Although I have master's degrees in voice and also teach violin and beginner guitar, music is not my only language. I can help you with writing, editing, public speaking, or remembering material for a test. I have taught English language arts for three years and specialize in grammar and writing. I can tutor any elementary subject and most middle school subjects. In my third year of college I learned study, comprehension, and memorizing skills that I wished I had been taught in first grade! I hold a bachelor's and master's in art history, with a concentration in early modern European art. I attended THE Ohio State University for my undergraduate degree, and attended Southern Methodist University for my master's. During my time as a master's student, I was a teaching assistant to four different undergraduate art history courses, and spent a significant amount of time teaching, grading, and holding office hours with my students. To simply put my tutoring style: I am a lover of learning. Learning new things myself, and helping others to learn, are life-affirming experiences for me. Knowledge is joyful, and powerful! I want my students to walk away from our sessions feeling similarly.I have begun tutoring for those studying the LSAT and would love to continue to take on LSAT learners. Contrary to what you have learned from major LSAT teaching companies, the LSAT is simple and straightforward: there is one correct answer, and four wrong ones. Slow reading and a careful approach to understanding every stimulus are keys to LSAT success, and I want to help you get there! After beginning at a 154, I have practiced into the 170's, and am still taking the LSAT myself to have that reflected in my actual score.I would also love to spend some of my time with my LSAT students on their admissions applications. I have received a full ride, or more, in scholarships for each degree I have received, and I can help you achieve that same financial success with your law school application. I hope to hear from you and can't wait to help you on your law school journey!

I recently graduated from Relay School of Education with a master's degree in early childhood education. While studying at Relay, I worked at a charter school in Colorado, teaching lower elementary students. In Colorado, I taught many subjects, but I am most passionate about helping students learn how to read and understand basic math. I have seen the difference small group instruction can make on a student's academic performance and overall attitude towards school. School should be a place you are excited to go to, and sometimes if you struggle in a subject, it can taint the whole experience. I want to foster a love for learning by helping students feel confident in their abilities to read, write, and solve math equations.

Greetings! I am an attorney / Sociology instructor who has a passion and love for both subjects. I attained my M.S. in Applied Sociology in 2006 and began teaching at Collin College the same year. I just finished my 15th year with the school as a part-time adjunct professor and I look forward to year 16! I went to law school later than the traditional student, but I was in a job that brought me no joy or sense of accomplishment, and I wanted something more fulfilling than a paycheck, so I went to law school at age 37. I was fortunate to score well on the LSAT and get a partial scholarship to SMU Dedman School of Law. I received my J.D. two months after my 40th birthday and have been practicing for 8 years. It has been the best 8 years of my life! I currently have my own practice that focuses on CPS, mental health, and juvenile cases, but also am of counsel with a mid-size law firm as their Estate Planning and Probate attorney. I really enjoy staying busy and working with new attorneys and mentoring law school students. I think tutoring is a perfect extension of all the things I love about my job and life and I hope I can help students who are struggling with the materials so they can be successful in their academic and professional lives. I look forward to working with you!

My objective as a tutor is to deliver maximum life-long values: conceptual understanding, a rekindled love for learning, confidence, genuine self-esteem, and friendship. I deliver these by focusing on conceptual understanding. Most difficulties with the current materials come from not having mastered the earlier concepts or skills. I locate these earlier misunderstandings by asking questions like, "Walk me through this problem and explain your thought process" or "How are you thinking about this problem?" It's normal to get confused responses to these questions, but whatever response is offered, I can dig deeper by asking additional questions. Upon finding underlying areas that are not understood, I deliver focused learning experiences designed to quickly, easily, and enjoyably bring about conceptual understanding. I can off these kinds of mini-lessons immediately and without additional preparation because I myself have conceptual mastery of nearly the entire math and physics curricula from elementary through the first 4 years of college. When I am not tutoring: I am seeking employment in the medical device and aerospace industries as a Quality Engineer or Reliability Engineer, creating heart and mind expanding experiences for my wife and daughters, supporting my daughter's acting career and rigorous talent development programs, reading for learning or pleasure, authoring heart and mind expanding books, engaging in aggressive personal development, exploring the fullness of what life has to offer, laughing, learning, and creating values for the world.

I am a Junior at Southern Methodist University. I am majoring in Applied Mathematics and minoring in both Creative Computation and Computer Science. I have a lot of experience tutoring. For the duration of my spring semester of my sophomore year, I tutored at a low-income public school on the western side of Dallas. I made sure the students understood by making them feel comfortable with not understanding a concept. By establishing this comfort, I was able to get honest responses when a topic or idea was not understood. My favorite subjects to teach are upper level maths, because you can build on understanding by deriving the formulas needed. Outside of school, I like to work out, code, and read.

I am currently entering my fourth year at Southern Methodist University where I am studying to attain a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a minor in Spanish. I have learned from professors who are professionals in their fields and many of which have had great impacts on the field of Economics. I spent the summer of 2014 living with a Spanish family in Madrid and taking classes as part of SMU's Advanced Spanish program in Madrid. I tutor a wide range of Math levels as well as Economics and Spanish. Through my experience as a student who used tutors in the past, I learned that the key to strengthening one's abilities in any subject is through practice and repetition. For this reason, my lessons emphasize the need for the students to engage themselves in order to take what they have learned in school, in the tutoring sessions, and on their own to successfully strengthen their knowledge. This will be accomplished through a lot of practice (problems, questions, grammar, vocabulary, etc) with guidance from me. In my free time, I enjoy watching and playing sports, cooking, traveling, reading, and yoga.

