especially involving the use of the Six Traits of Writing. In tutoring, I work with a student's most effective style of learning. Anything can be learned if it reaches a student through their best learning modality. I know from experience anyone can and does learn. It is simply a matter of finding your own style, and I can help in that area. Oftentimes, clients choose a tutor because they share a similar hobby. In my spare time, I enjoy living history as a reenactor, especially with the American Civil War. I am also an avid reader, focusing on history and short story fiction. I am also a huge Disneyland fan. Finally, I enjoy most competitive sports, including baseball, basketball, football, and ice hockey (which I have played).

I'm a recent graduate of Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Law. I had a minor in communication, and graduated summa cum laude from the Honors College. While in college, I was President of our Mock Trial Club, which required me to educate new members about the nuances of trial advocacy (such as broader procedure, criminal and tort law, and my favorite: rules of evidence). Before embarking on my pre-law journey, I was always a musician, and I remain one at heart. I'm a percussionist, and I've played anywhere from the Arizona All-State Band to casual rock bands with my friends. Regardless of the context, music primed me to see the art in everything that I do. It has influenced the way I live my life, the way I think, and now the way I teach. As captain of my high school drum line, I discovered that different people learn in vastly different ways, and it's entirely the instructor's responsibility to adapt to that. Failure to understand a concept reflects on the teacher rather than the student, and I now know this quite well having led several competitive teams, I rely on the students who I teach. As an LSAT instructor, it's my responsibility to adapt to your learning habits and ensure a deeper understanding. What's more: I take what I do seriously when you hire me, your LSAT success is my mission.I can surely get excited and ramble about music or about mock trial, but the same could be said of the LSAT! I truly had a great time preparing for and taking the test, and I'm here to ensure that you get the same experience. I'm looking forward to working with you!

I have experience working with a diverse range of students and can adapt to the needs of each unique learner. I aim to provide one-on-one individualized lessons for each client. For the last year, I have been working as a teaching assistant to an honors faculty member at Arizona State University (ASU). As a teaching assistant, I prepare class materials, perform lectures, grade written assignments of at least 120 students per semester, and individually tutor undergraduate students in overcoming academic difficulties. My goal is to instill a passion of lifelong learning and to teach critical thinking to every one of my students as I believe these are driving factors in students' success both personally and professionally.I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude with my Masters in Social Work and am working on a Masters in Public Administration at ASU. These programs have sharpened my study skills, essay writing, reading comprehension, public speaking and critical thinking abilities. In turn, I am able to tutor students in developing these important skills. While in school, I also worked as a Constituent Services Coordinator for Congresswoman Sinema which required me to develop excellent organizational and time-management skills that I am excited to pass on to my students!I have been trained in direct behavioral health assessment and treatment, as well as in communication studies, developing and presenting curriculum, public budgeting, human resource management, program evaluation, policy analysis, advocacy and much more! My diverse academic and employment history has afforded me the opportunity to work with individuals from all ages and skill levels. I look forward to providing quality tutoring to learners on a full range of subjects including test preparation, and am happy to accommodate my clients by having a very flexible schedule!

I've a passion for language, literature, culture and travel. Continuing to learn as I teach is vital to me and tutoring affords me the fantastic opportunity of sharing my knowledge, experience and enthusiasm. I got my English degree from Northern Arizona University where I was also an athletic trainer. While my love is admittedly poetry and literature, I am also a science geek and medicine called to me before teaching did. My TEFL with an IELTS certification allowed me to live and teach in Indonesia for almost three years. I taught a wide age range of students both in person then online extensively (as most of found ourselves in early 2020 and then too long after that). Being a curious bird by nature, I found the cultures and languages of Southeast Asia to be captivating. I asked as many questions of my students as they did of me and that helped us relate and work together. Some of my proudest times there (and when I returned home teaching online and in class) were when I would have students with those aha! I get it, I can do it ! breakthroughs. I am currently learning Spanish ( again) and definitely appreciate those forehead smacking aha! moments for myself, as well. For my IELTS and TOEFL students, we started from where they were and built on strengths while working on the tough stuff, primarily writing. I truly believe that listening to students is key for success for both parties. Continual communication is extremely important. Humor and having fun while learning is not only possible but necessary for me and is the way I prefer to teach and tutor. I have found that mistakes will and must be made to move forward, and keeping it light while still putting in the work helps immensely.

I graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary English Education. I took additional classes in Journalism and ELL. While in college, I tutored high school students after school for a college program. I was fortunate enough to complete my student teaching in Bamberg, Germany working on the army base teaching 7th, 8th and 10th grade Language Arts. After I finished my student teaching, I came back to my home state of Arizona and began teaching in the west Phoenix area. I have been teaching at my current school for three years. I taught 8th grade my first year and this is my second year of teaching 7th grade Language Arts. I really enjoy working with all the quirkiness that comes with middle school. I have been reading apprenticeship trained, which focuses on students discovering the answers through annotation of a text and meta-cognition. This year, my school has adopted the Engage New York curriculum, so I am familiar with some of the struggles that arise from the new common core. I am very familiar with writing a successful piece of writing through my school curriculum and this year we are working on incorporating ideas from a text into writing. Currently, I am training to run a marathon with one of my fellow Teachers in February. I also enjoy relaxing with a good book or movie, crafting ideas from Pinterest, and traveling.

Hello! Nice to meet you! My name is Alisha E. Teaching is my passion! When I see the looks on my students faces when they achieve academic success it makes me so proud! I am very much a people person which helps me reach all the students I teach, whether adult or child.I am an Arizona Certified teacher with a valid fingerprint clearance card. I grew up and went to high school in the Philadelphia area and then attended the University of Arizona where I earned a degree in Political Science. I earned my Master's degree in Education Leadership and Administration at Northern Arizona University. After spending 11 years teaching in Paradise Valley Unified School District, it was time for a change so now I am now a full time tutor. My experience as a teacher was not solely in the classroom. I have spent 10 years tutoring home bound students for the school district in a wide range of subjects, but focused mainly on math. (I tutor up through Algebra 3-4 and Geometry. I can tutor most subjects through the high school level aside from foreign languages and sciences.) In addition as a teacher, I was a leader on my campus as part of our leadership team and Student Council Adviser. My philosophy as a tutor is to work with the student one on one and to connect with him or her. As a middle school teacher, by doing this, I was the fun, popular teacher on campus. My performance evaluations say that, and I have thousands of former students who would say that as well, but most importantly I get results!I would love to help you out! Contact me now so I can help YOU achieve SUCCESS!Sincerely,Alisha E., M.Ed.
