I am originally a Texas native. I graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.S. in Hospital Business and a minor in French and Microbiology. During college, I worked with the athletic department as a general and subject tutor. My years of experience as a tutor, as well as my own experience as a student, have allowed me to acquire ample and diverse learning and studying techniques. I am currently pursuing a Masters in Science at Drexel University as a I work on applying to medical school. I am fluent in Spanish and French (thus enjoy tutoring both) but definitely have experience tutoring science and business courses as well.I am an avid learner and consider education an invaluable tool that everyone should be permitted to have. In college, I volunteered in an underrepresented community and continuously tried to inspire high school students to become leaders and pursue their goals. I also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and really enjoyed getting on rooftops and learning how to use power tools.
I am a student at the Texas Tech University working toward a degree in chemical engineering. After graduating from college, I plan to pursue a masters in the field of petroleum engineering. I have experience with tutoring since I was in high school; I founded a tutoring program at the Lee and Beulah Moor Home and I spent some time volunteering at this location. While I plan to tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about calculus and I particularly enjoy teaching others the basics of mathematics. I also have a lot of personal experience studying for standardized tests and I believe I have knowledge of strategies that would be helpful for any high school student preparing for the SAT/ACT. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, listening to music, playing tennis, and hiking.
I am currently in the final year of my MFA in Creative Writing program. I received a BA in English from Texas Tech in 2020 with minors in Spanish and Ethnic Studies. Writing is my biggest passion, and I have been a writing tutor across all subjects since 2018. I believe that everyone has the ability to grow in their writing and learning, and my favorite thing about tutoring is helping students build self esteem and empower themselves. When I'm not tutoring or in class, I love reading, making art, and hanging out with my cats.

I truly enjoy the mentoring and coaching aspects of my work and that is the driving reason for providing tutoring to students. I have an excellent and well rounded mix of professional experience and educational foundation which allows me to bring context and examples to topics in order to help students fully understand the concepts being learned.I initially received an undergraduate degree in Information Systems from Texas Tech University and went to work for ExxonMobil as an applications developer and project manager. During my time with ExxonMobil, I had the opportunity to work in multiple business segments and began leading international projects which led me to working on projects in Africa (Chad and Cameroon). I then received a graduate degree from The University of Texas McCombs School of Business, and transitioned to a career in finance and manufacturing with Textron Inc. I served in multiple leadership roles within Textron's various business units which included banking and lending, leading a global manufacturing finance division, and serving as a Corporate Controller and Logistics Director. For the past five years, I have started a few different businesses with the primary entity being Black Hat Consulting Inc which provides strategic consulting services for marketing, finance, real estate clients.I have been a Chartered Financial Analyst since 2010.
I am a firm believer in adaptive tutoring. Each student has an optimal learning style, and I am excellent at modifying the way I tutor to cater to the specific needs of each person. I also believe that the best learning is fun learning, and there are plenty of ways to make content exciting and, furthermore, memorable. My favorite subjects are mid-level maths like Algebra 1 & 2, Trigonometry, and Geometry. However, I am very helpful in the other areas listed and more than happy to help in any way I can. I look forward to working with as many students as possible, because learning is so much fun and beneficial to our future. Let's make the world better, one person at a time!
I believe every child is unique in how they learn, connect, and retain concepts. Differentiated and small group instruction/ one on one instruction is critical in building a lifelong learner with a passion and drive to sustain the stamina throughout their lifetime. After graduating with honors from Texas Tech with a bachelors degree early childhood education, I was reassured that working with children is exactly what I want to do.I have taught for 10 years in two exemplary schools that grew from two commendable school districts, Katy I.S.D and Humble I.S.D. I finished my college education in 2001 by earning my Ph.D. in economics from Texas Tech University. I have been a college-level economics teacher beginning in 1992 and have been teaching economics students since then. Over the years, I have learned much more about the economics discipline itself, how economists do economics. Throughout my career, I have treated all my students as adults, respecting their ideas and opinions, having learned as much from them as they have learned from me. Believing all learning is initiated from a point of knowledge, I want to know where students are in their programs, what are their strengths and weaknesses especially. I help them leverage their strengths in addressing their weaknesses. This in the end makes for a more confident student, someone who not only believes they can accomplish that which they face on their own, but one who will overcome their challenges and will accomplish their goals. This approach is what I have taken over my lifetime in regards my own learning needs and as lifetime learner. I attest this approach to life has been enjoyably fruitful.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Cell and Molecular Biology with a minor in Chemistry at Texas Tech University. Currently, I am striving towards my Master of Science in Environmental Sciences and Policy at Johns Hopkins University, and will be obtaining my degree in May of 2022. Being a student myself, I am excellent at pinpointing what each learner needs to succeed. I was a former educator at a community college focusing on biology and microbiology. This college had multiple early college high school programs in place, therefore I have taught at the high school and college level. Prior to that, I was a group tutor for honors biology (known as a supplemental instructor), in which I created review packets and held sessions for the students. More than halfway through my advanced graduate program, I feel confident in my ability to stretch my teaching skills past biology and microbiology, into environmental science as well! The foundation of my teaching philosophy is to be patient and motivational. I encourage students to take their time and we can always attempt different learning methods or routes until the student truly understands the concept. I focus on reiterating concepts, drawing images and writing helpful key words on the whiteboard, and asking the student questions throughout the lesson to ensure they are grasping the material.I would love to help you succeed!

My favorite part of tutoring is what I call the light bulb moments. These are the moments when a topic makes sense to a student, and if we were in a cartoon, a light bulb would appear over their head. And this is usually the moment when students believe that I don't have more talent in the subject that them; I simply have more practice. I graduated with my Master of Science in Analytical Chemistry from Texas Tech University in 2011, and have tutored students in chemistry and math since 2002. In addition to tutoring, I have taught both as a TA and as an adjunct professor, at the University of Washington, Texas Tech, and the University of the Incarnate Word. I have taught chemistry labs (general, analytical, and nursing chemistry), general chemistry I and II, and first semester nursing chemistry. In my free time, I enjoy reading, crafting, and walking.
