I attended Suny Old Westbury University for my undergraduate degree. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education and General Education Grades 1-6. I then went on to complete my Bachelor of Science Degree at Touro College in ESL. Before starting a family, I taught in the New York City public school system as a Special Education teacher. I tutor all subjects at the elementary level (grades K-6) since that is where I gained most of my experience; however I can also tutor students in higher grade levels in reading and writing as well. I enjoy tutoring all subjects but would have to choose reading, writing, math, and social studies as my favorites. I love social studies because I love teaching children about the world we live in and its rich history. Math was difficult for me as a child, however now as an adult I see why I had trouble and feel I can help students who are having the same difficulties that I did.I describe my tutoring style as fun and interactive. I believe that learning in any subject can be enjoyable, even though it may be challenging. I like to use manipulatives for a hands-on approach to learning in mathematics and materials for reading and writing that children have an interest in. Outside of teaching, I love to spend time outside with my family any chance I get. I enjoy going to museums, aquariums, amusement parks, and any place that allows me to interact with animals.

I am applying for Touro College and their Graduate Program for Education because I found my calling. I want to teach the next generations about history and discuss why history is important in every aspect of the world. I have had great professors and teachers who pushed me to my limits and because of that I wrote a sixty-page thesis for my senior history class (History 425: Research Methods). My thesis, Our Thing: Traditions of the Italian Mafia, examines primary and secondary sources about the Italian Mafia. I used both autobiographies from Mafia leaders and a detailed an organized interview I conducted with a citizen of Little Italy, Manhattan who lived there for seventy-nine years. I have done thorough research into the topic of Italian Organized Crime, studying the first arrival of Italian immigrants. My other research topics include, ancient Roman warfare and the Golden Age of Piracy. I have been reading, researching and analyzing ancient Roman warfare for more than five years and the Golden Age of Piracy is my most recent topic, researching for the past six months. With the help of Professor Kavey (His 240) and Professor De Lorenzi (His 205, His 300, and His 425), from John Jay College, I can comprehend and conduct proper research from both primary and secondary sources. Both professors taught me how to analyze data for proper research and taught me how to apply it towards writing a proper research paper. I am using the tools they taught me, along with every other professor I have had, in my further research topics.I have decided to take my ambitions further than my Undergraduate and go for my Graduate degree with the hopes of becoming a history teacher. I have been watching, learning and absorbing the lessons my professors, both good and bad, gave me as a student. I had great professors at John Jay College and I learned more than just the class lessons. I will try to replicate and, if need be, adapt those lessons to my future students. With the help from Touro and their education program, I am hoping that the lessons I learned from my professors and the classes from Touro, I can become an effective teacher. As you should be able to tell, my career goal is to become a history teacher. I want to teach children and kids of any age the significance that history is trying to tell us. I want to show that by studying history, we can learn about how traditions, cultures and other behaviors have been created, changed and adapted trying to understand how they are now. My main objectives are simple; I want to become an effective teacher. I want to become a teacher that my students respect and truthfully enjoy to be in my class. In my opinion, being a teacher should be just that. Teachers should be like doctors with medicine and medical treatments where the patients are the top priority, but for teachers the students are the top priority. Education is an incredible and large factor for a child to become successful in the world, not by their salary but education increases their intelligence in all aspects of life, not only in school.

