I am currently a doctoral student at the University of Southern California, and I completed earlier degrees at the Juilliard School in New York and at La Sierra University in Riverside, CA. At La Sierra as an undergrad, I received dual degrees with honors in violin and mathematics, both of which have led me to teaching opportunities. In tutoring either field, I enjoy the constant adaptation of finding an approach suited to each student that will help them achieve their goals. Both mathematics and music are often considered to be innate talents, but being able to assist students of any background in gaining proficiency is an exciting opportunity for me and a fulfilling one when it happens. Beyond mathematics, I also welcome tutoring opportunities in Chemistry and especially Physics, with it's mathematical foundation.Another field in which I feel passionately about helping others is in English writing. Prior to working for Varsity Tutors, I would often help my friends with editing personal statements. I have also been fortunate to enjoy a key role in a start-up orchestra in New York City as a grant writer. Writing is an indispensable life skill that is too often overlooked, and I feel that my background allows me to be of help in a variety of tutoring subjects involving writing, from test prep to grammar and mechanics.I was fortunate to do well enough on the PSAT to earn a full scholarship for my undergraduate studies, and I recognize the importance of the PSAT, SAT, and AP tests for other students in achieving their educational hopes and dreams with a minimum financial burden. I am happy to work with students to prepare them for the standardized tests in the areas within my expertise. When I am not occupied with school, one of my hobbies is cycling and bicycle mechanics. I've rebuilt a number of vintage steel bicycles, and would like to build a wheel soon. I also like to stay active on the side with video and audio editing projects.

I am a music and arts industry professional with over 20 years experience working in a variety of settings. It would be my pleasure to help you achieve your academic and musical goals.I come from a family of teachers, specifically music educators, but my experiences run the gamut of all kinds of teaching paradigms. I've taught in inner city programs working with at-risk youth, I've helped prepare students for entry into college, worked with differently abled students facing their own unique challenges, and everything in between. I personally enjoy the process of getting to know a student, finding out exactly what it is that they need to be successful, and then helping them shorten their learning curve. Efficiency of thought and of action is key. After all, time is the one thing in this world we can't get back.I'm always open to questions, so feel free to send them my way. If there's a way I can be helpful, don't hesitate to ask.
Hello! My name is Chihiro.I was born and raised in Japan but I moved to the U.S. when I was 16 to study music on my own. I have been living in NYC for 17 years. As a professional musician, I have played in several Broadway musicals such as Miss Saigon, West Side Story, and Cinderella.I'm excited to share my knowledge about music whether if you are just learning how to read music or trying to be better. I specialize in percussion instruments if you want to learn how to play the drums!I'm also happy to work on your Japanese study. I can practice conversation or writing/ reading.
I am a professional musician with a passion for teaching music and math. My favorite part of tutoring is getting to know students and watching them achieve more than they thought was possible. I like to take the fear out of math and try to convince everyone that math is very fun and engaging.
I graduated in May 2019 from Rice University cum laude with a degree in Music Composition. Most of my tutoring experience comes from high school where I tutored for the National Honors Society and private students. I tutored Algebra I+II, Precalculus, Calculus, and Statistics. I took a year of pre-med coursework at Rice so I have experience with college-level STEM courses as well. I took many music history classes during my music degree and feel very comfortable revising essays and writing research papers. I also have experience teaching musical instruments, so I think this carries nicely into tutoring. I am currently a graduate student at the Juilliard School in New York where I am pursuing a Masters in orchestral conducting. This degree program has provided me with people skills, working in teams, teaching experience, and great study habits for intense environments. I think this experience, although not related to the standard academic subjects, will carry with me in my tutoring for Varsity Tutors! I continue a personal hobby of studying math.