Growing up, I never had the dream of teaching. I simply was in love with being a learner and a student of life. As I learned, I grew into the idea that knowledge contained power, if I only I could understand and apply it appropriately. This was largely in part to having instructors who taught me that the value of education was much deeper than receiving a piece of paper or a good career. They taught me that the value of education was being able to understand life as we know it and being able to transform it through the power of our mind and the information we put in it. As I participated in the process of learning this way, I fell in love with the experience and desired to replicate it as much as possible. As I continued to learn, I naturally began to teach. While I have always been one to share what I know when helpful and relevant, I didn't start working in an actual teaching capacity until I was a sophomore in college. It was then that I became an in-classroom tutor for the Little Rock School District in Little Rock, Arkansas for a program called AVID. AVID stands for Advancement via Individual Determination and was largely aimed at offering students from disadvantaged backgrounds extra skills in studying, life skills and college preparation. I thoroughly enjoyed the holistic learning that was built into the model. I worked with students who had unique stories that revolved around living urban life. Many of them had no interest in school because they had real life problems at home. So, in one of our sessions together, I learned what their favorite songs were, pulled up the lyrics, projected them onto the screen and we learned the different styles of poetry that were written into the music they loved. This is an example of how learning can be applied in such a way that even education about rhetoric is transformative. After this, I went into substitute teaching where I was afforded the luxury of working with students on every grade level. While pursuing my masters degree at Southern Methodist University, I became a youth pastor and continued teaching ages 12-17 but this time about Christianity instead of public school curriculum. Bible study that was completely faith based before had become universally objective. I was not teaching the youth reasons why they should subscribe to Christianity. Instead, they were learning about how the teachings of Christianity have, will and can show up in our lives and the varying ways to view those teachings in light of history. Upon graduating, I became an adjunct instructor in humanities at Philander Smith College teaching courses in religion. It was here that my degree in English became critical as it was necessary to help many of my students in their writing.Writing is extremely vital. What we can produce from it has the capacity to allow us and our ideas to live forever. All of us have something inside of us worth sharing with the world. I enjoy helping my students find and cultivate the voice theyd like to say it with. It is important when working with people in general to establish positive relationships where we can accomplish our goals as our authentic selves. With my students, this means getting to know their learning styles and interests so I know best how to approach working with them. The range of studies I have been able to teach has afforded me to work with many different types of students. They have all different faculties and capabilities; No two students are alike. It is important to me to be aware of who I am working with so that I can reach each student equitably. As I continue to teach, my goal is continue creating experiences for students that transform and grow the value of education. My approach is to never tell a student what to think but to work with them in cultivating how they think and ensuring that their thinking is both critical and sound. By meeting students where they are, helping them digest and apply the information they learn, I can help them go where their goals can be reached.

Since completion of my post-doctoral fellowship, I taught for five years in the Department of Anthropology at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) where I developed a graduate program in Global Health. While at CWRU, I developed and was funded for four research projects, two integrating anthropological and epidemiological methods to study HIV transmission among Baganda women and men in Uganda; and two ascertaining the social, cultural, and behavioral determinants of diarrheal disease in children in Nepal and Nigeria. After my fifth year at CWRU, I was offered a position as a Research Associate at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health where I served as Senior Technical Advisor in Population and Health at the United States Agency for International Development in the Office of Women in Development. I then was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship in Urban Health and HIV Prevention at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the Department of Psychology, in the Division of Community Psychology. During this post-doctoral fellowship, I gained knowledge of HIV transmission in the United States and also served as a Visiting Research Scientist in the Department of Epidemiology at the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois in Chicago.I then moved to Mississippi where I served as Director of a Condom Social Marketing Program among African American crack cocaine users in Jackson, Mississippi.I returned to the Washington, D.C. area to obtain my Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Georgetown University. I currently am a Registered Nurse in the state of Pennsylvania. Following receipt of my nursing degree, I accepted a position as a Grants Officer and Senior Technical Writer in the Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities at the National Institutes of Health. In 2012, I began teaching at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, in both the Department of Anthropology and the Department of Sociology. I taught Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences (an introductory statistics course) eight times for the Department of Sociology, and I taught Social Statistics three times during this period. (2012-2020).In the spring of 2020, I moved my base of operations to the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP), where I taught predominantly African American students who are graduates of Philadelphia public high schools. I have taught Introduction to Anthropology (a four-field approach), Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, and African Peoples and Cultures. I am slated to teach Introduction to Cultural Anthropology in the fall semester of 2021 at CCP, and Global Health at La Salle University. My favorite aspect of teaching at CCP is the individual tutoring I do over Zoom with individual students. I work closely with them to improve their writing style and to critically analyze what they read in each course that I teach. I feel that education should be transformative, and I work diligently to make this process happen both in class and when I undertake individual tutoring.I tutor in a broad range of subjects (statistics, the social sciences, public health and global health, cultural anthropology, medical anthropology, and SAT/GRE preparation (specifically in the verbal ability and writing sections), I am most passionate about tutoring in statistics and public health/global health.I want to help students learn the quantitative reasoning skills and critical analysis skills which will be needed when they graduate and enter the workplace.I love teaching and imparting the excitement I feel about the courses I both teach and tutor in. I edit manuscripts for students and teach them the skills of self-editing their own work.Education is my life's work. I love to teach students in high school, community college, undergraduates in universities, and graduate students who are pursing their Masters or Ph.D.

I am passionate about the subject of History and, more importantly, working with students to not only understand the amazing stories, resonating themes and key events but also how studying History helps to develop communication and critical analysis skills - both of which are more in demand than ever in the professional and academic worlds.
