I teach college writing in the Philadelphia region to both native English speakers and English language learners. I love helping students of all ages to develop passion and responsibility for their studies. In addition to classroom teaching, I have tutored middle school, high school, and college students (both traditional-age students and returning adult students) through area colleges and non-profit organizations. My tutoring style comes from my understanding and experience of the learning process. In order to improve their skills, students need motivation (a sense of the rewards and excitement of learning), practice, and mentorship. For each student, these three elements come in different forms, and as a tutor, my job is to provide an "in" to the subject matter for each individual. In other words, one size does not fit all, and I tailor my approach based on students' personalities and needs. My clients and colleagues often describe me as approachable, insightful, reliable, and trustworthy. In my free time, I enjoy biking, hiking, reading, writing, watching films and travelling.

I graduated from Calvin College with a Geology/Geography/Urban Studies degree. I went on to graduate from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences and ISARA-Lyon with degrees in Agroecology and Organic Agriculture.I started tutoring in high school and did so in college as well. In graduate school I assisted students with academic papers. Most recently I have been a high school Biology and Environmental Science teacher in an urban public school.I am comfortable tutoring a variety of subjects. I am most passionate about cultivating a love for the natural world and enjoy teaching the life sciences. I believe that the love for learning is what motivates students to excel and that is what I hope to create. My experiences with diverse students and education systems adds to my differentiated teaching style. In my spare time, I enjoy writing, cooking, and being connected to nature by gardening or farming.
WelcomeI am a graduate of Calvin College. I received my Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics with a minor in Classical Greek. During my time as an undergraduate I received funding through the NSF to perform research and had my results published in a leading undergraduate journal. I am incredibly passionate about Mathematics and Philosophy, and enjoy sharing the knowledge I have acquired over the years with others. My tutoring experience ranges from high school level (Algebra I & II, Geometry, Precalculus, and Calculus) to college (Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, and Linear Algebra). I love meeting individuals on their level, analyzing their mathematical thinking, and building a deeper understanding from their foundation. Beyond my love for Mathematics, I enjoy running, practicing yoga, and reading a broad range of subjects and genres that enrich my understanding of the the world. I have travelled extensively and seek opportunities to expand my horizon geographically and interpersonally.
I have over 10 years of experience in education, most recently as an Instructor of Spanish at the University of Georgia. I have extensive experience in teaching and tutoring Spanish at the high school and college level. I also have experience tutoring ACT Test Prep, math (particularly algebra), English, and other humanities-related topics (Social Studies, etc.) at the high school level. As a current PhD student of linguistics, education is an important part of my life, and I am passionate about sharing my love of learning with others. Helping students overcome roadblocks they encounter is my favorite part about teaching. It is rewarding for me to see something 'click' in a student's mind after working together to understand a difficult concept. When I tutor a student, I take time to get to know their personality and learning preferences in order to tailor my lesson accordingly. I find that students are more receptive when they are able to interact with the material in a way that makes sense to them. As an instructor, I offer a variety of activities to digest new material so that each student feels that their learning preferences are taken into consideration.
I believe that knowing humanities and arts are just as crucial to a student's development as knowing STEM subjects. I have a BA in Literature & Writing and a decade of experience working in publishing and entertainment journalism and can use that knowledge to help your student become a better writer and reader.
Having taught full classrooms for nearly three years, I’ve found that my true niche in education is through tutoring. I’ve taught advanced ESL courses to medical doctors in Turkey in addition to teaching basic and job-focused ESL courses to refugees in Egypt, Michigan, and New York. I studied Philosophy and International Studies in undergrad while also tutoring ESL, writing, philosophy and IELTS test prep. I have an innate love of learning that I am eager to share with my students. My ESL experience has taught me how to simplify complex concepts making them accessible and providing a strong foundation on which to build greater understanding. I am a calm and caring teacher who enjoys using humor in the classroom – but who is also capable of being firm when necessary. I love working with individual students to identify their strengths, areas that need of improvement, and to create an action-plan for their success. In my free time I enjoy yoga, biking, reading, and going to comedy shows.
