I am a graduate of Stony Brook University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a focus on the sciences as I followed a pre-dental course track. Since graduation, I have applied to and been accepted to the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine, which I will be attending starting in August. I had previously been an SAT tutor with a test prep company for two years and I have experience in tutoring college level Physics at my University. As a result of my work experience and college education, I am proficient in all the SAT sections, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, general Essay Writing, Biochemistry, and Psychology. I personally enjoy tutoring SAT Critical Reading and Physics the most. To me, language is beautiful and I love exploring and discussing the mechanics of analyzing literature (as students must do on the Critical Reading Section). Physics, on the other hand, explains many of the wondrous everyday phenomenon around us. As a child, I would often think about why things moved the way they did and physics gave me those answers. I enjoy traveling and have been to several US states, Egypt several times, Australia, Italy, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Some of my most memorable experiences include scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef and sky diving. I speak Arabic semi-fluently and I enjoy reading and training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and kickboxing. Overall, I am very approachable and patient and will do my best to serve you as a tutor!

I am an experienced math tutor and have tutored all math levels from pre-algebra to multivariable calculus/differential equations. I served as the mathematics tutor for my undergraduate university's college of engineering where I worked with college students on achieving success in their courses. My teaching philosophy is that anyone can learn and achieve mastery in math, we just have to figure out what the best way to break down concepts is and simplify steps as much as possible. There are many, many ways to approach math problems, the trick is finding the one that makes to most sense to each individual. I hold a double bachelors degree in Applied Mathematics and Economics from Stony Brook University and am working on my PhD in Economics.

I received my degree in Business Management from Stony Brook University in 2013. I started tutoring friends and classmates throughout middle and high school, as well as student taught math classes after finishing the curriculum early and excelling on the Regents exams.I love tutoring in math and science, but also enjoy helping students understand context and better express their ideas in writing and history.I especially enjoy tutoring in math because it brings me great joy when a student masters a concept with which they were previously struggling.I also excel at helping students study and prepare for exams because I help them develop better study habits, as opposed to simply cramming to do well on a single exam.I have a passion to motivate students to achieve their full potential. More than raising test scores, I help each student gain more confidence in their own abilities and increase their proficiency in understanding with context, rather than simply memorizing facts or formulas. I adapt my teaching style to the particular needs of each student, with the objective of guiding students in becoming more capable overall, through practice in sharpening their strengths and overcoming their weaknesses. My hobbies include video games, snowboarding, singing/music, working out/exercise, and doing Tough Mudder! I love doing Tough Mudder because it is both individually challenging, as well as being very team-oriented. This allows me to personally challenge my own limits while also helping others to do the same!

My name is Nim. I graduated cum laude and departmental honors with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, and a minor in Writing & Rhetoric. In college, I realized that certain classes can be an obstacle for students as there are not enough of a friendly environment for them to express their concerns. For my tutoring approach, I first let students know that it is okay to make mistakes and that practice can help you improve progressively. I try to allow students express concerns they have regarding to the material presented from class and then we directly approach the lesson by having an understanding of what the student does or does not know. After the lesson, I would review the points that we learned and having a goal of students practicing material on their own. The method can be adjusted based on student's individual needs. I have a year experience in teaching organic chemistry and physical chemistry in college. I worked directly with any students who needed additional assistance, but also focus on one-on-one tutoring. These were the students who needed extra help, so I work with them during class to make sure they didn't fall behind and clarify questions they might have. I held review sessions in Organic Chemistry, where I choose questions to review and occasionally teach important points to understand in a topic. I want to benefit the students I work with as much as possible, therefore I welcome any feedback from the students can provide. I am easy to reach and will always provide fast responses. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson.

I am a recent graduate of Stony Brook University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Math and Statistics. Currently, I am studying for the FM and P exams in Actuarial Sciences. Mathematics has always been my strongest and most favorite subject. I was on the Math team for several years and participated in various regional Math competitions. I also have years of experience tutoring in formal and informal settings in a myriad of math subjects ranging from Algebra to Calculus IV.It is my passion to show students the beauty in math and disprove the many misconceptions of it being difficult and nonsensical, which I often find stems from poor communication between students and their teachers. As a tutor, I aim to rectify that problem with one-on-one sessions designed to tackle concepts from a different angle, that perhaps the teacher had overlooked. There is no better feeling to me than that moment of clarity when a student finally understands something they had been previously struggling with.Aside from math and studying, I also play guitar and write music in my spare time. Although many people probably would never think so, math and music are actually codependent, and one could not exist without the other. They are both natural occurrences, and I consider their relationship a unique form of art. My individual love for them both has given me a greater appreciation and understanding of them separately.

