Hello, I am Eun hwa Choi. I am a graduate of Stony Brook University. My major is mathematics. I have experience working as a tutor at Queens Borough Community College. I have experience teaching students statistics, algebra, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and calculus 1 and 2. All subjects must have a solid foundation, but especially in mathematics, unless the basics are solid, you cannot move to the next level. If you don't fully understand algebra, you can't solve more difficult problems than algebra such as trigonometric functions and calculus. We help students who want to build a solid foundation. It also assists students preparing for the ACT exam. Mathematics is a very interesting subject.

Tutoring, in my opinion, is a collaborative process between student and tutor that aims to not only relay information but also helps in building free-flowing and independent learning skills in the student. In my eight years or so of tutoring, I have seen that even a tutor can grow with the student in the process. This is because relaying information is, of course, a two way street and in that process the student learns the information that he/she wants to and the tutor finds out how best to incorporate information into the tutoring sessions.As a tutor I try to be aware, first and foremost, that different students have different learning styles and needs. For my tutoring approach, I first let students know that it is okay to make mistakes and that practice can help you improve progressively. I try to allow students express concerns they have regarding to the material presented from class and then we directly approach the lesson by having an understanding of what the student does or does not know. After the lesson, I would review the points that we learned and having a goal of students practicing material on their own. The method can be adjusted based on student's individual needs. Pursuing a Grad Degree in Biomedical Engineering following an undergrad degree in the same field, am looking to build new ways to interface technology with our humanity and society! My first experience with tutoring occurred while helping my family members in multiple math subjects. I then tutored algebra, geometry and physics at my local high school. I've been a university professor for the past five years and have been tutoring for as long as I can remember. I began tutoring informally while I was still in high school, helping friends get ready for their SATs, helping them with assignments. I realized quickly that I was suddenly helping half of my school so I decided to make some fliers, and some money, and offer my tutoring to anyone and everyone in my hometown. I believe that one of the biggest flaws in education is the lack of intimacy between teachers and their pupils. Instead of teaching students en masse, a more optimal approach is to make each lesson fit for the particular student. I am a recent graduate from Stony Brook University with a double Bachelors of Science in Biology and Anthropology. While attending Stony Brook University I specialized in ecology and biological anthropology and was an undergraduate researcher in a population genetics lab. My future goal is to obtain my PhD in human evolutionary biology (particularly population genetics). This coming fall, I will be starting a position as a laboratory assistant at the University of Michigan. My primary teaching experience has been through my undergraduate career, as I was a teacher’s assistant for an upper division biology course. Beyond my teaching assistant role, I was a resident assistant for 2 years. In this position, I guided and mentored many of my peers, be it academically or personally. My specific academic strengths are ecology, evolution, genetics, biological anthropology and archaeology. My interests in these topics were heightened when I had the opportunity to participate in a study abroad program in Kenya. I was able to extensively study and explore the ecological, archaeological and geological uniqueness of the Turkana region of Kenya. I originally began my undergraduate career as a nursing major, because I wanted a job where I could learn science as well as help people. I have also received a Master of Arts in TESOL education from New York University. I am certified in New York State to teach ESL K-12. I have spent more than 5 years teaching abroad mostly in South Korea. I instructed students of all ages and from countries such as Brazil, China, Saudi Arabia, and Russia. I tutored professionals looking to improve their business English, college students preparing for the TOEFL exam, and those looking to hone their conversational skills. My love of teaching English as a Second Language comes from growing up with a large immigrant family. I was inspired by them overcoming their language difficulties and using their English language ability with confidence. To truly be a successful tutor, especially in ESL, one must have compassion and patience. Having those qualities allows me to instill my students with confidence which in turn increases their English usage. You have to use it to improve it! In my spare time, I enjoy digging up old jazz and soul records, basketball, and being lazy with my dog.

I'm passionate about science and mathematics, and in particular its application to problems in business and science. Since completing my PhD in applied mathematics and statistics from Stony Brook University, I've been working as a data scientist / analyst in various industries such as marketing, law, staffing, streaming and entertainment, and logistics. I'm well versed in Excel, Python, R, SQL, applied Math and Statistics. During my undergrad and graduate academic career, I've had the opportunity to teach underrepresented students entering college from high school in mathematics, college level calculus courses to undergrads, and led recitations of upper-level courses for graduate students in the mathematical/computational biological sciences. While my career has largely been focused on research and applications of mathematics, I've always had a particular interest in teaching. My passion for these subjects make it easy for me to teach others and to make it fun. When I teach, I always try to make the lessons as interesting as possible, because in addition to teaching the lesson I personally and honestly want to have fun doing it. Outside of work I'm a father of 3, I love coffee and I love to play a game of chess.
