I am a graduate of The University of Texas at Dallas (whoosh) and most recently, Louisiana State University (geaux tigers). At UTD, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a focus on geriatric disorders and my Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology with a focus on feeding and swallowing disorders. At LSU, I received my Master of Arts in Communication Disorders with a concentration and thesis on feeding and swallowing disorders within the pediatric population, in particular premature babies. During my time at both LSU and UTD, I tutored in various capacities. I was a teaching assistant for a Statistics class for 5 semesters at UTD. At LSU, I tutored student athletes for 15 months in various subjects. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Math. In my experience helping students (elementary-college), Math always seems to be a subject where students have a mental block. It is always a pleasure to get through that block and break (seemingly) complex problems into their parts and then watch the student work through the problem on their own. I am a strong believer in continued learning throughout life and try to instill this drive within my students. In my spare time, I enjoy music (both playing and listening), swimming, running, cooking, and traveling.

I am a senior studying Physics and Math at the University of Texas at Dallas. I will receive a Bachelor's of Science in Physics in 2016. For years, helping people learn to approach problems and concepts in Math and Physics has been very satisfying to me. Finding the simplest way to think about an initially daunting idea or task and assisting others in recognizing the necessary reasoning process is a great experience. I tutor primarily Physics and Math, with a preference for Calculus because of the fact that the concepts of Calculus lend themselves so naturally to intuitive physical interpretations and analogies. I am also able to help with SAT preparation. My main hobbies include reading, playing strategy games, and watching basketball.

I have been currently working as a professional tutor for a little over a year but I have been tutoring for a lot longer than that. I remember tutoring my kid sister for the past couple of years in subjects such as Algebra, History, Chemistry, etc. Finally, in her senior year of high school, I still cherish the moments when she asks for my help. Over the past couple of months I have been tutoring at a place in Allen and I love every moment of it. During the course of that time I have been able to establish a great relationship with all my kids. I love seeing their smiles when they tell me they were able to ace a test in school due to my help. Tutoring and mentoring kids is honestly the best job I have ever had.I am currently a junior at the University of Texas at Dallas where I am working on a BS Health Care Administration and Biology. I hope to eventually have a job coordinating departments within a health care clinic or even a hospital. I specialize mostly in on-level or pre-AP Biology and Chemistry as well as Algebra but feel confident teaching subjects such as History and AP Biology.I hold myself to a high standard and I will hold my students to the same standards I hold myself. I will not only try to teach the concepts, I will teach critical learning skills so my students can take the knowledge they acquired and apply it to other classes as they move through their school career.

I am a sophomore at the University of Texas at Dallas. I am majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Art, in the hopes of going to medical school one day. I have had extensive experience tutoring students, ever since I was a high school student myself, in art, PSAT, math, and science. I am most passionate about teaching math and science, as the critical thinking skills developed from these subjects can be applied to multiple aspects of our lives. I always found myself being able to connect with students more via these subjects, as their puzzle-like nature seemed to appeal to students the most, especially once we discovered the teaching style that suited them. I witnessed that a tailored and unique teaching style shows remarkable improvements, both in the subject matter, as well as the students' general reception of academia. I strongly believe in the importance of education and its role as a critical tool, which enables individuals to improve the quality of their lives and develop lasting connections. In my free time, I like spending time with my family, doing art, running, and reading.

A graduate from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2013, I have a multitude of both professional and private teaching/tutoring experience and skills. The teaching certification program I completed is heavily focused on STEM education and creating well-rounded students for today's technology centered world. I firmly believe that every student has the potential for "math literacy"; with a little help, anyone can be a math-confident person. I am most comfortable teaching math subjects (from preschool to BC Calculus), but I do have some background in reading/writing tutoring. I currently work as a sous chef four nights a week, but otherwise my schedule is open. I prefer online but am willing to travel up to 20-25 miles if needed. Personal Facts and Style: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Native English Speaker and No Accent (These are important to some students) Patient and Friendly Like to explain things step by step and write a lot on the white board! ALWAYS open to questions and suggestions from students and parents Background: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I have always enjoyed teaching new concepts to people, whether formally or informally. To paraphrase an old TV series title, I would say "Have books, will travel" to describe my passion for teaching. Of course, now these "books" are often online, and we travel with laptops and tablets. But learning will always be associated with the word books, in my opinion. My experience includes all levels of mathematics, including calculus, business calculus, and multi-variable calculus. I also love teaching the fundamentals such as algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. I am very comfortable in teaching computer-based topics such as Cloud Computing concepts as well as specifics for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Tutoring Approach: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When tutoring, I first try to understand the student's specific goals and needs. Maybe it's help with HW. Maybe it's general concepts. Perhaps it's a standardized test such as AP, SAT, GRE. What does the student need and what are his/her goals? How can I help? That's my approach. I try to make sessions interactive to make the learning process interesting. This also helps reinforce student learning. For 1-1 sessions, this is relatively easy to do. For group sessions, I try to ask students if they understand, and I give them time to solve the problems that I present. Subjects of Interest to Me (not a complete list) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Science is awesome right? From the biochemical reactions inside of our cells to the extreme biological adaptations of deep-diving sperm whales to the long distance migration of some birds, nature never ceases to amaze me. I love Biology (especially Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, and Cancer Biology), Chemistry (especially Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry), and Physics (Classical and Modern). I enjoy tutoring in these subjects as stand-alone or as part of the MCAT exam. Current Endeavors ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am currently working on Machine Learning (ML), and specifically neural networks. I use Python (with the Tensor Flow and Kera packages) and Jupyter Notebooks. I also use various tools in the cloud, and I set up billing alerts and cost constraints to ensure that I stay within my prescribed budget. I am also analyzing data such as my own Apple health data (XML format). There are many tools available for data analysis. I like using Microsoft Fabric along with the Azure Cloud, as it provides a good end-to-end solution.