I got my bachelors at Washington University in St. Louis, double majoring in Environmental Earth Science and Germanic Language and Literature, and minoring in Writing. Currently I'm working towards my PhD in Marine Science at Stony Brook University (NY), doing research in the field of marine biogeochemistry. That's a bit of a mouthful, but basically it means I study the way living things interact with the chemistry of the ocean, and how that interaction gets recorded in mud and rock. Based on this expertise, I enjoy tutoring in general science, chemistry, and earth science.I also have a solid foundation in the language arts, having worked for three years as a Writing Mentor at Washington University in St. Louis. During this time, I was trained to help students with writing projects at any stage of the writing process, from brainstorming to line-editing. When I studied abroad in Germany for a year, I worked as a tutor for German students with English writing projects. This was a wonderful experience that allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of English academic writing by approaching it from a non-native perspective, while simultaneously improving my fluency in German, which I have studied for ten years. Following these experiences, I also enjoy tutoring in writing, English, German, and the Reading/Writing/Language sections of standardized tests (ACT, SAT, and GRE). My favorite subject to tutor is writing; I love to write myself, and there is nothing better than being able to help students develop confidence and enjoyment in their own writing. When I'm tutoring in any subject, my focus is not on the completion of a short-term task, like a specific assignment or test; rather, my goal is always to use the task at hand to help the student become a better reader, writer, learner, and thinker. Above all, I aim to teach the student to teach themselves; the ultimate accomplishment for me as a tutor is to no longer be needed. When I'm not teaching or doing research, I like to write stories, read science fiction books, play violin with the University Orchestra, and hang out with my two parakeets, Max and Pogo.

I have tutored students ranging from elementary school through college, but my favorite level to help students is high school. In my sessions I like to show students the reason behind everything. I believe if you know why you're doing something, you can more easily understand how to do it. When I have some free time I like to work on small engineering projects. My purpose gradually presented itself while investing copious amounts of hours into thinking, studying, and working with cadavers. An innate artistic ability not only allows me to captivate detail but also to refine the hand motor skills necessary to execute meticulous dissections of human specimens.I aspire to produce work that will outlive me and live by the statement of Ben Franklin, "Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing." My first experience with tutoring occurred while helping my family members in multiple math subjects. I then tutored algebra, geometry and physics at my local high school. My love for math and science, specifically chemistry, are driving me to become a chemical engineer. I hope that by showing younger generations real and useful applications of math and science they can become more excited about it. I'm a firm believer in positive attitudes being contagious and my main goal is to eradicate the negative stigma that surrounds math classes. By breaking down classes like algebra, calculus and geometry I can get students to understand simple concepts and then work on compounding these ideas into the "bigger picture" that each of these courses wishes to convey.

I graduated from Stony Brook University in May 2014 with a B.S. Degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics. I've had a great experience tutoring and assisting students in math. My teaching experience lies in math of any kind, ranging from Middle School Math to AB Calculus. My favorite subject to tutor would definitely be Statistics, since I have acted as a Teacher's Assistant for a statistics course and just feel very comfortable with that material. Additionally it's where my roots lie, and will always hold a little sentimental value to me. In such a position, I discovered my style of teaching, which is to teach by example; running through a problem, going over what we did in more detail, and then displaying alternate paths to reach the same answer. Outside of mathematics, I am very passionate about video games, playing a particular franchise or two on a high competitive level, and also stream tournaments on Long Island. Computer technology, creative thinking, and Soccer round up my main interest pool. I'm not the kind of character to get mad or grow impatient. I am an adjunct professor and freelance writer with a PhD in history. I write and teach a lot about women's studies, cultural history, and transnational studies with a particular emphasis on the Modern Middle East and US-Turk relations. As for teaching and outreach: Ive found that making the material pertinent and connecting it to who you are and where you want to be will make it come alive. Hence, in tutoring and teaching I enjoy teasing out the material into a story. That way we have something to entertain us as we build a timeline and craft a memory of the past, of peoples, and of communities.I'm also the author of numerous books, the most recent being Comics as History, Comics as Literature and book chapters, reference entries, book reviews, and journal articles. My busy publication career deals extensively on nationalism, womens rights, women's liberation, Turkish-US relations, transnational feminism, and travel literature. Most recently I completed two smaller pieces: Failing New Women: Anne Shirleys Legacy, The New Woman, and World War I and Importing the Ethnic: Voyeurism on Your Dinner Plate (concerning the permeation of American Chinese food). Both are due out in the ensuing year, and both were absolute fun to write. In teaching and writing I like to focus on how to engage and make the story come to life.I also publish travel literature and some fiction outside of academia and serve as co-chair of the European Association of American Studies Women's Steering Committee. This past summer I crafted travel writing while spelunking in the Iowas Women's Archives and the Oregon State University Archives, as my co-writer and I have been crafting a discursive examination of food safety, activism, and grassroots women's voices. This project Safety For Our Souls has received funding from several libraries. That being said . . . the fuel that makes this endless hard work worthwhile is engaging students and building skills in creative ways that make the mundane really feel less like work and more like an excursion into something entertaining.