Hello! I've always believed that learning should feel supportive, inspiring, and even fun. When I was growing up, I didn't always have the guidance I needed at home, and I often wished for a teacher who could really understand me. That's why I'm so passionate about tutoringI want to be that relatable, encouraging teacher for my students, the one who helps them feel seen and capable. I've been lucky to work with students of all ages and backgrounds: adults learning English as a new language, high school students in Ecuador, and elementary and middle school students here in the U.S. I tutor English Language Arts, English as a New/Second Language, and Spanishwith a special love for ENL and Spanish, because I enjoy showing students how language works like a puzzle and watching them light up when it finally clicks. I earned my B.A. in Linguistics from Stony Brook University and my M.A. in Literacy from Touro College, and I've recently completed a program in School District Administration. But more than my degrees, what I bring to tutoring is my belief that every student learns in their own unique way. My style is personal, flexible, and creativeI take time to really get to know you, figure out what's standing in your way, and come up with fun and effective strategies to help you grow. Outside of teaching, I love Latin dance (I even perform and compete in salsa!), and I also have a nerdy side that enjoys video games, puzzles, and Legos. Traveling and trying new things are big parts of my life too. All of these interests remind me that learning doesn't just happen in classroomsit happens everywhere when you're curious and open. If you're looking for a tutor who will meet you where you are, cheer you on, and help you reach your goals in a way that feels comfortable and motivating, I'd be honored to work with you.

I have been tutoring since I was a college student. At that point, I taught high school students and helped them to excel on the SAT/ACT as well as in the various Regents exams. I graduated summa cum laude from Touro College, and now I am a graduate student working towards my PhD in history and teaching college part-time.I have had the opportunity to teach hundreds of students in a college classroom. I have really enjoyed this experience, but I have found that many smart, motivated students lack the skills they need to maintain a strong GPA in college. To address this problem, I began to focus my high school tutoring on writing and critical analysis skills, and I worked one-on-one with some of my college students. I developed a system that focuses on developing reading comprehension, organized writing, and analytical thinking. These skills enable you to succeed on standardized tests like the SAT, but also in English and humanities classes. This is also what I use to prepare students for the PSAT. Trust me, it works! Not only did I score 2220 on the SAT, but my PSAT score helped me to become a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.I care deeply about what I do, but I think what really distinguishes me from many other tutors is my flexibility and commitment to the individual. I work around my students' individual needs and learning styles so that hardworking students can achieve the academic success they deserve!

I taught second grade for two years in south Bronx, supporting my 32 students in mastering content in all subjects, including writing, math, and reading. After that, I transitioned to a network office where I now write middle school and high school English Language Arts curriculum and assessments. While I love my current work, I am not in the classroom much anymore. I miss working directly with students, and thus am very interested in tutoring. I have a particular interest in tutoring all elementary subjects, English Language Arts, and U.S. history. While there is a time and a place for "lecture," I believe students do their best thinking when they are answering thoughtful questions both verbally and in writing. Because thinking is the crux of learning, I always strive to have student voices dominating during tutoring sessions.Tutoring sessions are short, so I believe each one should be purposeful. Each session must have a goal that is clear to both me and the student. Because learning is as much about skills acquisition as it is about content knowledge--a student does not want to need a tutor forever!-- these goals should be transferable, and feedback throughout a session should drive toward helping a student achieve that goal.

I am a current osteopathic medical student with a strong passion for teaching science in a way that feels approachable and understandable. Throughout my academic journey, I have developed a deep understanding of subjects including biology, biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, immunology, and neuroscience, and I enjoy helping students build both confidence and mastery in these areas. I scored in the 99th percentile on the MCAT Biology section and have experience breaking down complex concepts into simple, memorable explanations tailored to each student's learning style. In addition to tutoring, I have worked in educational settings including academic mentoring and tutoring, where I learned the importance of patience, encouragement, and individualized teaching strategies. My approach focuses on helping students truly understand material rather than memorize facts. I work to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, developing critical thinking skills, and gaining confidence in their abilities. Whether a student needs help preparing for exams, strengthening foundational concepts, or improving study strategies, I aim to make learning engaging and less overwhelming. Beyond academics, I have also contributed to scientific research, including publication work involving peripheral peptides and neuroscience-related topics. My background in medicine and research allows me to connect scientific concepts to real-world applications and clinical relevance. I enjoy working with students at many levels, including middle school, high school, college, and pre-medical students, and I am especially passionate about helping students succeed in the sciences and achieve their long-term goals.