First, a student, second, a teacher. This mindset reminds me to take a step back and meet students where they are background knowledge, current situation, feelings about what is to be learned, dreams and goals. It's important for me to listen to understand students when I work with them. This way, I can ask better questions to help them grow in specific knowledge, as well as in life in ways that work for them. This way, my students leave sessions satisfied, fulfilled, and feel it was time well-spent. My education background is in the sciences - for the first half of my undergraduate education, I lived in New Orleans and studied Neuroscience at Tulane University. There, I took a Teaching position for an AP Calculus class at New Orleans Charter Science and Math High School my first real experience in a teacher-like role in after-school study sessions. An important question to ask students became "What do you want to get out of the class and our time together?" this way I could align my expectations of students with their goals. After Tulane, I went back home to finish my undergraduate degree at the University of Texas at Dallas. More of my teaching philosophy was developed here with positions as Teaching Assistant in Biochemistry and Supplemental Instruction Leader in Physics at the Student Success Center. Here, I started to see teaching as an art of sharing information and helping peers think in new ways about how to take-in and assimilate knowledge. I hadn't considered teaching as a career up to this point; I had always wanted to be a doctor. I took the MCAT in 2015, and interviewed for medical school in Texas. I decided on UT Southwestern. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience at UT Dallas and then went on to complete two and half years of medical school with clinical rotations at UT Southwestern Medical Center. I liked all the specialties in which I rotated, but I did not feel called to any one specialty in particular like my peers did. This is why I left medical school in 2018 to pursue a M.S. in Applied Cognition and Neuroscience at UT Dallas. Since then, I have taught with Kaplan Test Prep as an MCAT Instructor for In-Person, Kaplan Partner Solutions Institutional Partnerships, and Live Online delivery modes. At Kaplan, my teaching style has matured incorporating elements of growth mindset and learning science with spaced repetition of relevant concepts all while meeting students where they are on their journeys in education. Now, as an Honors Chemistry teacher at Coppell High School, I am able to design learning to meet individual student needs in a dual-delivery space: in-person and online education, all at the same time, via zoom. Helping students achieve their full potential is my passion, and I specialize in MCAT science. Please reach out with questions!

I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics this past December (2019) from the University of Texas at Dallas. I worked freelance as an online math tutor for students between sixth and tenth grade, starting in 2015. Math was a strong subject for me during my years in school, and seeing that math is a topic that students often struggle with, I enjoy the opportunity to use my skills to help others achieve their goals. I started tutoring in person during my senior year of high school and shifted to online tutoring sessions throughout college with students from around the state, with many coming from international families. I personally enjoy tutoring students because it's an opportunity to help them develop their skills and confidence in math and in day to day life. My philosophy on tutoring emphasises a strong belief in the importance of providing a positive and safe learning environment as an instructor. Additionally, with how different learning styles can be, I believe it is important as a tutor to be flexible in teaching style in order to meet the individual needs of each student.

I am a graduate of The University of Texas where I received my PhD in the Humanities with a focus on History and Literature. In addition to my extensive experience in the classroom, I have also raised a child with learning differences so I am keenly aware that everyone learns at their own speed and in their own way. There are no quick fixes and the student must be a party to their own success. I firmly believe that with organization, a good work ethic, and the proper learning environment, all students can do well in school. However, the most important ingredient is self-confidence, which is only achieved through accomplishing target goals. In the classroom, I concentrate on the individual needs of each of my students by helping them with organizational skills, reading, research techniques, and especially writing. This approach enables each student to not only develop their own style, but provides them with learning tools which can be applied to other areas of study.