I am currently looking for work as an Automotive, Aerospace, or Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Engineer. On the side, I like to pursue my passion for teaching by tutoring in Math and Science. I feel that these subjects, although daunting to some, can be firmly grasped by everyone if given the right opportunity to learn. For those who are struggling, it is my sincere desire to help you see Math and Science as fun and approachable subjects rather than challenging and overwhelming subjects. In so doing, I hope not only to improve the students results in the classroom, but to help them see how these subjects apply to the world around them and improve their understanding to a level that can be applied in every aspect of their life going forward. My outside interests include sports and music.

Education is the key to discovering the innovation of the future. History shows the great strides made in accumulating knowledge due to the work of legendary scholars and renowned civilizations. To put it simply, the limits of society can only be expanded by the level of sophistication of the people living in it. We live in an age of phenomenal growth in the sciences, mathematics, technology, arts etc. and the future of society will be dependent on how we utilize that knowledge.I attended Stuyvesant High School in New York City before earning a Bachelor's of Science in Health Sciences at Stony Brook University with a concentration in Public Health. My college career was focused on the Pre-Med track and involved many courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. In addition, I made sure to increase the variety of my course load by taking classes in Political Science and the social sciences. Since graduating from college, I have worked in a medical office and am in the process of completing my medical degree at the American University of Antigua. I am currently completing my clinical rotations and look to successfully acquire my degree next year.I have tutored officially and unofficially during my academic career. While in college, I was the tutor for my Chemistry 129 class, helping students to understand the fundamental nature of atomic bonds and interactions involved in chemical reactions. My tutoring involved leading group sessions during and after lecture as well as individual office hour appointments during the week. Learning revolved around guidance for weekly quizzes as well. My Bio 358 course covered an extensive array of topics from molecular biology, chemistry, and the social sciences and the interactions between them. Tutoring with students was accomplished by initiating and moderating discussions on online forums and well as group sessions for the concepts covered in lecture. I also was involved in tutoring fellow students for classes in an unofficial manner by leading exam review sessions as well as helping in write up of lab reports and essays. My favorite subjects to tutor are Biology, Chemistry, History, Political Science, and Mathematics. I view learning to be a lifelong pursuit and that which must be varied and broad in scope. True growth through studying many different disciplines can change the way we view the world and keep a balance of how we live in it. Its the reason I feel comfortable tutoring in these subjects because it helps me learn new things and remember the ones I've forgotten. My tutoring style focuses on devising specific plans for each student based on their knowledge level. In addition, developing a strong relationship with the student can help overcome any obstacles that are bound to occur and maintain a steady progression to fulfilling the goals of the student.I firmly believe that being a well rounded individual is the best way to approach the different obstacles and struggles in life and to constantly improve my limits. Aside from my tutoring activities, I like to involve myself in community and leadership-development activities. During my time at college and my medical school career, I have been involved in many clubs and organizations. I was also a resident assistant at Stony Brook University as well as the Vice-President/Treasurer of an anti-tobacco club on campus which were both fulfilling positions to hold. My interests also include playing sports such as basketball and football. I helped manage multiple teams for my college's intramural competitions as well as running a basketball club during my first two years of medical school.

I am a junior at Stony Brook University, majoring in Applied Math and Statistics. I tutor in practically any form of math, whether it is algebra, calculus, statistics, or standardized test prep in math. I love helping people in any way I can, and teaching math is something I thoroughly enjoy doing. I like to share my knowledge and share my passion of mathematics to others through tutoring. While everyone else may not feel the same way as I do about math, my goal is mainly to help others learn and understand mathematics at any level, and make them feel confident in their abilities to do math. Outside of my passion for math, I love to listen and make music. I am a big fan of playing and watching sports, especially basketball.