I love to learn and I have a heart for people.Tutoring is a new experience for me.I love working with writers/writing. I love working with people. I don't make people do the work on their own or try to take over myself. For me interaction and communication are key. I am very patient with people. I understand that some people take longer to understand things and sometimes it helps to explain a point in a different way.Outside of academia I like to read a lot. I sing all the time. I play tennis when I can. Church is important to me. I like spending time with my family.Availability: If what I have posted doesn't work for you email me and we can figure something out.
I want to learn to interact with kids of all age groups, to teach myself how to be a better communicator so I can effectively communicate myself to others when the need arises.
I am a graduate of Calvin College, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in French, Spanish and Linguistics. Upon graduating, I spent time teaching both French and English as a Second Language in Ecuador, where I had the opportunity to work with several different age groups in a university setting. Since returning to the United States, I have taught test-taking skills and strategies to students preparing for the TOEFL exam as well as English as a Second Language to immigrant learners in Brooklyn, New York.I recently graduated from Rutgers University with a Master of Arts in Literature in Spanish, where I continue to teach Spanish as I work toward completing a doctoral degree at the same institution. While I tutor French and English in addition to Spanish, Spanish is the language I'm most passionate about both because of my fascination for Latin American literature and culture as well as the fact that students are able to begin practicing the language as soon as they walk out the door and into the Spanish-speaking community. This real world application is at the heart of my teaching philosophy, and I have found that students learn best through a communicative task-based approach that frames language instruction in real world contexts through which students can relate to their own life. When teaching literature and culture to advanced students, this real world focus comes across through my enthusiasm and passion for the experience of life through another world - the world through Spanish. In addition to teaching and tutoring, I enjoy reading all kinds of literature, playing chess, organizing activities at my university, spending time with friends and riding my bike around New York.
Hello! My name is Jeremiah, and I am currently a Master's Degree student at Princeton Theological Seminary. I would love to help you learn whatever you need to learn. I graduated as an Honor's Fellow from Calvin College with a 3.86 GPA. I got a 35 composite on my ACT, and I definitely get how hard it can be to study for a standardized test when its crunch time. I've tutored many different students for over 5+ years, and after graduate school my goal is to continue teaching. I love helping people have those "Aha!" moments, so if you are need of a breakthrough, lets sit down and see what we can do together!Apart from teaching, I love playing sports. Soccer, Football, Mixed Martial Arts, Basketball, you name it! I also love playing board games, especially chess. I like reading books, playing video games, and learning new things. It's summertime, so that means I'll be enjoying the warm weather and hopefully making a few trips to the beach. I look forward to getting to know you!
Academically, my best language by far, and one I could definitely tutor a beginning or intermediate student in is German. Three years of academic study with an instructor native to German, who used immersion to help us with fluency and "thinking" in that language. It is still my most fluent language.I also have academic training in Latin. 3 years of study. It would take some review, but I could certainly help tutor a student struggling to learn or master that language. It is certainly a fantastic one to study in terms of understanding much of English, with so many cognates, understanding or working out new word meanings when they possess a recognizable Latin root, or prefix, etc.
As a passionate educator with a Master degree in Architecture from Texas A&M University, I thrive on fostering creativity and critical thinking in my students. With over 2 years of tutoring experience, I specialize in AutoCAD, Chess, and Drawing, utilizing a hands-on approach that connects theoretical concepts with practical applications. My teaching philosophy centers on creating a supportive environment where students feel empowered to explore their interests and develop their skills. I believe that learning should be engaging and personalized, and I am dedicated to helping each student achieve their academic goals. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy exploring design trends, playing chess and sports, which fuels my enthusiasm for teaching and inspires my students to think strategically. I coached girls volleyball for 10 years, 6 years at the club level. I learned that each person is different and needs different ways of teaching that connects with them. That experience has helped me with teaching young people at different levels on how to get better in their own personal way.
